  1. I still want to save Yo for tomorrow. Like you said, let Suppan/Spurling/Capellan ride this one out.
  2. On the radio broadcast Powell said Villanueva isn't available today, so someone else would have to do long relief Well then, screw it. He's already given up 5 runs. Just leave Suppan out there to throw 115 pitches, and save our bullpen for a game when we might actually need it.
  3. Although, he later said, "Why break Gallardo into a spot that Villanueva is already broken into?" Yost said. Whoa, that almost sounds like...common sense?
  4. Come on, Soup Can. We better not have to use Gallardo out of the bullpen because of this crap.
  5. Hart played most of the time until he got hurt Actually, he only got 54 at-bats in April. From April 20th to May 1st, he only started 4 of 11 games. Was he hurt then too? It would take quite a conspiracy theory to think Corey was not banged up for much of that month I don't doubt that he was banged up. But if he was well enough to play as much as he did, he should have been starting the whole time. Look at his gamelog, specifically from May 6th to May 27th. That was the time in which he was supposedly too injured to start. He was completely out of commision for 4 games. Then, he started 3 out of 4 games. Then he was too hurt to start again, which just so happened to coincide with Gwynn starting 7 out of 10 games during his "hot" streak. All the while, Hart was being played sporadically. Is that really a good approach to handling an injured player? I don't think there is a conspiracy. I think the whole thing was handled poorly. I think if Hart was healthy enough to play, he should have been starting, and if not, he should have been placed on the DL so he could properly recover. I think Hart's been mistreated and mishandled dating back to last year, and his sore wrist served as a good reason for Yost to start Gwynn a bunch, which he wanted to do anyway.
  6. Hart wasnt' playing because he was hurt Was he? Why didn't he go on the DL then? Why was he still being used to the tune of 50 sporadic at-bats during the month of May? That doesn't seem like a good way to handle an injured player. I know his wrist was sore, but if it was bad enough to keep him from starting for a full month, he should have been put on the DL. Either you're hurt or you're not. It sure seemed like Ned really just wanted to get Gwynn in there some more to ride his "hot" bat. Then, when Gwynn expectedly stunk, and the Brewers offense went down the toilet, Hart was suddenly recovered and well enough to start playing everyday again? Come on...
  7. Most specifically during the cold streak many wanted him fired NOW just because they were losing a lot First, I don't think people wanted him fired because of the losing streak. I would view the losing streak as more of an icing on the cake sort of thing. Second, what I really don't like is the broad-stroke that is always being used to paint anybody, who thinks Yost is a below average manager, as a short-tempered fool. I'm one of his biggest critics, but if you go back and read the thread, I said a decision shouldn't be made on him until after the season.
  8. Of course one could also argue that both Estrada and Hall started having success again after being dropped in the order some.... Or what about the fact that Corey Hart is finally playing everyday, after getting stuck on the bench for a month behind the likes of Mench and TGJ, while the offense struggled? Now that Hart is in the lineup consistently (which should have been the case all along), he has the 4th highest OPS and best OBP on the Brewers. You really think that kind of stuff doesn't make a difference?
  9. Mets are now 4-12 in their last 16 games, do you think people are asking to fire Randolph? The people who don't think Yost is a good manager didn't base that opinion off 16 games, so stop implying that. I know you want to try and paint all people who don't care for the manager as some kind of irrational, angry mob armed with pitchforks, but little jabs like this are and misleading and unnecessary.
  10. Thanks for the heads up. I love watching this kind of stuff happen to the Cubs. This is awesome!! The Cubs have NO CLASS,
  11. Good to see Billy Hall hitting the ball hard once again.
  12. Bill was just talking about that Bonds has been really struggling this year. .281 BA 13 HR .489 OBP .569 SLG If that is stuggling, what do you call what Mench is doing this year?
  13. He is doing the same thing he did all year long Many people questioned and were critical of some of Yost's decisions, even while the Brewers were winning. Those people were repeatedly told to keep quiet, stop complaining and just be satisfied that the Brewers were playing decent baseball for once. Questioning anything the team did, or voicing concern over potentially problematic issues was crazy and inappropriate while they were winning for a month.
