  1. If you look at the bottom of the forum pages, i've added a search box. Pick the "p092.ezboard.com" option to search the message boards.
  2. For those of you who are using your Wii with a wifi connection, Madden will use the current weather of the city you're playing in.
  3. [ Why is it greedier to want the market value of the system rather than the system? ] If Nintendo intended to have the system retail for $300+, they would have changed the sticker price to reflect that.
  4. [ There's certainly nothing more wrong about selling your system than taking it home and keeping it. ] Al, just because it isn't illegal doesn't mean it isn't greedy.
  5. Rumors need links. Let's not just be throwing around these kinds of things without proof.
  6. [ Instead of giving Suppan a huge contract, why not just try to re-sign Tomo Ohka? He'd definitely be cheaper, and they would both probably be our No. 4 starter. ] Injury concerns.
  7. [ I don't think so. Pettitte wanted a one year deal because he doesn't know if he wants to pitch more than one more year. I'm sure if the Yankees or Astros could have, they would have eagerly given him 2 years at $24 million instead of one at $16. ] My point is simply that fewer deals equals a higher dollar per year. If we're looking at Suppan for 4 years, he's going to be at more of a discount than Pettite would be for 1 or 2.
  8. [ Brian, you don't think if Suppan goes 26-22 with a 4.20 ERA over the next two seasons, teams wouldn't line up for 2 years of him for a total of $20-22 million? ] Yeah, IF.
  9. [ Everybody who's concerned about paying this guy $10 or $11 million for 4 years listen up. Let's look at this logically. ] I think that you can pretty much throw out comparisons with players who've signed 1-year deals. In that low of a duration, the $ per year is mitigated by the lack of risk. If the Brewers had the chance to sign Pettite for a year at 16M, i'd actually suggest taking that risk. [ Are teams willing to trade for 37 year old Jon Lieber making $7 million? ] Most teams seem to only be willing to take that trade if they can dump off contract to equal that salary.
  10. [ I don't want to change the direction of this thread . However, Brian, here are the links I was referring too... ] In the first thread, it was from a new user who didn't understand. Pogokat replied with that message in the thread. It's a pretty gray area... If you had been the first to start a Suppan thread in the major league forum, it might have stuck... but since there was a lengthy one in rumors, that one is alive. A key indicator as to whether a thread should be in the rumors forum is if there's a link to an article where the Brewers are in the running for a player...
  11. [ There seems to be a lot of "rumor" type threads in the ML forum. For example the Lieber, Burrell and R. Lopez threads. How are those "rumors" different from the Suppan "rumor"? The Brewers didn't "complete" a deal with either of those guys. ] Can you post links to those threads? I just want to see what the context of them was when they started out.
  12. [ I'm not sure I understand your study... ] Mine? I took exception with the idea that strikeout pitchers break down over the season, so I showed their progression in two categories (ERA over time and IP per start over time).
  13. [ true it is a dead end but Ks usually mean high pitch counts and thus giving away to the bullpen to early and in some cases the wearing down of that pitcher faster throughout the year. ] I think the impact of K's on pitch counts are negligible. To prove this out a little, I did a mini-study involving the top 10 strikeout pitchers of 2006: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/phearinc/kpitchersovertime.jpg This shows that the distribution of innings per start and ERA is pretty much all over the board with no real trend.
  14. [ Why is everyone hooked on Ks, i would much rather have a pitcher ala Madux, Lowe and the such, I am a huge fan the the ground ball pitcher. ] There's two reasons people are obsessed with K's: 1) A K is a dead-end. There's no way the infield can screw it up, there's no way it can find a hole through the infield, and no one can beat out a throw on one (well sorta). It can't dribble down the line, and it can't leave the park. It's the only sure thing. 2) K-rates are one of the most important secondary stats. They're a much better predictor often than ERA, which can be raised and lowered by park effects, and more often, luck.
  15. He's a career 1.5 WHIP guy. I'd rather take my chances with the Grant Balfours of the world.
  16. [ It will be the Villanuevas and Gallardos and a continual flow of young starting pitching that will keep the Brewers competitive. ] It will, but it's not like the Brewers aren't allowed to trade anyone. Pitchers are the easiest commodities to trade during the year, as you don't have to plan your club around them, like you do with position players. Contenders can ALWAYS use an extra arm. So, what's the harm in signing Suppan, and pushing Villanueva to AAA to start the year? Then, the Brewers can verify Sheets is healthy, Bush's last year wasn't a fluke, and Vargas will be OK. The Brewers can cherry-pick the ideal AAA starter to push in the rotation and trade the guy who either brings the best return or the guy who the Brewers don't see as a long-term fit.
  17. Suppan would be a great fit for Miller Park. He's a very stable pitcher, and a groundball machine. I'd offer a 2 year/20M deal if he'd take it.
  18. Here it is: p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...2036.topic
  19. After the year he had last year, it would take more than Hendrickson and Mench to acquire German alone...
  20. [ It looks like Barmes may have an option left. Maybe Doug's looking for AAA insurance? That might be enough motivation to deal Brady Clark. ] Only after he got to Colorado Springs (a notoriously extreme hitters park) did he touch .300 as a professional. He had a .677 OPS in A-ball, a .760 OPS in AA, and finally a .798 OPS in AAA. He smacks of nothing special, to me. I don't know if he's even worth of spending a 40-man roster spot on.
  21. If the Brewers could flip Clark, Mench or both for Baker, I'd wet myself.
  22. [ I do think that he was more comfortable at home and I do think colorado is a hitters park, but that big of a difference - I find that hard to blame on altitude. ] It's not just altitutde... To adjust for altitude, the park is bigger than most others, making it a slap-hitter paradise. Let's look at Cirillo's 2001 Coors Field experience: Home: .362/.404/.571 &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Away: .266/.327/.383 &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Let's take a slap-hitter from this year, Jamey Carroll Home: .375/.445/.483 Away: .220/.304/.318 Certainly, it isn't just the home cooking. I'm not saying ALL Rockies players batting averages vary by .100 points, but those who rely on BA to do their job are in for a shock outside Coors Field.
  23. [ Barmes was running away with ROY honors 2 years ago before he fell and got hurt. ] Let's look at that ROY season: Home: 332/.369/.508 Away: .239/.286/.350 The only reason he was running with ROY honors is because apparently the voters don't understand park effects.
  24. [ We sign a washed up reserve for two years and six million and then have to make a trade for a young guy in case the overpaid reserve gets hurt? This is roster mismanagement at a new level. ] Since SS is the biggest skill position on the defensive spectrum, we should have 12 position players including 2 catchers and 10 shortstops. That way, if the first 9 go down, we're still good to go. The other shortstops can shift to various positions. Heck, I bet Vinny Rottino can play shortstop. Even better.
  25. [ I've seen people suggest we trade clark for a bag of balls. I'd personally rather have clint barmes. ] I dunno... what kind of balls? Clint Barmes is a detriment to anyone's roster.
