SF70, I almost couldn't agree more, well said! Woodruff is indeed gone as much as I and others would like him to stay. Peralta ONLY gets traded if we get an unbelievable offer. Then, yes, it's MIz and Patrick along with Priester. My only change is Gasser for Ashby though Ashby starting over him would not surprise because of the exact reason you pointed out, Gasser needing to build himself up again. Regardless, you need a lefty in the rotation. Henderson has fantastic upside and is a clear starter in the future, even 2026 but again, has to build up his innings. He pitched 102 last year, the most ever in his career. contract to Patrick who pitched 124 innings in 2023, 136 in 2024 and 160 here in 2025. Henderson is next years Patrick, starting at AAA and with the Brewers. However, if all the pitchers did indeed show that they are ready to start, a 6 man rotation would be interesting with: Peralta, Miz, Patrick, Priester, Gasser and Henderson. No, I do NOT expect that at all but it's interesting as I said.

With all due respect, long term with Contreras has LONG passed. He's a free agent after the 2027 season, so only under team control for 2 more years. Various Brewer blogs and the local newspaper have written that he wants to cash in big and the Brewers know they cannot afford him. Also, they have Jefferson Quero as one of the best catching prospects in the minors. However, Turang doesn't become a free agent until after the 2029 season and yes, this is the off season to extend him. While they have Made and Pena in the minor leagues, they're a couple of years away and as good as Pena seems to be, he struggled at High A. Made is untouchable and probably goes to third base anyway. Definitely try to extend Turang now before he gets to be unaffordable.

The Cubs are good, actually very good. However, the Brewers are better, not by a lot, but better nonetheless. We clobbered them in game one, won by a decent margin in game 2, the won by the skin of their teeth in game 3. A Bauers single in the 8th and this series is over. Ok, it didn't happen but the Cubs just hung on. Cubs finally beat the Brewers soundly yesterday. I like Quintana for a couple innings and 3 with Priester, 2 for Miz and that leads us to Megill and Uribe. Ok, maybe 2 for Priester and 1 inning of Patrick though he's pitched a fair amount. Brewers will win, book it.

The point of this article is spot on, the Cubs defense is excellent. They actually have more players in the running for Gold Gloves than the Brewers do. And, Jack makes the great point of teams making mistakes, and the Cubs didn't in the last 5 games series at Wrigley, specifically after the first game that the Brewers won.

Arnold absolutely makes the call for the roster and the playoffs for sure. He might get input by Murphy, others in the Brewer Brass but it's ultimately Arnold's decision.

No mention of Robert Gasser, odd. Murphy just said last night, "I think you'll see him soon." Gasser has pitched since late July, and the Brewers Brass specifically had him working as a reliever in AAA the last month. Now Quintana is out through the rest of the regular season. If Gasser pitches like he can and I think he will, Gasser has an excellent chance to be on the playoff roster. He'd be here for the last 9 games (starting this Friday) and as a lefty, he takes over DL Hall's role as a multi inning reliever. Quintana's injury solidifies Gasser and he's much better than Rob Z. Also, absolutely no way Lockridge makes the playoff roster, bet all of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos money on that. Sorry, not trying to be rude, I just can't fathom that.

While Clemente came after other Latino players, he is essentially THE Jackie Robinson of Latino players given his accomplishments. Sadly, he was mistreated by the American Press that time and time again called him "Bobby" trying to Americanize him as much as possible. If you pull up a video on Clemente speaking about baseball, life, and helping others, you'll see the greatness in the PERSON, even greater than the Hall of Fame player.

OK, unlike others here, I've always liked Monasterio as a utility player and am very comfortable with him as backup SS. Monasterio's main position coming up through the minor leagues was SS and while he's played the other infield positions, he still has easily played more games as a professional than any other position. As for his hitting, last year he played once in a blue moon and his average, overall performance reflected this. However, in 2023, when he was the main player at 3B, he hit in the high .260's for almost the whole year before Josh Donaldson was acquired. Then, Mona's playing time decreased but still finished with a.259 ba and an obp of .330. If he's given semi regular reps backing up 2b, SS and 3b, he will definitely produce.
-
Agree! We need a slugger and your suggestion of Ortiz as utility has merit except for who would be the starting SS if he's not in there? I'll trade for Suarez though it's going to cost a lot and have him at 3B most of the time and DH 25% of the time. Durbin, Turang, Ortiz between SS and 2B, Turang obviously playing the vast majority. My point was simply Ortiz is now hitting well for practically 2 months so the "he's an automatic out" with some people (not the article author) isn't legit anymore. Get a slugger and get creative with the lineup, match ups against certain pitchers, if a player slumps, etc.
-
The idea that Ortiz is not hitting now is just factually incorrect. Yes, we all know that he wasn't simply bad in April and May, he was awful. However, since June 1, he is hitting .269 with an OBP of .310. This is NOT a small sample size, July is over in 5 days and even if he goes something like 4/20 in the next 5 games, he'd have a .256 batting average since 6/1. With his fantastic defense, how is this unacceptable? Yes, look to improve the team, the 1B situation screams for us to get Ryan O"Hearn from the Orioles and then get a better backup player for 3B and SS.
-
"Willi Castro for Monasterio, and Ryan O'Hearn for Bauers. Those moves add slugging, versatility and experience without messing with the current team's success." I'm sorry and do not wanna sound rude. However, the suggested trade above would have the respective GM's for the Twins and Orioles would have them saying, "Ok, these are the throw in players obviously." Now let's talk the REAL negotiations. Castro and especially O'hearn are going to cost you MUCH, more! Honestly, this would get both GM's fired quicker than you can blink. If you look on accepted sites like MLBTradeRumors, you'd know that Castro and especially O'Hearn are highly sought players and Monasterio/Bauers doesn't come remotely close.

