  1. And your lack of reading comprehension rears its ugly head again. Who said anything about old, past their prime, Giants? Who said you needed a roster full of them. Let me spell it out for you...I would like to see a couple guys to augment the roster. Fill in some of the holes around the young studs to put a more complete team together. There are dozens of guys that could fit that description. The experience on the current team consists of Jenkins, Lee, and Damien Miller. One guy who is past his prime, and two guys who have never really accomplshed anything. Whether you realize it or not, there are a whole lot of very good players out there who could really help a team that would probably not be described as either young studs or past their prime.
  2. That's easy, because those things cannot be quantified, and therefore all you have to do is make the argument without having to provide any evidence to support it. I don't think they quit, nor do I think they didn't play hard. I think their pitcher had his head handed to him and the game was over in the 6th inning. Ben didn't give up, Ben couldn't get anybody out. Offensively, I don't think this team is suffering from a lack of effort. If anything, I think they are guilty of trying to do more than they are capable of far too often. They are guilty of mental errors as well as physical errors - especially the younger players, but a lack of effort is not something I would generally accuse this team of. Lack of experienced talent on the other hand? Lack of pitching? Those are entirely different stories.
  3. Did I say Craig Counsell? No I didn't, but nice try putting words in my mouth to make your stupid point. What is the answer, more rookies and unproven guys who have no idea how to play at this level? If you think there isn't a serious lack of quality experience and leadership on this team, you aren't paying attention.
  4. I wouldn't describe it as a lack of toughness. I actually think they are pretty tough, and I believe they showed that in Philadelphia and especially in New York. However, with the lone exception of Damien Miller that I can immediately think of, there is not a single player on the roster that has been a contributor on a major league team that has enjoyed any sort of success. Carlos Lee's White Sox teams were OK at times, but typically wilted big time against Minnesota - you know, when it counted.. These players just have no idea how to win consistently at this level, and you are exactly right when you say they have to take it pitch by pitch. If they do that, eventually they'lll figure it out, but a couple guys - leaders - who have won something should definitely be on Doug's shopping list this off season.
  5. The same reason Justin Lehr relieved him - see tomorrow's pitching probables. I think Sheets on;ly threw 96 pitches. The way the Brewers hit, this game was over at about 5-2. There is absolutely no point in using up your better bullpen guys in a game that is decided when you will need them the next few nights. That being said, I would probably use this opportunity to get Cappellan in for an inning to straighten out after yesterday.
  6. Cheer up Brewer fans. Victor Santos starts tomorrow night(in case anyone was wondering why Ned wanted to keep ben in there)!
  7. It looked to me like they did have one, fastballs early, curve balls later. Obviously it didn't work. Sheets lost it in a hurry.
  8. Yeah, but I would have left him in with the bottom of the order coming up too. By the time he didn't get them out, the damage was done. Ned is smart enough to realize that this suckfest line-up can barely get the 2 runs they have scored, let along the amount they would need to win thsi one.
  9. What are you talking about? He wasn't the one out there getting killed. Those runs came awful quick too. Not alot of time to get someone ready in the bullpen. Not sure how many pitches, but I wouldn't be opposed to sending him out for one more inning if his pitch count is reasonable. There is no point in wearing out the bullpen in game 1 of a 7 game road trip. After all, he has Victor Santos pitching in Coors Field to look forward to.
  10. Why do they always feel they have to prop these guys up in a situation like this? Sheets is getting pounded - it happens. Everyone knows he's good, you don't need to go on and on about how good he has been.
  11. Might as well keep him out there now - assuming he can eventually get somebody out. No real sense using up the bullpen down 5 runs.
  12. Yeha well, at least Sheets got a hit. Not a good pitch.
  13. Brewer are likely to go nuts on this guy next inning - if not this one, as Sheets got a hit as I was typing that.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif
  14. Well, there goes the no hitter.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Not sure I would agree that they should automatically have 3 runs, but 1 or 2 for sure.
  16. Actually looked like Bigby should have caught that thing.
  17. Hoffy, in you hopes of convincing yourself the Brewers are actually pretty good if not for Ned Yost, you overestimate the talent of the palyers you mention (even if only slightly), and you simply fail to recognize that outside the players you mention which accounts for only 1/2 the roster, the rest of the roster is basically completely devoid of talent. You also, underestimate the importance and poor performance of the pitching. The bullpen is a joke, in large part because the have had way too much work as a result of way too many 4 and 5 inning starts. Unless you plan to play every inning with only 9 position players, 4 starters and 2 guys out of the bullpen, you are going to end up with guys on the other half of the roster - the bad half in a position where the need to deliver. How on earth is that Ned Yost's fault? The other team gets a say in the matter too you know. I'd like to believe this team is more talented than they appear too, but unless you know something Doug Melvin doesn't, Ned Yost is not the problem. If he is the problem, then DM should be fired right along with with him, for not only failing to make a change but extending him for next year. If the team has talent as you argue, and if Ned is keeping them from performing to their talent level, as you also argue, then Doug Melvin has failed to meet his responsibility by failing to recognize that. With all respect due your baseball wisdom, I am going to stick with Doug on this one - for the time being anyway.
  18. I don't claim to have an answer for that, but I suspect DM does. Ahh heck, it doesn't matter. they have enough gusy that they will score some runs in the years to come. Its ultimately all about pitching anyway and that is where Doug's focus needs to be.
  19. I don't think so either, but if you are Attansio and melvin your focus has to be 100% on the success of the major league club, now and in the future. If they feel getting guys up here a couple weeks early would benefit the big league club over the next year or two, you have to do it. I don't know that it would make any difference, but if they think so, get 'em up here.
  20. At this point, calling up anybody you consider part of the future would be a good idea. There is nothing to lose at this point. You might as well get started on the future and let some of these guys go through their growing pains now. Then again, September 1st is just a couple weeks away, so maybe it makes just as much sense to wiat.
  21. Two hits! Damn that Ned Yost! Will people ever stop trying to convince themselves that the Brewers would be good if not for their manager? The serious talent shortage on this team is really starting to assert itself as the dog days set in - especially the bench and bullpen, which are both borderline pathetic. Pretty typical for the Brewers actually -- come home for a big six game homestand that will set the course for the rest of the year...0-5 so far. Sounds like the Brewers I know.
  22. Atta way to work the count guys. Nice swing on the first pitch Rickey!
  23. This board is hillarious. Just a few days ago, the complaint was that Branyan wasn't given an opportunity to hit in a major scoring opportunity. If that doesn't point out the incredible weakness of the Brewer bench, and the roster in general, I don't know what will. The Brewers have some nice players, just nowhere near enogh of them to win consistently - including the pitchers who are routinely not getting out of the 5th inning, which also takes a toll on the bullpen which Ned supposedly doesn't use properly. When you ahve starters consistently only going 4 and 5 innings, is there even a way to properly use a bullpen? I think it is funny to watch people so desperate to convince themselves that the Brewers are a decent team, that they truly try to argue that they would have appreciably more wins if Ned Yost wasn't the manager. Who are you trying to convince when you make these arguments - yourselves or the rest of us? When the Brewers have better players, they will have a better manager, whether his name is Yost or not. Is he perfect or even above average? Maybe not, but he is not the reason the Brewers aren't above .500.
  24. ***? I just come home to watch the game, only to find two dopes beating eachother up in a boxing ring. Why on earth is a Friday night game not on TV?
