If that is not blantant and obvious use of hindsight, the word hindsight should be removed from the English language.
  2. So if the Brewers had a good manager, what would their record be right now? What about after 162 games vs. what you expect it will be under Ned? I am interested to hear the justification as well. I'd like to know exactly what people feel the actual impact is, both to this point and for the remainder of the season. Since so many of the losses are on Ned, I wonder what people feel the Brewers record would actually be. 26-0? 23-3? 19-7? Likewise for the remainder of the season. What and why?
  3. Teh question is if Sheets didn't have th is tricep thing, would Bush still be in AAA right now? I could certainly see the case for it, but I guess I have my doubts. I think Sheets' situation probably has more to do with it than anything. Likewise, it also provides some easy insurance if Parra falters, which I think all would agree is a possibility.
  4. Does anyone think Turnbow would accept a minor league assignment? Since Ned basically said in the paper today that he can really only use him when necessary, he obviously is no good to us, or himself right now. Do we think he would be willing to spend some time in AAA, or would he more likely force his release? Personally, I think he would rather go elsewhere. That being the case, I think Doug should probably grant him his wish. I have no doubt Doug and Co. don't want to just let him walk away until they have a better idea what they have in guys like Riske and Mota and Gane, etc., but Dillon is eligible today I believe, so this seems like a logical time to get back to 12 pitchers.
  5. Well in that case, I guess you can't use losses either.
  6. I've always been a Mike Cameron fan - just a player who knows how to play the game. He may not be the best hitter in the world, but I do think he is a perfect compliment to the young talent on the roster. Quite a debut, and a great night for the offense.
  7. I do feel like this is sort of opening day part II. The last month was a lot of positioning, feeling out, etc. and I feel like the Brewers are now at full strength, with the roster they envisioned (plus Stetter, minus Dillon at the moment), and now its go time. That said, I expect the Brewers to lose tonight.
  8. Yep. That's what I said. Very nice use of hindsight. What does that have to do with anything? Is Ned now expected to have the ability to peer into a crystal ball and see that Counsell is going to let 3 balls pop out of his glove? Counsell was going to start that game regardless of who sat. I supose now you are going to tell me that giving a bench player a start once in a while is something that is unique to Ned Yost. I'll ask again, what damage was done short or long-term by randomly choosing which guy would sit that game out?
  9. Every manager provides legitimate reasons for fans to criticize. The problem around here is that too many people like to critcize just about everything and really minimize those things that legitimately deserve criticism. You want to talk about empty arguments? According to many around here, mismanages the bullpen, puts the wrong play on at the wrong time, plays the wrong guys in the wrong spots, plays favorites, does nothing...really anything that someone can point to in order to pin a loss on him. Of course he does all those same things in the games they win, so I guess I'm a bit confused as well. The overwhelming majority of the time, the losses are "on Ned," yet I almost never here anyone say that a win is "on Ned." Strange. And other than providing a reason for guys like you to criticize him (which I am sure he is very concerned about), exactly what damage was done, either short- or long-term, by randomly deciding which guy would sit? (pared back long quote and combined consecutive posts --1992)
  10. Get a foot long hot dog with grilled onions in the concourse behind home plate. Excellent.
  11. So basically he's admitting that his decisions are completely random? Wow, you read something different than I did. There really isn't nearly as much to this as those who seek reasons to criticize Ned would like to believe. He decided that it was in the interest of the team to get Counsell a start in an effort to keep him somewhat sharp when called upon as a bench player. He and Doug both talk about this all the time whether it is Counsell or anybody else, and how you have to try to get them a start or two on a regular basis. He doesn't really want to sit Weeks or Hall, but knows that he has to get Counsell a start because he needs some AB's. So perhaps the guy who would sit was a random decision, but it is a rather transparent reach to conclude that his decisions are completely random. "Rickie, Bill, I need to get Counsell a start today. Either of you guys want a day off?" "Not me," said Rickie. "Not me," said Bill. "Fine, we'll draw out of a hat then," said Ned. What's the problem?
  12. So if things go well tonight and Sheets goes 6 or 7 and feels alright in the morning, does Dillon return tomorrow?
  13. Couldn't have said it better.
  14. Did you happen to notice what Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Cory Hart in particular did last season? Are we really going to start blaming the hitting coach? Didn't we just go down that road about a year and a half ago, and already his replacement is being teed up?
  15. Its not a mechanical flw in their swings, it is just a fact of them being out on front of the pitch. You're right that they aren't swinging through the ball, as once there is the realization that they are out in front, the brain/body's natural instinct is to try to slow up, and that is when the right hand comes off the bat. This is merely a function of staying back and being more patient in general at the plate. Likewise, if they swing too hard and don't make contact or miss all together, the hand will almost necessarily come off the bat as well. Again, not a question of mechanical flaw, but one of mental approach.
  16. It should be easy for you to provide a few examples then, because I haven't seen that. I have seen most people think/say that his return would make the team better, which it will. That it will help develop some consistency, which it will. I definitely have not seen anyone even infer that he is Albert Pujols. Again, since you aren't exagerrating and it has been going on for 25 games, I assume you can produce several examples.
  17. Give it a couple days. One really doesn't have much to do with the other. Bush is a SP and will remain a SP. Dillon should be back this week, but I would guess he will not be reunited with Mr. Turnbow.
  18. I am surprised. Perhaps teams just knew full well that they'd pull him back so simply didn't bother. Anyway, taht being the case, I guess thsi move makes sense. Keep him starting so he is ready and waiting when needed. Dillon is able to come back on Wednesday I believe, so I would guess Turnbow may be able to share his talents elseweher at that time.
  19. Well if he does have to clear waivers, that is obviously not going to happen. I have a hard time believing they'd watch him walk away via that route. Does this possibly buy them a few days before actually having to decide to pull him back of not? Could this be a way to make sure Sheets is alright? Could they be buyinga couple more says until they can recall Dillon? If he can just go straight to AAA, I guess this makes some sense so he can keep making regular starts - at least until the are sure about Sheets. If he is exposed though, this is a bit of a head scratcher. Truly a somewhat strange year where Doug Melvin is concerned.
  20. Is it just me, or is RickieWeeksJr a Cub fan? Seems like he's ready to hand them the WS trophy right now. Either that or it may be time for him to take a break from Chicago sports talk radio.
  21. Anyone else feel like the season kind of starts for real on Tuesday? It looks as if the standings will be pretty close among the Brewers, Cubs, and Cardinals. The Brewers should have the roster sorted out and complete with Cameron and (hopefully) Sheets' return. Braun and Fielder are starting to hit. The Brewers playing the Cubs, its almost feels as if the first month was almost an extension of Spring Training. The nice part is, the Cubs have played as well as they can play, the Brewers really haven't, and barring a really bad weekend, the two should be virtually even in the standings. I like it.
  22. I wanted to take a moment to quickly point out that both Carlos Marmol and Bob Howry continue to lead MLB with 12 appearances (15.1 IP for Marmol). Despite the short starts and all the extra inning games for the Brewers, Torres is behind both of them. Also, Kerry Wood blew another save last night.
  23. Is that something Lou said, or that you saw written somewhere or are you just drawing your own conclusion?
