  1. I was just about to start a thread exactly like this. I feel like the McClung/Bush "platoon" was a more of a makeshift way to force Suppan (and his big contract) back into the rotation, than it was really about Brewers management believing that one can't pitch at home and the other can't on the road. I think it's pretty clear that right now, based purely on ability and performance, Suppan should be in long relief. However, when you add salary and past "big-game performances", Suppan is still given the benefit of the doubt. The big thing about Suppan is, he's supposed to be such a workhorse. Well, he's only on pace for 165 innings this year. McClung has averaged more innings/start than Suppan, over each of their last 8 starts. I think the best rotation the Brewers could have right now would be: Sabathia Sheets Parra Bush McClung However, with the uncertainty of the staff next year, the Brewers will almost certainly figure to need Suppan in the rotation during 2009. The probably wouldn't want to upset him by moving him to the bullpen this year.
  2. I know that a 3-run lead is fairly comfortable, but seriously, why doesn't Weeks get a defensive replacement at the end of games???
  3. Does anybody else get super annoyed just looking at Weeks? edit: Well, at least he's made up for his awful defense with his bat and his speed today. Now take him out in the bottom of this inning!
  4. Yay Hall! Now take out Weeks and put in Counsell on defense!!!
  5. It also shows what a joke it is that people talk up Rickie's "errors" being down as proof that his defense is fine. Where is Counsell in situation like these?
  6. If Durham can continue to keep his OBP far above Weeks, I'd prefer to see him get the majority of the starts.
  7. Fabio and Frank Stallone's illegitimate love child?
  8. I think Guillermo Mota really sucks.
  9. Russ, I think your findings are pretty good. The only thing I would say (and this is being picky, I know) is that by simply looking at the overall ERA against Brewer batters, one outing where they destroyed a guy (think De la Rosa) could pull the entire number way up. So, let's say that the Brewers face 4 crappy pitchers. The crush one, and perform poorly against the other 3. The overall result might look good, but the ratio isn't good, and it has actually only benefited the team for one game. Is there any way to examine (using the list of crappy pitchers you compiled), how many individual times the Brewers perform: a) above expected b) within an expected range c) below expected Something like that might be more telling for what we're looking at?
  10. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate spot, so feel free to move this. I just wanted to urge more people to come over to the LambeauLeap.net Fan Forum and join the discussion. I know not everyone on here is a football/Packer fan. But if you are, the discussion over there is pretty good - we could certainly use more participation though. This whole Favre thing is pretty huge - I'm pretty surprised more people aren't as eager to discuss it as I am. I was kind of iffy about using the new forum before, but it's simple and easy. You can use your Brewerfan.net username, and there is a drop down menu on the top here that lets you jump easily between forums. It really wouldn't be much different than just discussing things in the off-topic forum. So, have the mods approve you (takes about 2 seconds), and join the discussion! (added direct link --1992)
  11. Well, that wasn't going to happen whether Sheets was starting the game or not. So, I'll gladly take the honor and Brewer recognition that accompanies Sheets starting the all-star game (in the last year of historic Yankee stadium!).
  12. Huh? Usually the starter doesn't really go any longer than anybody else. This maybe means he pitches 2 innings instead of 1. Last year, no NL pitcher went more than 1 inning. Were you hoping he didn't make an appearance at all?
  13. Where's Branyan? I wanted a walk-off grand slam...
  14. Come on jerks! Score and salvage one from this series so I can be happy through the all-star break! GO BREWERS.
  15. Am I the only one who thinks it's a little crazy that C.C. is still pitching??? He really labored last inning, and was at 111 pitches after the 8th. At this rate, I'm worried about Sheets and Sabathia being really worn down by September. edit: Well, C.C. certainly got the job done. I'm still a little concerned though.
  16. Homer Bailey is awful. Brewers can't do squat against him. Not surprising, but I'm sure we'll hear about how their suck-itude against pitchers who normally throw beach balls is just a myth. All I know is that now we've been owned by Nelson Figueroa, Glendon Rusch, and Homer Bailey all in the first half of the season - and that's just off the top of my head. There's probably more.
  17. Rickie Weeks is a moron, and the Brewers are the worst base-running team in the league.
  18. I really don't think the average fan knows the layout of a ballpark well enough to know if their exact seat will be protected by screens, or what kind of trajectory foul balls will have toward them. If there are areas that should be considered "high danger zones" for small children, then it should be the responsibility of the stadium to create rules (or at least provide notifications) to protect their customers. I think blaming the family in this instance is crazy.
  19. As far as his answers towards the media go, I really don't care how rude he is. That's not the point, as far as I'm concerned. I think that many of the times he dodges questions or gives lame answers that don't even make sense, it's indicative of the fact that often times he doesn't have a good logical answer for things that happened, or the decisions he made. He can act like as big of a jerk as he wants in my book, but at least do so while showing there was some kind of decent rationale behind your decision making. He can smile and hand out lollipops while he tells reporters that he "used Mota because he's the 8th inning guy" or "thinks Kapler is a fine defender." I wouldn't feel any better about it.
  20. I'm not entirely sure you understand the concept of what the strawman argument is. I responded to a direct quote that you made.
  21. Thanks for filling us in on how our collective minds work, and the utter simplicity behind our reasoning. I'm glad you have been able to totally shield yourself from the thousands of posts dissecting and analyzing all aspects of Ned's managerial tenure, and very un-objectively (I know, I noticed the irony too) decide you know the "one reason" some people are grading him poorly.
  22. Well, it's finally official. Corey Hart has something, other than a long foul ball, to be remembered by.
