  1. [ even Bill James acknowledges that it exist, just cant put a number on it. ] 4
  2. [ I realize the Cubs are probably still paying for those contracts, but it irritates that other teams help them solve their roster crunch. ] Meh, he probably would have been released if they couldn't find a taker.
  3. [ I don't like the thought that he could be getting traded soon, because Melvin doesn't like the idea of trading while a pitcher's value is low. Bush's ERA is over 5 this year, so his value isn't quite Sheetslike. ] He's been pitching better of late, and unlike previous years, selling high isn't the biggest concern.
  4. There's gotta be something here we're not privy to. It's not like Bush has bad career numbers at Wrigley or something.
  5. [ He can also be great for long stretches as well though. ] A year is a loooooooooooooooong stretch.
  6. [ To be fair, he's probably prone to blowing up more than just "a few times" or "on occasion." It was just last year that he melted down for an entire half of a season, so obviously he can be bad for long stretches at a time. He can also be great for long stretches as well though. ] And the year before that he was untouchable for the entire year. Personally, I'm encouraged that he's figured out how to bounce back from bad outings this year. To me, a permanent meltdown ala 2006 doesn't seem likely.
  7. [ You guys are a lot smarter than I on some of this stuff. Is he not a 200 inning guy due to his age or is it something else? I imagine that would be something that might come with age, would that be a correct assumption. ] The general consensus is that it's in bad taste to increase pitchers' innings count by more than 25 per year.
  8. Is he a left-handed dominican?
  9. I really don't think it's a big deal, but fan site have been shut down for pickier reasons. Maybe I'll shoot an email out to FSN Wisconsin.
  10. [ Also, am I the only one who thinks it's premature to declare Yo a 3.5 ERA major league pitcher? I love what I've seen so far but I have a feeling we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves. ] He's the staff ace, russ.
  11. "Any rebroadcast, reproduction, or other use of the pictures and accounts of this game without the express written consent of Major League Baseball is prohibited." To me, the profit has no bearing on whether it's illegal or not. The above statement would seem to disallow it.
  12. When you put "Milwaukee Brewers" on your shirt, you're asking for trouble...
  13. Earl Weaver says to go with the hot hand...
  14. This is what a lot of us have been clamoring for all along... Great move!
  15. This is just one of those nights when you get shivers down your spine. The Brewers, loaded with young talent, are rolling.... Parra throws a perfect game.... Laporta signs... Villanueva and Gallardo aren't even officially in the rotation yet. All hail Jack Z.

  17. Here's the quote: The Buehrle deal must be a killer that yields dividends for years, whether it's getting loads of hot prospects from the Red Sox, a player like Corey Hart from the Brewers or promising goods from other interested teams. Jermaine Dye, too, should command a decent return. Same goes for Tadahito Iguchi, Scott Podsednik, Jose Contreras and others. Wishful thinking, dude. Apparently, he hasn't been paying attention to the player rental market over the past few years.
  18. [ Ned sometimes uses a past pitcher/batter split to give Gross or Miller a start. Tom Kelly used to do it all the time. However, it is nearly always a small sample, so it's benefit is minimal. ] Sometimes it's also based on the concept that some players hit certain TYPES of pitchers better... So while it may look like a small split vs. one particular pitcher, the sample size might grow unbeknownst to us against soft-tossers or guys with heat, regardless of throwing hand.
  19. [ What has Vargas done to deserve being pushed from the rotation? I have been trying to find the answer for this question for about 2 weeks now. Why do people want to bump Vargas - I think he has been our best pitcher. ] This is what scares me, and most others And yes, I do see that Suppan has the same WHIP, but Suppan's been the recipient of bad luck, given his normal G/F ratio success.

  21. [ Since Soria had just entered the game wouldn't he have had to at least throw a pitch to Jenkins if he had batted for Mench? ] You're right.... maybe he was saving him for the pitchers' spot, should it come up.
  22. [ I see twice where he went more than an inning. I thought I remembered more times than that, but I would trust the game logs over my memory. ] One time was to bail out Turnbow, and the other time was because Sheets went 8 1/3.
