  1. Well, looks like the Brewers have a new #2 starter now --- Seth McClung. Wasn't sure if I should put that in the vent thread or here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Seriously though, impressive job by McClung tonight.
  2. I'm getting nervous with this 3-run lead. If only we had a "veteran closer" to put into this game...
  3. The man was an enemy of Mike Matheny. Totally unforgivable.
  4. 2-day totals: 22 hits + 7 BB = 5 runs Disgusting and pathetic.
  5. Bushy pitched great tonight. He just made a few bad pitches, which I'm sure he wishes he could have back. And does the bad luck ever end for him? I mean, if a few of those crushed pitches luckily landed in a defender's glove rather than over the wall in centerfield, I really think the outcome could have been a lot different for him. And look at his peripherals! I'm pretty sure he's actually right on the cusp of being a solid #3 starter, instead of being a pathetic waste of roster space. His luck, and the Brewers luck just needs to change. Any day now...
  6. 14 hits + 5 BB = 4 runs??? This crap is getting real old.
  7. The Twins went from 63 wins to 85 wins in 2 years. The Tigers went from 43 wins to 95 wins in 3 years. The Rockies went from 67 wins to 90 wins in 2 years. The Diamondbacks went from 51 wins to 90 wins in 3 years. Each of these teams have made playoff apperances during these spans as well. The Brewers have not. Melvin getting the Brewers to 83 wins in 5 years (with a readily rising payroll, and farm system stocked full of cheap talent) isn't as remarkable as many here want to believe. In fact, compared to what other teams have done under similar circumstances (the Rockies and D-Backs have had significantly less payroll money to work with), Melvin's improvement of the Brewers has been somewhat plodding and unimpressive.
  8. Dana Eveland just pitched a complete game, giving up 1 run. He has looked pretty solid so far this year. If he even turns out to be a decent bottom-of-the-rotation pitcher for any lengthy period, the Arizona deal is just going to keep looking worse and worse. Seth McClung is going to make a start. Seth McClung! All three of the turds we got in the Eveland deal are already gone, and the memories of Tubby, with his .296 OBP and painted fingers, behind the plate will most likely be a painful memory that none of us can soon forget.
  9. That's kind of what I was thinking. Could anybody find the OPS numbers of AL vs NL DH's, and AL vs NL pitchers? I bet the NL has a slight advantage with their pitcher, but the AL has a much larger advantage with their DH.
  10. That technicality got resolved pretty quickly.
  11. Exactly. What kind of thinking is that? They're basically saying they're okay with playing at a disadvantage, if it's "only" for 3 games? The way this team is playing, they should be pulling out all the stops in order to try and gain some advantages in any and every game.
  12. Nothing was really preventing the Brewers from bringing up a slugger to fill the DH role. They CHOSE to use Tiny Gwyyn Jr. and his wet noodle in the DH spot.
  13. ^ ^ ^ Do we have some winners??? ^ ^ ^ Seriously, what do the Brewers have to lose? They are alone in last place. There really isn't much further to sink, is there? Are people afraid of being more in last place?
  14. Exactly. Negativity by itself isn't a problem. It's the post quality frequently accompanies the negativity. DougJones43, you pointed out a perfect example of someone not backing up a point while using condescension in reply #90. Fair enough. I thought the poster was saying people were just complaining about Melvin for the sake of complaining, without any validity to back it up, which I don't think is the case. I agree that the condescension can really hinder good discussion. Although, I wouldn't consider it "vent thread" material, just bad etiquette in general. I don't like condescension like that anywhere, especially the vent thread (which happens to be my favorite place right now! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ) Point taken though.
  15. Last Place!!! "Celebrate good times, come on..." http://constitutionclub.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/champagne-4.jpg
  16. Saying things without any basis or facts that support the argument make it read as a vent post. I guess I haven't really noticed much of that going on. Care to provide some examples, so that we know exactly what you are referring to?
  17. How so? Just because there are negative outlooks/reactions to some aspects of Melvin's tenure? I guess I really wouldn't see point of debating any issues if only positive thoughts are allowed outside the vent thread.
  18. Will this team ever even be competitive on the road? No more. Mercy.
  19. That's kind of the point. Melvin acquired him, and set up the roster as such that Estrada was the team's starting catcher. I'm sure he could have chosen a number of different routes to go during the offseason, but he went after Estrada, who is terrible. So it was Melvin's choice, and Melvin's predicament. You can't just excuse him for the fact that Estrada was the best option, when he was the one who set it up that way.
  20. Here is the overall Win Probability Added of each of those 3 players during the 2007 season: Estrada: -1.66 Vargas: -1.32 Aquino: -1.41 Total: -4.39 Basically, this means that their mere presence on the roster equated to about 4.5 losses, as opposed to if they just weren't there at all. Simply acquiring a handful of detremental players and sticking them on the major league roster, in and of itself, isn't exactly an accomplishment. And Dana Eveland is having a fine season with the A's, a team that has actually had some success during the past 5 years. Although I might be biased, with him being my boyfriend and all. Condescension like that hardly seems necessary. I never claimed Gabe Gross was a superstar, or even a starter. But I think his ability to draw walks would be valuable to the team, and I'd much rather have him as a 4th outfielder than Kapler or Gwynn.
  21. This is Melvin's sixth year. There was talent in the farm system when he arrived, so it isn't exactly like he had to start with a bare cupboard like Dean Taylor did. The Detroit Tigers were a laughing stock in 2003 (43 wins), and they managed to get to the World Series within 3 years. The Diamondbacks won 51 games in 2004, and made the playoffs with 90 wins in 2007. The Rockies won 67 games in 2005, and made the World Series in 2007 with a 90-win season. These were all teams that relied on young talent, and filled in the gaps with veterans. They made it work in considerably less time. Both the Diamondbacks and Rockies had smaller payrolls than the Brewers last season. How come all these other teams have been able to make quick progress (2-3 year turnarounds), but we're supposed to be thankful that Melvin got us 83 wins after 5 years? So? Since when does a guy get credit just for "attempting" to do something?
  22. Can I vote again? No.
  23. More than the call, it was the execution. It was another perfect example of the ineptitude of the entire coaching staff. That kind of stuff happens far too often. When mistakes like that are being made, execution regularly isn't "tight", and the team often seems lost in space, who else can you hold accountable but the coaches? Seriously, you just don't see other teams messing up suicide squeeze signs late in games, and running themselves right out of a big inning. It just doesn't happen.
  24. Free Gamel! Isn't there big-time concerns about his defense though? Similar to Braun at 3B?
