  1. The rumors from many sources were that Podsednik had a bit of artificial help during his breakout season with the Brewers. Loss of production and health problems don't hurt that claim. I'd rather have Gwynn than Podsednik, and I'm not a big TGJ guy.
  2. As much as a big honkin' expensive ring says "I love you", the wife-to-be may be much more happy with something a little more modest, and some extra cash lying around when you first get married to make life not as difficult. I made the mistake of buying Nicole a large diamond (1 karat) ring. It looked great, but it really wasn't that wearable... kept getting caught on stuff and scratching stuff. Now, she wears a simple gold band, and doesn't need to take it off as much....
  3. [ actually, in baseball circles I've heard A often referred to as Rookie ball, too. I don't know why that is, though. Maybe they think of A+ as A, and low A as advanced Rookie. ] I think the casual reader may not know what "A" ball is (compared to AA and AAA)... so, putting myself in their shoes, maybe "rookie ball" is more descriptive... of course, there's no reason not to give a 5-7 word explanation.
  4. Guh, not going to be able to make it tonight...... sorry for the late notice.
  5. [ I love Griffey as a player but he clearly only has a year or two left. ] He's only got a couple of years left on his contract, so it works out OK for the Cubs. He's an enormous upgrade over Jacque Jones, so I would be somewhat concerned of they landed him. Of course, it depends on what they give up for him...
  6. Oh come on... The Stroke was MONEY.
  7. [ Jackson has no value? What were you thinking with that one, Brian? ] I meant what I said... He's AAAA.
  8. Maybe http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. I'm going to need to shut this thread down... Brewers broadcasts cannot legally be redistributed like this.
  10. In kicking off this thread, I'd like to announce that I'm transferring myself to bench coach for the remainder of the season. I know we're about having a good time, but I'm not helping the team in any capacity.... I'm looking forward to getting myself into shape for the '08 season and contributing on the diamond. I'll still be attending all games as a full-time 1B or 3B coach and helping in all pre-game drills.
  11. If the Cubs lose and the Cards win, the magic number doesn't budge. Boo.
  12. I liked the idea of getting someone good who's going to be a FA (available), and the idea of getting someone for the low minors in exchange for spare parts. Jackson = no value to the club. Gwynn = completely blocked. Gross = not necessary with Wilkerson on the bench I hesitated to throw Gross in, but I did so to go and reach down for a low-level outfield prospect... That's going to be a need for the club, I think, moreso than any other spot on the diamond. If I'm overpaying for Wilkerson, I'm open to alternatives. I just have always had a man-crush on Wilkerson, so I had my anti-Brewer goggles on. I don't forsee the injury issue being a risk for such a short term solution. Wilkerson's just a rental... I know that must feel strange http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Brewers get: Brad Wilkerson John Mayberry Rangers get: Tony Gwynn Jr Gabe Gross Zach Jackson The centerpiece of the deal for the Brewers is Brad Wilkerson, who can play any position in the outfield and can pinch hit vs. LHP and RHP about equally as well. Wilkerson's a FA after the year, so Texas obviously has incentive to move him. Gabe Gross provides hitting vs. RHP, and is young enough where the Rangers get a decent player for a few years. Tony Gwynn Jr gets some starts this year in place of Kenny Lofton, who is obviously on his last leg, and can be their man in CF beyond '07. Zach Jackson is the throw-in, since Texas needs pitching. John Mayberry is one of Texas's lesser prospects, but might be a good bench bat for the future for the Brewers... He's included to even out the deal for the Crew. Thoughts?
  14. [ We kind of need to get him signed first. I'm surprised he hasn't signed already. All I can think is he's demanding significantly over slot money. Otherwise there is no reason to have not signed as he is beginning to miss out on development time. ] Don't worry about it, he already signed for slot money. They're just working out the language of the contract.

  17. [ quit acting like everything ned does is wrong. he's a decent manager, let's see how all you arm chair manager's would do in his situation. my guess. not great ] I think some people do have it in for Yost, but there's nothing wrong with debating in-game decisions.
  18. [ Geez, what happens in an extra-inning game where we need an additional guy who can actually hit off the bench? ] Yo! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Wise to Turnbow to Cordero = decent luck.
  20. [ Is Shouse a new semi-long relief guy? When did that happen? ] He's got a rubber arm, and there were a lot of lefties.
  21. [ Oh no, Ned trusts Shouse vs. Bonds ] Would rather have had Spurling?
  22. After the first baserunner, he got Shouse up and throwing... Is he ready by the time the bases were loaded?
  23. Do we know for sure they were warmed up?
  24. [ so who can explain the difference between an uncontested steal and fielder's indifference ] Fielder's indifference is when he's not being held on.
