  1. While DM said very little relative to Turnbow in the interview, he said a mouthful. I will be very surprised if Derrik boards the plane to Houston.
  2. Well I didn't necessarily say that either. Let's just say I saw him as the odd man out for a reason, but that is a fairly lengthy journey from running a bum out of town. Now, Turnbow on the other hand...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. And I will copy you. I'm gonna jump on this as well. I think it will all start to come together and the Brewers will have a pretty good month.
  4. I am? You might want to look at some of the things I actually said. I simply saw Gross and Turnbow as the odd men out once Gallardo and Cameron returned, and largely because of the Sheets thing, Turnbow's disappearnace has taken longer than I thought it would. I am well aware of both the reasons and circumstances of Gross's departure, and that is precisely why I saw him gone. What was that you said yesterday about snarkiness...adding nothing to a discussion...something along thse lines?
  5. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them hold off on aything until after the game today at the earliest. I have no doubt that something will happen in the next couple days though. I have been predicting the disappearance of both Gabe Gross and Derrik Turnbow for the better part of 3 weeks now, and darn it, its gonna happen.
  6. I was thinking about this as well and who might be available for a change of scenery trade. Timlin is 100, and Sosa hasn't been good, but he hasn't really reached Turnbow status yet. Is Jamie Navarro still playing?
  7. Well, if that's true, then other than just doing him a favor and making a clean break, would there be any reason to not at least try to send him down? You just never know what could come of it once the end of July rolls around.
  8. But that being the case (which I assume it is as well), could they send him to AAA today if they wanted, or would he still have some option to refuse the assignment? I think a clean break is probably more appropriate, but one never knows about the inner workings of the mind of one Doug Melvin.
  9. Question for the rules geeks...Since we know Bush cleared waivers, is it possible Turnbow did as well, and would that be adequate to be able to send him to AAA? At this point, I think an outright release is probably called for, but is it possible they could have just been waiting for Dillon's 10 days to be up and then send Turnbow to AAA? Other than litterally letting him rot in the pen, which would obviously not help the team, it seems to me that would be the only hammer the Brewers would have in this (bad) situation.
  10. I didn't see his outing last night, so I don't really know what the pitches looked like, and I don't necessarily even think this is the case, but does anyone think its possible he tanked on purpose last night? He has made no secret if the fact he wants out, and it is clearly not going to hapopen for him here. That game was over anyway, so what better way to drive the final nail then to go out and pitch the worst you have in the time you've been here, force your manager to bring in another reliever...There's no money on the line for him...I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.
  11. That blasting provided an opportunity to get Turnbow in the game where he provided yet more evidence that it is time to part ways (hopefully Doug will see it). Derrik will be gone soon and we will be back to 12 pitchers when Dillon takes his spot.
  12. I thought Dillon was able to come back yesterday and I honestly didn't see Turnbow here anymore once that day came. Is it actually today that Dillon's 10 days are up? If so, I don't think they have any choice where Turnbow is concerned anymore.
  13. Good points. People sitting in their living rooms, or playing the game on their keyboards, also have the luxury of being able to make these calls one AB at a time, heck maybe even a couple down the line. Often times a MLB manager has to make what would appear to be a routine decision based on what has already happened, as well as what is yet to happen. He has to consider not only who is at the plate and/or in the on deck circle (which is generally as far as it goes for the average manager sitting on his couch), but also who is due up the next inning or the inning after that - for both teams. That's why many decisions debated here are in actuality often done with plenty of hindsight. Plenty of decisions that need to be made in any game are largely related to decision that were made earlier. Are some more black and white or more glaring than other? Of course. Those are the ones usually debated here. I just think its the other 99% of the things he does that will usually make a manager good or bad.
  14. Peavey and Heath Bell for Gwynn and Turnbow sounds fair.
  15. Poor control and poor velocity raises a little bit of a red flag as far as the injury is concerned. Hopefully just a bad combination of rust, and cold weather, but I will be eagerly awaiting his next start to see what happens.
  16. Sheets ended up having the potential to come up to the plate in the 5th (which he did of course), which would be a very logical reason McClung started throwing should a PH be needed/used. Had there been runners an 2nd and 3rd with 2 out instead of 1st and 2nd with 2 out, I would think Ned almost certainly would have PH for Sheets. With runners on 1st and 2nd and 2 out, playing a man down in a 1 run game, I think it is safe to conclude that he didn't want to burn both a PH and an extra pitcher for that AB. Had the inning gone a little differently, would Ned have used a PH there? We'll never know, but I would certainly think so. That's all relevant because Sheets was at a fairly reasonable 85 pitches, and had worked a 1-2-3 4th. Yet again, upon closer inspection, the situation may not be as simple as those who look for reasons to criticize Yost would like it to be.
  17. If you want to call that snarky and you feel it really detracts from the discussion, that's fine (I don't happen to agree - seems to me it was fairly innocuous), but you also continue to ignore the central question. If asking or challenging someone to provide a justification/reason/basis for their argument or position is baiting, then I guess I'm guilty as charged. It seems as if people just want to be able to criticize or blame Ned for things that may go wrong this year without having to expose themselves to the slightest possibility that they might end up being wrong.
  18. Nice try. Of course its relevant. Its extremely relevant. If you think the Brewers have a roster that is about a 70 win team, obviously a manager costing that team 3 games means nothing. If you think they are about a 90 win team, those 3 games could be very significant. So which is it? You don't have any realistic thoughts on where the Brewers might finish in terms of wins? I do give you credit for the attempt to have your cake and eat it too. This way if the Brewers fall a a game or two short of the Cubs, you can just point the finger at Ned and say I told you so. How about if they finish 6 games back, would that be because of Ned? If they finish ahead of the Cubs, would that be because of Ned?
  19. All I wanted to know. I don't pretend to know either, but I am certain everyone has an opinion on roughly how many games the Brewers should win given their talent level, and what impact the manager is likely to have on it.
  20. OK, so you've told us what statistics say...what do you say? Where will the Brewers finish with Ned Yost managing? Where would they finish with his replacement?
  21. I'm not discounting the difference... I would just like to know what people feel it is.
  22. So...barring an abnormally bad bite by the injury bug or something like that, you feel this Brewer roster should win roughly how many games this year? And the actual win total will be more like ...
