  1. At this point I hope Ortiz gets hot so the people convinced they're the only ones who realize how bad his bat is can eat it.
  2. Yeah, none of that is actually responsive to your assertion that his hits came when games were decided. No one said Ortiz is a great offensive player. Scroll up and read instead of creating straw man arguments. Bye.
  3. Especially when they follow it up by giving up hits. Although to be fair, Mears got squeezed on the first of those walks.
  4. I mean, I'm a casual fan, but that first sentence.... do you have stats to back that up that his hits are in games that were already decided? As for the latter, over large samples "clutch" doesn't exist. The playoffs don't permit large samples; I'll give you that. I happen to accept as likely true that in the playoffs players have to figure out how to relax enough to let their talent play and if they can't/don't then they're less likely to play to their talent. Ortiz is a limited hitter. I suspect he won't be great at the plate in the playoffs. We agree on that. But there is no one else for them to play at SS who provides a net improvement over him. It is, as they say, what it is at this point. And anyway, his sample of ineptitude with the bases loaded is big enough that regression is going to occur at some point and probably soon if those chances keep coming. Why not the first week of October? lol
  5. I don't think anything changed. They're a small market team. The front office didn't give him anyone else better (and no, Mona isn't better than Ortiz). So he played him because he's a plus defender and the only other SS on the roster who can play the position as well is playing 2B and experienced shoulder soreness when he played SS earlier this year. I don't think Murphy had much in the way of viable alternatives. Front office is worthy of criticism for not addressing the position but I don't think Murphy is for using him.
  6. It's not deceiving at all. It's data. You can say you're unpersuaded by it and that's fine. But you can't rationally point at facts say their "of course deceiving" because he "seems" to be a guy who will fail in the playoffs. I don't have a problem with wishing they had someone at SS who could hit for power and take more walks but that doesn't mean his actual results aren't real.
  7. I mean, I get the concern, but they're pretty close to getting the #1 seed in the playoffs and he's been the starting SS all season while they put that together.
  8. He's hitting .267 over the last 30 games for what it's worth. Problem now is that his OBP is still poor because his BB rate over that same period is like 3%, and there's basically no power. The bad run with the bases loaded makes him seem worse than he actually has been over the last month. It's not good, but it's better than it was in the first half of the season.
  9. Ditto. Ortiz's bat is a problem but honestly there's no sense worrying about it at this point. It's been a problem all year and they're going to win 95+ games. The pitching issues are new though. Whether they'll turn a 95+ win team into an also ran in the playoffs remains to be seen, but the Brewres have less margin for error than any other team in the playoffs. As always.
  10. Ah. so hitting Yelich in the lead off was a genius plan to get him up after Ortiz after Ortiz failed to deliver with the bases loaded. Now I get it.
  11. I'd scold Ortiz for not getting a run in there but I'm too exhausted with being disappointed in Ortiz at this point.
  12. It doesn't matter. There is no real option. Woodruff is probably done for the year.
  13. Pretty sure that would have gone to the backstop or up the line. 2 runs might have scored?
  14. Wait, what I've been feeling about what's going to happen in the playoffs (and, glancing at the IL, what appears to be happening as we speak) was Unofficial Playoff Anxiety?
  15. Good sign from a manager like Murphy, who has a tendency to stick to "roles" with his player usage, that he's shown some willingness to look for the highest leverage opportunity with his best/better relievers lately.
