  1. Canha is already on the team ....he has been for at least a week. Ok, he's not technically on it but he's not the last spot on the roster. Since he's not on the 40-man, someone has to be DFA or put on the 60-day IL. However, the last spot goes to .....Monasterio or Durbin. Canha is the backup at 1B, Dunn and Capra are the clear platoon at 3rd. Monasterio has had the better Spring then Durbin, Durbin has a higher upside. One thing against Durbin is he needs to have plate appearance to get better and if he's the 13th player, that's not going to happen, he'd be better in AAA playing regularly.
  2. The Cubs certainly got better for 2025. Did they get 10 games better? I don't think so. Ok, maybe the Brewers don't win 93 again but do NOT bet against it! A healthy Christian Yelich, a better starting rotation and easy-to-see better years from Mitchell and Hoskins, not to mention Ortiz, the Brewers will be just fine. Until the Cubs SHOW they can be a playoff team, I'm going with the Brewers, who have already PROVEN they are a playoff team with 3 division title in the last 4 years. The Cubs haven't made the playoffs since 2019 (please, don't include 2020 which was a joke for everyone).
  3. Infielders TRYING to make the team.. Ortiz is already on the team, set. My comment meant Durbin, Capra, Monasterio and even Black.
  4. Dunn is a lefty that the infield needs. His bat has the best power potential of the infielders trying to make the team. As for at bats needed, he would get his share since most teams have more right handed pitchers. He is not THE answer but definitely a nice fit for this year and better than the other players.
  5. Well, you had to know even a couple of years ago there was no way we'd keep Peralta after 2026. He's on a super team-friendly contract, 8 million a year and he'll want - and deserves the 12-15 million a year that he will get after 2026.
  6. I guess the comments here reflect the old saying. "In the eye of the beholder." Dunn looks excellent to me and being a lefty, I think he's definitely on the team. Capra is a solid defender who is having a great Spring Training at the plate but he's not going to keep this up, he'd be the NL MVP! Still, he's looked solid. However Durbin has not looked good at all to me. He's had 2 errors in one week, was slow getting to a grounder yesterday, he's not hitting much although he has a decent swing. If Dunn and Capra make the team, I''d prefer Durbin in AAA to play regularly and have Monasterio as the last guy. In short, Durbin has not impressed me at all and seems to need some work.
  7. I'm super happy to have Quintana and at this salary, he's a steal. All the other teams didn't pass on him, the Pirates offered him a contract, more than what the Brewers offered him. This was about 10 days ago, Quintana rejected it and the Pirates signed Andrew Heaney instead.
  8. Ok, I know I'm late to the party on this one but to answer the question, no way! The Brewers still have 4 solid outfielders without Perkins and yes, we all know Yelich is going to DH some. Yelich really likes playing the field so don't think tat he's going to be DH for 80-90 games, more like 40-50. If you want the right handed bat in their for CF, then it's Chourio who is already getting reps there and has played the position a lot in the minors. Besides, Mitchell and Frelick would still do ok IMO against lefties. Canha can play one of the corner spots when Chourio is in CF, Haas has over 150 games played in LF as well. No, we do not need a 5th outfielder whatsoever.
  9. ..."bullpen is noticeably weaker...(without Milner and Williams) Really? You mean the Devin Williams that first pitched on July 28, 2024, missing the first four months of the six month season. Williams was excellent afterwards but the Brewers did quite well while he was out, more on that in a minute. Milner was not good at all last year, nice guy but a 4.73 era is especially not good for a reliever and he was BP at times against other teams. Meanwhile, we've retained the rest of the best bullpen in the NL from last year and have added for the BEGINNING of the year: Alexander, Anderson, Wolfram, Thomas, E Rodriguez, from AAA Patrick and Henderson, non-roster invite Garcia and possibly Ashby if he's not in the starting rotation. No, we are definitely NOT weaker, sorry. Yeah, some of these guys have a bit to prove, but I also didn't include Uribe. Bukauskas, he was already DFA'd and was a non roster, not a part of this years plan. YES, we could use another starter, innings eater or someone like Quintana, easier said than done.
  10. Jack McKibbin ....thank you! Absolutely poppycock is right. Good that Frelick is in great shape and put on some muscle mass but 25 pounds is an absolute joke! I'm at Am Fam stadium a LOT - and have seen Frelick very often, if he put on 25lbs he'd be in the low 200's. Probably more like 15 pounds is what he gained. Sorry Adam McCalvy, you might be a Brewer insider and I'll go with 95% of what you say ....but not this 5%.
  11. I think Hoskins is going to have a solid year, definite improvement. What's solid? A .235ba, 33hr's, ,325 OBP. So, not quite to what he had in Philly but still a very nice jump.
