  1. I was just examining the production from both Counsell and Weeks for this year. Here are their stat lines for 2008: Weeks: .210/.325/.358/.683 Counsell: .258/.348/.357/.705 I was pretty surprised to see that Counsell's SLG is on par with Weeks this year. Counsell also holds a big edge in defense and situational hitting. With the high volume of hit-or-miss batters already in the lineup (Braun, Branyan, Hall, and Cameron), is it possible that Counsell might be the Brewers better option to have in the lineup at 2B for the remainder of this year? Obviously, Weeks has a lot of advantages over Counsell as well though. Speed, youth, ability - and it should be noted that he got very hot late in the season in 2007. Still, I wonder if, all things considered, the Brewers might be better off with somebody like Counsell in the lineup for the short term.
  2. I was thinking about that too, and when you consider how he was raking in AAA before he was called up, he's been completely mashing the ball for almost 3 straight months. That's a pretty long time to just write it off as a "hot streak". As others have said, he probably can't keep this up, but he could suffer a significant return to earth, and still be a very productive hitter. I hope so. He's only 32. They could probably lock him up for next year pretty cheap right now, if they wanted to (after all the bouncing around, he might be interested in some stability?). If need be, he could continue to serve as a great platoon option at 3B. At worst, he is an insurance policy like he was to start this year. I really don't see much to lose by trying to sign him for next year.
  3. It's been a week since I posted the updated hitting leader board. No surprises here. The MLB leader in OPS remains unchanged. http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3438/statskw7.jpg
  4. I can't help but wonder what the Brewers' record would be if Branyan had been on the roster the entire season. I'm thinking 64-6 (70-0 if he was a player/manager, obviously).
  5. Wild guess here... you're part of management?
  6. I think the poster makes some pretty good points. Baseball certainly isn't a "young man's game" in the same way something like football is. However, perhaps baseball will see more of a shift towards younger players dominating the game now that steroids aren't going to let old guys stay in top form for as long? It's hard to say though. Last year, the youthful Brewers collapsed down the stretch and looked worn out, where some older teams came alive in August and September. It sure does seem to defy normal logic.
  7. If this game is Exhibit A in your case against Yost, your case is pretty weak. He has a point. Of all the dopey managerial blunders, this was probably more like Exhibit Q (which is pretty telling in it's own right).
  8. I would like to take this opportunity to admit that I thought McClung was a total waste of a roster space, and wanted him DFA'd earlier in the year when we had 14 pitchers. Melvin seems to have seen something in him that his previous stats didn't show. I have been more than pleasantly surprised by him as a starter, and was (so far) wrong in thinking he was of no use to the Brewers. I hope he can keep up the solid production.
  9. I didn't really notice the lack of mention on the ejection thing. However, I was pretty taken aback when I realized the true lack of thought and insight that went into the game story from Tuesday. Not even so much as a mention about all of the questinable decisions that were made during that game - most notably beaning Tejada in front of Berkman, bringing in Tavarez during a 1-run game with a rested bullpen, and the rookie Hernan pinch-hitting in a key spot. Not even a mention. In fact, Witrado found it all to be sensible. I'm no fan of Tom Haudricourt, but he's looking pretty good compared to this clown.
  10. Seeing how I wasn't using it as a predictive tool, or indicator of Russell's true abilities, I really don't see how the "small sample" argument is at all prudent. People get way too crazy about pointing out that something's a small sample whenever possible - half the time they're not even using it in proper situations. It's gotten to the point where someone can comment that a player who went 3-for-4 had a nice game, and it's like a race between posters to point out that it's a small sample. It really needs to stop. Anyway, I simply posted that stat page because it was sweet.

  12. He's already been put on the weak-side of a platoon. I doubt he's gonna get more unhappy. Who cares anyway. You can't let the inmates (or their agents) run the asylum.
  13. The problem is, what he says is usually consistent with what he does or what he did. Which is usually bad...
  14. If Weaver didn't have those few good games during the 2006 postseason, would we even be discussing this?
  15. Nice to get out Colorado with at least 1 win. Ned deserved a loss on his managerial record for this one though.
  16. CV and Torres have really saved Ned's sorry behind today.
  17. Sweet! That usually happens TO the Brewers.
  18. Yeah. I like the move. Hopefully it's not too late. The damage has been done by the Kapler error.
  19. Haha. One would think. Kapler. Fine Defender. Blah blah blah.
  20. You do remember what happened Friday night, right? Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I think Ned will do it, because he's stubborn and wants to prove it was the right thing then, and still is now. It will probably end in disaster.
  21. Wow. Great job by Carlos. Time for Mota in the 8th???
