  1. Whoa! Just imagine if Cameron was in CF last night to finish the game!
  2. I wonder if Tubby Estrada would have even gotten close to that.
  3. Branyan makes up for his mistake. No surprise.
  4. Good lord. Branyan is a beast. I don't even care that he didn't run.
  5. Ha. Yeah, he has the cliff notes written on his forearms (when big lighty thing in outfield says 8th inning, use 8th inning pitcher), and that's why he always has to wear sleeves!
  6. Perhaps. I guess that when posters have a habit of throwing out bold "gotcha" statements, it'd be nice to see a little accountability. Whatever though, that stuff happens all the time, so point taken.
  7. That's a pretty preposterous answer. All reporters think exactly the same? You have the ability to speak as to what all of them are thinking? Please. Your new stance of "I just know", doesn't really leave much room for reason or debate. That's not true. I know it, and you know it. You blasted everybody for being uninformed and spreading "misinformation". When proof was provided that Tom admitted during chats he could skip questions and, in effect, answer whatever he wants, you tried to wriggle and back off your aggressive attack by playing a semantics game. You had the same omniscient attitude then that you are showing now, although I suppose that thread is long gone.
  8. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Now that's funny.
  9. I'm not sure why you need to point this out. Of course it's opinion. That's why I try to say things like "it seems" or "I think" a lot. You seem to believe that I'm trying to pass off all of my ideas as undeniable facts, and that's not really the case at all. Yeah, I got the part that by covering prep sports for a small newspaper, you now know all about the inner workings of every relationship between major media outlets and the teams they cover. How do you know that? Even with your "experience", you don't know anything more about what's going on in Tom's head than I do. Yes, my statements are opinions - but so are yours, even if you think that your job puts you on a higher plain. edit: By the way, aren't you the poster who came huffing and puffing about "libel" and "misinformation" when people were criticizing Tom's chats? I believe that there was a thread involving TH and how he would continutally answer repeat questions about Yost, and just complain about it the whole time. When posters suggested that he could just skip the questions and find other ones (instead of wasting the whole chat griping about repeat questions and how everybody was being unfair to Ned), you came in, guns-a-blazin', and stated matter-of-factly that none of us know what we're talking about - Tom could not just skip chat questions. You were proven completely wrong on that fact then, so maybe you don't know as much as you think?
  10. Injuries have changed who the "8th inning guy" is. The fact that he always has a hard-and-fast "8th inning guy" still remains.
  11. Libelous? Seems a bit overdramatic for a theory stated on a message board. Tom's job is totally reliant on the accessibility he has to Melvin and Yost. If they decide to start declining interviews, not returning phone calls, giving him less quotes, not letting him be one of the first to know things, etc., it would be a blow to his ability to write articles. And if you don't think that accessibility to this type of information is often times contingent on what reporters are writing/saying about them, then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't think it's silly at all. It sure seems like he has been tip-toeing around directly criticizing Ned for 5+ years now. It appears as though he takes it personally when fans attack Ned. This isn't really surprising, as people can develop loyalty towards each other when they spend lots of time together. I know he probably tries to remain objective, but he's human. He also seems to buy into whatever Ned says to him, and I think that stems from doubts in his own ability (and the ability of fans) to understand baseball more than Yost. He gobbles up the anecdotes and cliches Ned spoonfeeds him, and seems to trust that Ned knows "the game", just because he is aggressive and arrogant with his opinions, and he demands that nobody else understands if they weren't a crappy backup catcher in the 80's.
  12. I'll certainly agree with you on that point. It's so sad to see other sports (namely football), in which coaches are always trying to find out new and better ways to do things. The old-fashioned ideas get tossed by the wayside and the game is constantly moving forward. Coaches are always trying to outsmart one another with new and revolutionary ideas. If coaches don't adapt, they fail. In baseball, it seems to be quite the opposite. Still, it wouldn't take that much fortitude to choose not use your "8th inning pitcher" just once during the 8th inning.
  13. It's bigger than this one instance though. Don't you find his reasoning for doing things borderline absurd, and something to be concerned about? I mean, if it was a 4-run lead, he would have left the guy who was cruising along pitch another inning. But if it's a "save" or "hold" situation, he feels that he MUST go according to his script, with no flexibility to deviate from the plan. I guess having a manager with ZERO ability or willingness for any type of critical thinking scares me for anytime the Brewers are involved in a close game.
  14. And other people with similar jobs (like Adam McCalvy) are able to write good, insightful articles - so I don't see why Tom Haudricourt can't. (pared back nested quote --1992)
  15. I think there's a lot more to it than that. For one thing, many people feel TH doesn't really do a very good or thorough job reporting on the Brewers period, bias or not. The bigger issues though, are that Tom has a close working relationship to Ned, and that Ned and the Brewers can somewhat control access and the flow of information that Tom receives. Both of those things can be monumental in creating a bias. Many people wouldn't want to publicly write negative stuff about somebody they have to spend time with everyday. I think Tom is genuinely intimidated by Ned, and is afraid of losing whatever kind of "insider information" he thinks he's getting. We all saw the scolding/tantrum Ned put forward after the Badger Blogger story. That is going to have a huge effect on how hard TH is on Yost in his articles.
  16. Since when is the 8th inning a save situation anyway? I'm sure he meant "hold" situation, but still. The fact that he has removed any managerial flexibility now for the 8th and 9th innings is just plain silly. He may as well just leave a "rules for managing" manual in the dugout and go take a nap in the clubhouse. He's useless.
  17. It's true that this poster has definitely demonstrated an affinity for TH in the past. We all have biases though. My bias against Tom and Ned is probably as strong or stronger than anyone who supports them. I admit it though
  18. It's really sad that this is the highest degree of critical thinking our Major League Baseball manager can muster up. It's pathetic. He's pathetic, Doug Melvin's pathetic for keeping around such a simpleton for so long, and Tom Haudricourt is a pathetic reporter. It shouldn't have taken 5 1/2 years to start writing articles about how Ned manages like a robot. It's been obvious to everyone else for years. Besides, the only reason TH suddenly has the balls to criticize Yost is that Yost has most likely stop giving Tom anything worthwhile to write about since the "Badger Blogger" incident.
  19. Why are you in the vent thread after a tough loss in which Ned made questionable moves? If you don't want to read venting, you should probably find a different thread. Honestly, some of the Yost supporters around here are true gluttons for punishment. It's as if you seek out negative posts about him so you can whine about it.
  20. Blowing it on the road. What a surprise. For whatever reason, this loss made me really angry - more than any other loss this season. It's crap like this the prevents them from ever being to put together a season-changing winning streak. I'm soooooooo tired of watching them SUCK and screw up games they should have won, just because it's not at Miller Park. It's been a staple of Ned's tenure. Show promise at home, piss it all away when they go back on the road. How long do we have to watch these same trends before this dolt gets his walking papers???
  21. Branyan has single-handedly saved the Brewers season, and that's a fact. Branyan since joining the club: .321 / .441 / .821 / 1.263 OPS Pre-Branyan record: 23-26 w/ Branyan record: 9-2 He is a god amongst insects... http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1604/incrediblebranyanzc2.jpg
  22. Somebody should really go through that entire thread, and just replace all occurrences of Bill Hall (name or picture) with..... well, I think it's pretty obvious who the only Brewer deserving of that kind of worship really is.
  23. I've been thinking the same thing about Hardy lately...
