  1. As for the "Cubs in the rearview", it's beginning to look like we need to put the ol' "objects are closer than they appear" disclaimer on said mirror. Yikes. No kidding. A 4.5 game lead isn't very comforting at this point. I'll admit I'm starting to get a bit worried, especially with the injury to Hall today. I think the Brewers' rotation is under-acheiving, and the Cubs' rotation is over-acheiving. Hopefully, that will straighten out and help us hold off the Cubs.
  2. Well, I don't care what should or shouldn't happen based on probabilities while I'm in the vent thread. I come to the vent thread to act like a greedy child. I want to win some low scoring games. Lots of 'em, in fact...
  3. That suggests the Brewers "should" have a record of 2-15 or 3-13 in games they score less than 3 runs. 2 or 3 extra wins would look pretty good to me right now.
  4. The Brewers are 0-17 in games when they score less than 3 runs. Our starting pitching needs to step up and find a way to win some low scoring games.
  5. As "worthless" as Gross has been, his OPS is still higher than Gwynn's. So if Gross is horrible, what does that make Gwynn?
  6. It's not who you play or where you play, it's when you play them. Seems to me that it is about where you play. I can't find the MLB average home/road splits, but I know that it consistently favors the home team by a pretty decent margin. I don't think that's a coincidence. By the way, if anybody could find and post what the historical average home/road record splits are, it'd be appreciated.
  7. Yes Carlos has been stellar in relief but starting pitching is key. Bingo. Couldn't agree more. Also, Gallardo will probably fill in nicely for the role Villanueva has been occupying.
  8. It seems like every stadium other than Miller Park is a house of horrors for the Brewers.
  9. I would guarantee that he won't be in the rotation in the playoffs. Well, yeah. Most #5 starters rarely (if ever) get many starts in the playoffs. If he isn't replaced by the end of July, I think it will be a mistake that could cost us some regular season victories.
  10. If its working why change it? The reason it was working has very little to do with him, unless you think he is somehow responsible for the Brewers offense getting lots of runs when he pitches. And it doesn't seem to be working today, which was the inevitable conclusion to all of this. His run support wasn't going to stay at 9 runs/game or whatever, and today's game is the typical result to expect when this happens. I'd much rather keep Bush in the rotation than Vargas. When all other factors even out, Bush will give us the best chance to win games in the long-run.
  11. the Brewers are still in first place and there's nothing to worry about. Don't you worry about the Cubs, Brett? Even a little?.. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Claudio Vargas had a pretty nice start to the season, with a good W-L record, and an ERA under 4 through April and May. It can certainly be argued that he encountered a lot of luck to produce the low ERA. In June, Vargas had a 5.24 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and gave up 7 HR during the month. All of this added up to...3 Wins and 0 losses! Now, if the Brewers offense doesn't score about 9 runs/game when he was pitching, he could have easily been 0-3 instead of 3-0. If that was the case, I imagine there is a decent chance he's a candidate to have already been removed from the rotation by this point. His high win totals and early season luck have earned him a longer leash then he deserves. He's just not a very good pitcher. He was never very good with Arizona, and it's disappointing to see both Villanueva and Gallardo in the bullpen, while this guy continues to start. It's going to be very disappointing if Villanueva ends up with his projected 112 IP this season, because we kept Vargas in the rotation due to good luck and great run support. This would greatly hinder the ability for Villanueva to move into a full-time starting role next year. While it's nice to have a few extra wins in our back pocket, I think we would have won most of Vargas' games no matter who started them. I think his "success" could hurt the team longterm if management doesn't figure out soon that he needs to be replaced, and we have better options.
  13. Jeez. Get him out of there. Seriously, what is it going to take for the people pulling the strings to realize that he just plain sucks?
  14. Vargas sucks. Move him to the pen already and let Villanueva into the rotation. We need to get Villy more innings than he's getting right now anyway. The only reason Vargas still has a spot in the rotation is because the offense scores a ton of runs for him. That's not a good reason to keep a guy in the rotation, and it's going to catch up with him sooner or later in the W-L column.
  15. I could have swore there was a reason that the Brewers stopped batting Estrada 5th....oh yeah, I remember now.
  16. I think the recovery process for this surgery takes about a year. If things work out that way, hopefully Rickie heats up for the stretch run and the playoffs. I hope so. I don't see him being able to get into a groove this year, if he needs to be indefinitely removed from the lineup every 2-3 weeks to rest his wrist. He still has tons of potential, that's easy to see. Like I said, I hope things come together for him. He's still only 24, so there's lots and lots of time for him.
  17. considering I don't really get hung up about expectations to begin with. You're always posting projections and the like, and regularly using them as a predictive tool just like many other posters do here. So I don't see how you can claim expectations don't factor into your evaluation of a player. Weeks hasn't really gotten any better with the bat since the day he entered the league. After 2+ years, that's disappointing. I know a lot of that is due to injury, but that's part of the disappointment. The wrist thing is beginning to look like it could be a long-term issue. He looks terrible right now. I hope he gets healthy and gets it together. To this point, his nearly 1,000 major league at-bats have not been up to par with what his minor league statistics projected. He's been a middle-of-the-pack offensive 2B.
  18. Personally, I would have spent all day in the vent thread, if it hadn't been for all of the self-appointed therapists on this board who point out that it's a long season and teams lose games. I actually wasn't aware of it until it got pointed out a million times during every loss. See, it wasn't just that I would be mad or disappointed we lost. Nope, that couldn't be it. It went so much deeper. I thought the sky was falling. I was jumping ship. Now, losing 2 of 3 to the Cubs doesn't bother me at all. Thanks to all involved, for saving me from myself.
  19. ESPN is reporting that Hargrove lost his passion for the game. Most likely just cover-up of something more going on, but HERE is the link to the story.
  20. Man. If the Brewers are only able to win 1 game in this series, I'm going to be pretty disappointed.
  21. 3-1, 3.51 ERA, .646 OPS against looks pretty good to me in June for Bush. That's exactly what I said. Pretty good. Not great. He had 2 quality starts, and 2 non-quality starts. He didn't strike out a lot of batters, and his WHIP was about average.
  22. By the way, Rickie Weeks close to falling into the .220's BA wise Yeah. His progress is so far behind the other prospects, it's not even funny. And he was one of the first ones to get called up. He had a 2 year head start on Braun, and Braun is already light-years ahead of Weeks as a hitter. Weeks has been a huge disappointment in my eyes. He's fine for the 8-spot in the lineup though. He'll take a walk, and has some pop. Hopefully, he can pull it all together at some point, but it's looking more and more like he might end up being an .775 OPS 2B, which isn't terrible, but it's certainly not what we'd hoped for or expected from him.
  23. 1 bad inning after a great June? His June was pretty good, but I don't know that I'd call it great. Maybe it was great in comparison to the rest of his season.
  24. It seems like their rebuilding plan encounters a lot more setbacks than Milwaukee's plan did. A lot of their 'cornerstones' didn't work according to plan. Aramis Ramirez is somebody that could have been a cornerstone of their offense. Instead, they chose to trade him at the ripe old age of 25, because he was having a down year and they didn't want to pay him the $6M they owed him the following year. That's not a setback, that's just being cheap and stupid. I'll admit that they've had some issues with prospects not panning out, but probably not any more or less than other teams. Their inability to find a way to work around that is nobody's fault but their own. Like you said though, their craptitude is beneficial for the Brewers, so I'm okay with it. If I was a Pirates fan, or a resident of Pittsburgh, I'd be pretty unhappy and not very sympathetic to their excuses.