Gasser is ahead of schedule and can easily be included as a definite starter possibility for next year. I agree wholeheartedly with this article in trading one or two of the corner infielders. I'm also ok with trading one of the AAA pitchers but ONLY for a controllable bat, not a rental. Yeah, Suarez would look great in a Brewer uniform so let's shoot for a big package with one of the infielders you mentioned, a solid prospect that was not mentioned (maybe K.C Hunt) and someone like Luis Lara. That's 3 prospects in the Brewers Top 30, yeah a lot. And, how did this hurt the current team or the team in the upcoming 2-3 years? Doesn't hurt the current team at all and in the future, we have other minor league players who rate higher. Of course, Suarez has to be available and I'm not sure he's going to be though AZ has their #1 prospect, Jordan Lawler, essentially blocked since he plays 3b. The Brewers still have players on the MLB roster who could be traded to AZ and would not hurt the team much, if any at all. AZ wants a lefty relief pitcher badly (Koenig?) and could use depth with some position players the Brewers currently have. Or, do a combinationwith the minor league players previously mentioned.

Wallus, that's the point of my post. Unless the Brewers get a steal, don't trade Quintana. In truth, AZ could use some starting pitching since they lost Burnes but they CLEARLY would not do this trade straight up, it would obviously need more.

I'm not giving up Quintana for prospects, it would have to be for someone who comes in and plays right away. Quintana is a proven vet, good arm that yes, is leaving in less than 3 months. He has struggled at times with the 3rd time through the order but even with that, he's still at 3.44 era. Last year, it was Quintana who held the Brewers scoreless in game 3 of the playoffs for 6 innings before the gut-wrenching loss. For good measure, he stifled the Phillies in his next start in the next round, Give me Eugenio Suarez from Arizona with AZ giving up a little cash. Otherwise, I'm not messing with a good thing, certainly not for prospects. I want my best team in September and hopefully October.

I'm late to the show on this one even though I saw this article earlier. Regardless, it's an interesting concept, Brewers getting better internally without a trade. Miz is a huge boost but small pluses to come like Perkins in 3 weeks or so, Woodruff in another week to 10 days, maybe Seigler with what's been mentioned here. By themselves, none of the moves do a lot but altogether they definitely move the needle in a positive direction without giving anyone up. This also doesn't include the potential help from Yoho, Henderson or Myers when the Brewers can add another pitcher. Also, I'm well aware of Turang's scary arm injury during Spring Training. However, after playing 364 games at shortstop, I don't think the throw all of a sudden is a problem. I too think he can fill in once in a while for Ortiz who simply can use a day off like Turang, Frelick, and Chourio once in a while.

If we get a big time impact player with trading any of these guys, fine. That's not easy to do so ...... No way do I move Crow at all, he just went to AAA in a short time after getting physically better. I'd trade Boeve ahead of Burke for sure. Burke is doing better at his level than Boeve currently at AA though I think Boeve is a very solid player. I think Burke is a much more traditional 1B. Black is a throw in these days, his value has plummeted. Quintana is behind so many guys he could be traded too. Wilken, I'd wait on though he does sound a lot like Joey Weimer #2 but in the infield. Not trading Wichrowski but rather KC Hunt. CRod would have to be part of a bigger package so I'm inclined to keep him as depth for this year and next. I like Tobias Meyers but he would bring more in a trade than CRod though again, in a package deal.

Dalbec has been playing a lot of right field. Also, while he has primarily been a 1st baseman and some outfield in his MLB career, he has 389 games at 3B in the minors/college. He also has hit 33 HR's at AAA in 2023, 20 last year and 25 in 2021 for the Red Sox. Sorry, Daz Cameron, but you need to be replaced and Dalbec should get some part time bats at 3B as well.

The piggyback concept seems great and is obviously working with Hall/Priester. However, it is still going to require someone going to AAA or being DFA, the latter which I don't see whatsoever. Uribe has options but has been lights out, stays. Mears does not have an option. Both long lefty's, Hall and Ashby have options but that defeats the purpose. I'm not sure if Rob Z as an option, Koenig does. In short, either Koenig or Patrick have to be optioned to AAA when Woodruff comes back, possibly Rob Z if he has an option. Of course, someone might get injured, sore arm, something to the IL for 15 days.

This was a good article though I wish with Woodruff, you would have mentioned first week of June for a return. More in tune for today, Carlos Rodriguez has been called up to pitch against the Pirates.

Yes, I agree, Ortiz will be a nice surprise to many (not me) this year with his offensive production. This article did a great job explaining things, though I already had Ortiz set for a solid 2025. I'm thinking .265ba, 15/16 Hr's, obp about .340 and less strikeouts than the average player. Combine that with his stellar defense and that's one heck of a player who should only get better.
