  1. Mitchell struggles here a bit but that's the general case in all of MLB. Perhaps he struggles more and I'm not sure if all the pitches are 4-seamers but if you wanna get a quick out and can toss 97-98mph high in the strike zone, the vast majority of hitters are going to do down.
  2. Yeah, the fiery player .....who was hated by a LARGE part of the other teams in baseball because of his constant showboating. This isn't conjecture, following the team as long as I have (57 years) and listening to what other teams said, he was not respected whatsoever. Of course, not by me either.
  3. Agree with Trueblood. Did I want Patrick on the 40? Absolutely!!! However, he is NOT currently listed as a top 30 prospect, he was never called up in 24 when there was a need. I'm happy about it but yeah, the Brewers internally seemed to be going back and forth with him. I;m glad he's in but no, it was not a no-brainer.
  4. Let me start by saying this is an excellent blog, one that has surpassed the others and has become my favorite. I know others who feel the same way. Still, other than providing an extra article, this really isn't realistic, the Brewers are obviously on a cost-cutting year and to add this much to the payroll just is not realistic. What you might wanna try is hypothetical trades with our minor league system and/or getting players who had poor years in 2024 but have decent track records prior to that. Those are the guys the Brewers will go after.
  5. Hoskins isn't going anywhere, and not simply because nobody wants to trade for him. In truth, he's a 2/3 DH and a 1/3 1st baseman. So, yes, get a semi-regular 1st baseman but Hoskins power and leadership keep him in Milwaukee even after a down year (that means batting average, OBP). NOT gonna get a top rotation guy but a solid 3/4 would be possible with the right trade package. Third base is keeping it warm for one year, they have guys out there at a minimal cost.
  6. The Devin Williams trade will obviously happen and don't be surprised if another player is traded with him as a sweetner. Not a big name but somebody on the 40-man. It is still more of a salary dump to acquire someone else though I think a part time 3rd baseman is a strong possibility. The Torres suggestion - or ANY suggestion like this is simply NOT what the Brewers do and your writers know this. This blog has written, correctly I will add, about the incoming prospects at 3B in 2026. So, the Brewers will very likely go for a player on a one year deal to hold the position down. Brandon Drury, Gio Urshela, a couple of others had poor years in 2024 but have a history of being decent. You hope for a bounce back year and buy low while waiting for Boeve or someone else for 2026.
  7. Ok, Freddy does need to go deeper - like yesterday, his 6 innings. Still, this article doesn't have the best timing. Peralta just finished August with a 2.89 era, and is obviously trending in the right direction for the stretch run. He had 28 innings for 5 starts in August which speaks to the article. Still, he's now pitching in large part like the #1 he is supposed to be.
  8. Murphy just said he's counting on Oliver Dunn to make it on time to New York for Friday. Surprise everyone, including me!
  9. Frelick is indeed a very polished outfielder. Still, while the Crew has many very good defensive players in CF, the only one who is elite is Mitchell and it's not even close. Not that the announcing team (BA, Schroeder, Dillard, etc) are infallible, but they too have made that point a number of times.
  10. Ahhhh, yes, we do need another arm from free agency if possible. Ross hasn't started a MLB game since 2021, Junis was a reliever last year and while he started in 2022, that was the first time 2ince 2019. Michael Lorenzen is nothing to shout about but easily better than these two. Michael Clevinger would immediately be a 3 in the rotation maybe a 2 and everyone goes down a slot. Yeah, I'd love them to get Clevinger and go: Peralta, Miley, Clevinger, Rea and probably Hall since the brass is pushing him.
  11. Tyler Black has essentially been determined to go to AAA, work on his glove. Murphy all but said so. Ortiz ...we'll see, he's certainly a major league player but not his position so to speak. Still, my gut says it's mainly a Monasterio/Frelick thing. This also allows more playing time in the OF for Mitchell, Weimer.
