  1. C- The team is doing pretty well, but I'd still feel much more comfortable with people other than Yost/Sveum leading the Brewers during a playoff chase. Doug Melvin has more or less removed most of the players Ned would normally misuse (Mench, Gwynn, Turnbow, etc.), but I will still be uneasy until that last temptation (Mota as the "8th inning guy" -- based on a handful of productive April innings) is gone. The team still seems to make a lot of mental errors, particularly on the bases, and I wouldn't exactly call them fundamentally sound. Yost still makes some strange decisions, but perhaps not as much as in previous years. I do like how Yost has sprinkled in Counsell and Kapler to spell struggling Weeks/Cameron, without overdoing it. He was also quicker to platoon Hall than he would have been with players in years' past (see: Jenkins, Geoff), and it paid off with Branyan providing a nice offensive spark. The team's overall record, and outstanding record in close games, indicates he's been pulling some of the right strings (although a lot of luck may be involved - who knows).

  3. I've also noticed that Sheets always puts his hand and glove up to his chest and leans waaay back on the mound, before he starts his wind-up. When I started doing that at my job in an attempt to emulate Ryan, I got a not-so-friendly visit from Human Resources.
  4. Sabathia will end the year with a higher OPS than Rickie Weeks.
  5. USA! USA! http://www.princeroy.org/HomerGP15.gif
  6. For those scoring at home, at one point (statistically speaking) the Brewers had a 99.4% chance of victory.
  7. The Brewers absolutely have to have more blown leads in *95%+ win probability* situations the past few years than all other teams combined.
  8. and Texas... I can't believe it happened again http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7024/graphah2.jpg
  9. Guillermo Mota is thin, and bad at baseball.
  10. 9-2 with a 3.69 ERA, on a winning team? I certainly don't think it's out of the question.
  11. Prince Fielder is fat, and bad at baseball.
  12. It's like a plague on pop radio right now (reduntant, I know). It also seems to have become the new anthem for annoying party girls.
  13. If there has ever been a worse combination of music and lyrics in the history of humans creating rhythmic sound, I'd like to know what it is.
  14. Such as? You're probably going to need to provide some pretty good, specific examples to be able to chalk up the difference in these teams records the past handful of years to "luck". Milwaukee W-L (2004-2007): 306-341 Minnesota W-L (2004-2007): 350 -298 I was referring to their 2007 division championship, in which they had neither of those players. As far as pocketbooks go, the Brewers payroll was nearly $20 million more than the D-backs in 2007.
  15. I constantly see this angle, and I vehemently disagree with it. I'm going to re-post something I stated from earlier in this thread, to illustrate, once again, that you can do much more. The Twins went from 63 wins to 85 wins in 2 years. The Tigers went from 43 wins to 95 wins in 3 years. The Rockies went from 67 wins to 90 wins in 2 years. The Diamondbacks went from 51 wins to 90 wins in 3 years. Each of these teams have made playoff apperances during these spans as well. The Brewers have not. Melvin getting the Brewers to 83 wins in 5 years (with a readily rising payroll' date=' and farm system stocked full of cheap talent) isn't as remarkable as many here want to believe. In fact, compared to what other teams have done under similar circumstances (the Rockies and D-Backs have had significantly less payroll money to work with), Melvin's improvement of the Brewers has been somewhat plodding and unimpressive. [/quote']
  16. I was actually thinking he could be had for a lot less than $5M, if the Brewers extended him an offer soon. I was hoping for more in the range of about $2M, but maybe I'm way off. With the uncertainty and bouncing around he has gone through recently, I would think he'd just be happy to have a little security. I'm not sure he's going to want to risk allowing an injury or major slump to put him in a position to be without a definite major league job again to start 2009.
  17. The Brewers suck rocks on the road, and I'm sick of it.
  18. He needs to be locked up for next year, immidiately. Even after these torrid couple of months, I still don't think it would cost much. It would pretty much be the definition of a low risk, high reward deal.
  19. Looks like Big Ben might go the distance. That's good, because I'm pretty sure that's the only way Ned gives Torres the day off with a 3 run lead.
  20. Draw a faulty and stupid conclusion from a small sample, and then find out the hard way that it doesn't work (that parts yet to come if Shouse actually starts facing decent RH with regularity). Classic Ned.
  21. If a 15-day DL stint makes you so rusty that you can't even catch balls thrown to you, one really has to wonder about the defensive skill level of the player involved. I haven't played organized baseball since highschool, but I'm pretty sure I could handle a game of catch... Regardless, as somebody pointed out earlier, what's the explanation for the awful defense he has played during the rest of his career? It's true that his errors might be down this year, but his metrics still aren't very good, and he still looks pretty awkward at times.
  22. That really sucks that Torres couldn't get a day off. He really could have used it. edit: At least he didn't have to throw many pitches. Good game by the crew. Nice to win another series!