  12. Cheez, "where has this been established?" Clearly, you don't follow the Brewers coverage much otherwise you would know from both the local and national media that this has been reported, a number of times. This blog has many positives, I come here often for good information. That being said, I'll take the analysis of local reporters who do this for a living, you know as in get paid a decent salary to write about the team. They go on road trips, they are professionals who undoubtedly are not always right, but the information that they have put out, shows the Brewers who are normally financially strapped, even more so this year. Interestingly, the national media, again paid professionals have ... ta-da, come to the same conclusion as the local media, (beat writers). Look it up, it's not that hard. This is called established.
  13. Hmmm, maybe I'll sign this guy, or trade for that guy or do a combination of both! Or maybe none of the above, it's been established, the Brewers do NOT have this much money! They have 4, perhaps 5 million at the most, quit writing these articles. All it does is misinform fans and create anger when something isn't done that couldn't be done in the first place.
  14. It's gotten closer for sure, though I too still pick the Brewers. I agree completely with the article that a big part has to do with Yelich and Mitchell and while still important, Woodruff a little less. The Cubs picking up Colin Rea is a nice little boost too. Still, the Brewers didn't acquire Yelich or Lorenzo Cain until January 22, Hoskins until January 26 and didn't do the Burnes trade until February 1. In other words, the Brewers are still going to make a trade or acquire someone, not huge but someone who will clearly make the team better. Yes, I think it will be a third baseman.. Our bullpen, defense and young pitchers coming up from AAA give the Brewers the edge, win the division by 3-4 games.
  15. I just read the new article Jack, VERY interesting to say the least. And, yes, while it might not get Bichette, it certainly would help in acquiring someone else. Still, I need to see/hear a bit more before I completely accept this, even though I want to accept it very much.
  16. SF70, With 5 outfielders and 2 guys at DH, where would Grichuk play? Beyond that, I think your post makes a lot of sense.
  17. Hmmm, to answer the headline .....NO!!! I'd love to have Bichette and where are you going to find the money to pay him? The Brewers are EXHAUSTED as in depleted financially. Unless someone is going to take an incentive-based salary that would not exceed 4 million, the Brewers can't come close to this financially , not even remotely close. Sorry for the "juice" in this post but seriously, have you not followed that the Brewers are currently, as I am writing this, completely strapped?
  18. Wow, excellent analysis and explanations Jack. I gotta say, I didn't think this guy before and I still don't feel great about him but better than before. I also didn't know that the Rule 5 pick only needed 90 days on the active roster, I thought it was the whole year or the trade deadline.
  19. Yep, he's with the Mets as Simba mentioned. No worries BrewerFanatic, you still have more articles and more quality articles than the other blogs.
  20. For the most part, I'm with SF70, for the same reasons mentioned. Bohm is a little up in the air but I'd still make the trade without Black. MLB TradeRumors didn't think the Brewers would make the Bohm for Devin trade straight up! I would. I absolutely do NOT want Mauricio, flip a coin and see if he works. No way! I would also go for the Jung trade. One not mentioned here is the Rangers Josh Smith which I think could be had for the same Brewers package listed here. He just won a 2024 Silver Slugger Award for Utility player though he mostly played 3rd base. Tyler Black's trade value is down as Jay mentioned in his post, not far down but it's certainly not where it was this time last year.
  21. Tim, thanks for the response. A couple of things briefly. Yes, I agree that the Brewers would PREFER to get someone with more than 2 years which is why I think they should trade with the Rangers - for Josh Smith at 3B. That's a different story. While all clubs have to be financially responsible, I don't see why the Rangers would be needing to save money and unload an excellent 1st baseman. That's for the smaller market teams as you well know. But, Lowe at 1b for 122 games, Hoskins the other 40 and 82 games at DH. Now, they've both played 75% of the games, Yelich can still DH a chunk along with whoever. The internet has gone nuts with many MLB insiders claiming that the Brewers were interested in Goldschmidt which I believe. If they were, the Lowe deal makes that much more sense.
  22. "Devin Williams is too high a price to pay for two years of Lowe alone." Are you kidding me?! Sorry, this Blog is fantastic with excellent information but I would jump at that and so would Matt Arnold! Here's a lefty 1st baseman, he won a Gold Glove in 2023, he won the AL Silver Slugger Awrard for 1st base in 2022. He has hit .262, .264, .302 and .265 and has 78 homers in the last 4 years for a 19.5 yearly average. The Brewers have MeGill to close and others for the 7-8 innings. PLEASE, make this deal, the Payamps and Peguero suggestion would have the Rangers saying that's a nice start, now really give me something!
  23. Funny, I see a bunch of comments on the link to 2008 condemning Fielder. Parra was like an opera singer = Me, Me, Me and sulked like a 5 year old boy when he didn't get his way I remember hearing. Fielder had enough and let Manny know about it.
  24. "At bats in the outfield" .....WHERE? You have Chourio, Yelich, Mitchell, Frelick and Perkins. The OF is the ONR spot there isn't any ab's. Yeah, Yelich will DH some but that's necessary and he'll still play left. Frelick with some ab's at 3rd possibly, still, the "perfect match" isn't close I'm sorry to say. This would be perfect if he was a 3rd baseman or a lefty !st baseman.