  14. ...if he blows another save, or even two, people who have the luxury of hindsight, which is always 20/20, will say we should have let him setup a game before returning to the closers role. What? Your making up pretend scenarios and stuff that people would say is supposed to prove what exactly? So attention to all the lazy-boy managers out there. How about you make some tough managorial calls before the results. Lots of people do. Check out some of the in-game threads. Other times, people offer statistical or logical evidence as to why they think something didn't make sense. Most of the time, people don't simply point to the end result as the reason why something was a good or bad decision.
  15. When he starts to make bad moves. It's time that the quality of his moves be judged on how many victories they produce. Its not what you want to hear but you still do need to have patience. Yep, that's actually true. I'm sick of being told I need to sit patiently. It's been long enough. Other teams have been rebuilt into winners in less than the amount of time Melvin has had, against better competition and with similar payrolls. We have a lineup most nights that includes five hitters who have not even seen two full years worth of PA's in the majors yet Yeah, but those guys aren't really the problem. Prince, Hardy, Braun, and Hart have really been the only reason we have been as successful as we have. Prince is having an MVP season. It's the other hacks Melvin has assembled around them that have been causing us to lose. This is not a team that is going to play .500 ball against good teams And you seriously aren't bothered by that?
  16. Just a friendly reminder that we are in first place by a very respectable margin. I've acknowledged that many times. I was responding to a post that stated the Brewers aren't actually very good or talented, and shouldn't really be expected to get more than a second place finish in a bad division, with a win total in the low 80's. Other teams have put together very good ballclubs in less time with less money. Therefore, I personally don't find the above-mentioned results acceptable (particularly after a 24-10 start), and was saying somebody needs to be held accountable if those are the results, rather than just writing it off as "it is what it is."
  17. I don't think this team has the talent to consider the season a failure if we don't reach the playoffs though, even in a bad division Well, then at what point does Doug Melvin start getting looked at? He's had time to build the team to his liking, and has been given a decent sized payroll. Other teams have and are finding ways to win with even smaller payrolls and less fan support. Honestly, if we don't start succeeding soon, somebody has to be held accountable, because all of the excuses have run out. I don't care much for the "we're not that good or talented, and that's just kind of the way it is" attitude. If the guys we have had running the show for a number of years just can't find a way to get the job done, bring in somebody else.
  18. Against a pitcher that would have made every team in the league look atrocious and laughable tonight. Right, I forgot. It's just our bad luck again tonight. Out of his 45 career starts, this was the only time he had his "best" stuff. It has nothing to do with us, really. He deserves credit. He did have great stuff. But I don't buy that any and every team would have come in to Detroit tonight and got dominated like this, much less no-hit. Some teams can actually rise to the occasion, and put together a decent offensive night against a good pitcher or a pitcher who has his best stuff working. Although I can see why Brewer fans might think such a feat is impossible.
  19. Or the other 95% of the games when his bullpen moves were the right ones and we won the game? First of all, you can't just arbitrarily make up numbers like 95%. Second, he hasn't won very many games. But if you want to give him "credit" for his career mark of 59 games under .500, then by all means...
  20. Does he get no credit for the 24-10 start? Well, I just said this: He just gets the blame for the last few weeks, because his lineups aren't good? What did Yost stop doing as soon as we went to New York? Like I said, there is so much more to it than that. You can't just look at it on a game-to-game basis. Between Yost and Melvin, they are completely in charge of everything baseball-related that goes on in the organization. The one thing they don't have control over is injuries, which is why they got a mulligan last year. There haven't been injury issues this year. In fact, our relative health should be considered an advantage we have over other teams. Yost and Melvin need to be held accountable if we don't finish the season with a good record. It's not to that point yet, but things don't look very good. Give it til the end of the year, and judge them then. But if you don't look to the GM and manager for accountability, then who?
  21. But... that's pretty much exactly what happened. Not really. They whiffed 12 times. Most of the at-bats were atrocious and laughable.
  22. He gives the players their role and puts them in positions to succeed. Like when he uses Brian Shouse against right-handed hitters? Or bats Estrada 5th? Or plays CF defensive-whiz Tony Gwynn Jr. in RF? Or played Jenkins against LHP all year last year before outright benching him and then playing him against LHP again? How about when he batted Kevin Mench in the cleanup spot? Or when he kept trotting Turnbow into save situations last year when Turnbow couldn't even throw a strike?
