  1. Braun is now 6th in runs scored, with 650, and he is 7th in triples, with 32. Braun just passed Rickie Weeks in both stats, so it's possible they could flip back in the other direction, but for the moment, that's where Braun sits. Braun's next triple will tie him with both Corey Hart and Cecil Cooper.
  2. It really is time for baseball fans to stop booing PED guys on other teams, as though the saints in the home uniforms would never do such a thing. I couldn't help but shake my head yesterday. There was Braun in the batters box, absolutely getting destroyed by the fans in Philly, and right behind him, in the same tight shot, was Phillies' catcher, Carlos Ruiz. The same Carlos Ruiz who served a 25 game suspension after testing positive for a banned stimulant on two separate occasions. Last season, my wife and I went to a game in St Louis, and there was a lady there taking shots at Braun all game, until I finally said, "What about McGwire?" She said, "We still love him"...and from then on she shut her mouth. Ryan Braun deserves to get hammered on for the lies he told, the first lap around the league, I have no problem with that. As far as chanting, "steroids", or, "cheater"...look in the mirror, and think a little bit.
  3. Braun's 7 RBIs today pushed him past Ben Oglivie, into 5th in franchise history, with 688.
  4. Braun has passed Geoff Jenkins in career home runs, with 214, Braun is now 3rd in Brewers history.
  5. Tyler's stats thus far this season... 7 starts, 58 IP, 4-1, ERA 0.62 (4 ER), 15 BB, 69 K, WHIP 0.96, has allowed 2 doubles, zero triples, zero home runs, opposing batting average is .200 TYLER. BADAMO.
  6. Hi nate. Let's just say the picks ahead of Milwaukee went the way I listed them, I sent Davidson to Arizona, and Newcomb to the Reds, but I agree, those are two players the Brewers certainly might take. I don't worry too much about whether the player is from high school or college, or really even what position he plays - I want the team to take the player their scouts believe will have the best major league career - period. There are some high school pitchers I really like, but there are also some really nice young hitters too, including Davidson. I know this, if Milwaukee takes a safer guy over a higher upside guy, a lot of the people who read this forum will flip.
  7. For the second time this season, Tyler was named the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. Way to go, Ebby Calvin!
  8. I'm old enough to remember the end of Hank Aaron's career, Juan Nieves' certain stardom, and the undeniable demise of baseball, at least a dozen times over. I wrote this, http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=1083 I'd appreciate it if you'd read it, then post your own response to what baseball was to you, what it is to you now, and what you believe it will be in say, 10-20 years. Thank you. -Todd
  9. Aaron Nola is a pick that would cause an uproar on this site...he's a "safe pick." If the Brewers take him they'll talk about how he's more polished, and won't need as much time in the minor leagues, etc, he's not a future #1, if all goes well, he's a solid big league starting pitcher for ten seasons.
  10. Wei-Chung Wang is a unique case in many respects. While it's true he has never pitched above the Rookie League level, he did pitch professionally overseas, and he was only subject to the Rule 5 Draft this year because of a technicality. He had agreed to a 350K bonus with Pittsburgh, but then ligament damage was found in his elbow and that deal was nixed. Wang then signed a new deal, which forced Pittsburgh to either add him to their 40-man or expose him to the Rule 5 this year, when they otherwise would not have had to. Pittsburgh has the number one ranked farm system in baseball right now, and Wang was all the way down in Rookie Ball, after Tommy John surgery, they have several more advanced prospects they had to protect, so they rolled the dice. The Brewers took a chance because the kid has a great arm, but you can't fault Pittsburgh for trying to sneak him through, he was way down their list, after an injury, I'm sure they hoped no one would be willing to keep a guy like that for this entire season. Pittsburgh did not leave their Wang unprotected because he isn't talented, or because they lost faith in him as a prospect, and the Brewers didn't select him as some sort of stunt. It took a list of unique circumstances for this player to be made available, and if he proves he can get MLB hitters out this year, the Brewers will have a great find. When one team's farm system is ranked #1, and the other team's is ranked #29....stuff like this might happen.
  11. Tyler threw a complete game tonight, 1 run, earned, 3 walks, 12 Ks. The Reds and Mets were there again, they're definitely investing the most time in him, the Reds' guy told Tyler's mom that Tyler was throwing 93 MPH in the first inning, that's the only time she talked to either of them tonight.
  12. BTW, yesterday was four years since Tyler's dad died, when Tyler was a senior in HS. RIP, Matt, we miss you!
  13. Tyler pitched tonight...7 IP, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, that's as much as I know.
  14. TooLive, I'm blessed in this regard, I've gotten to know a lot of people in the game in recent years. It wasn't really a plan, but it happened. A friend of mine is a Major League scout for the Yankees, he's helping me with Tyler. The last time I had talked to my guy, he was at dinner with Pete Vuckovich, who is a scout now, I believe for the White Sox. I talked to Tyler's mom today, she said there had been scouts from 8 teams there at Tyler's last start, she doesn't know all of them, but his coach had told her there were eight teams there. The Mets guy stayed to talk to Tyler after the game - all of them had registered him at 95 MPH twice.
  15. Crew07, there are several teams taking Tyler seriously right now. For certain, the Mets, Reds, Pirates, and both LA teams - there may be more, but at least those teams. I spoke to the Yankees today, they're sending someone to watch him.
  16. Tyler was 92-94 all game long today, and he hit 95 MPH twice.
  17. Some new stuff on Tyler... http://www.dowlingathletics.com/news/2014/1/31/BB_0131144008.aspx http://www.dowlingathletics.com/news/2014/2/5/BB_0205145224.aspx
  18. Garza's good, Garza's 30, it's 4 years guaranteed, Garza gets hurt sometimes....hey, that sounds like a free agent starting pitcher to me! I don't see a reason not to do this, the team knows the risks, and I think the billionaire in the room can decide if he's got the cash to cover it. The Brewers' rotation suddenly has a chance to be very good, nobody will be asked to be "The Man", because there is depth now. Every team starts with, "If our guys stay healthy...", and of course some years they do and some years they don't, but for the Brewers, "If our guys stay healthy", they should have a chance to win more often than not.
  19. Whoever it is, I just hope the Brewers add a 1B quickly, otherwise, the "Will we give up our draft pick, and sign Kendrys Morales" posts will drive me crazy.
  20. It sounds like Atlanta wants to add a pitcher, but they're saying they can't take on much payroll. To me, the biggest question is, will the Brewers part with Lohse, or will ownership decide they can compete in 2014? I know what most of the fans here would want, but this ownership group has not been the "win later" sort.
  21. Aoki's a nice player, but he's not a stud, and he was gone in a year anyway. The Brewers need to try Davis, to see if he can cut it as a MLB starter - no one has ever had too many power bats. Segura should do just fine in the leadoff spot, to me, there is no question there at all. Those things all make sense to me, the question is, how good is Smith? He had a weak year as a starter, and a strong year as a reliever, but he's got a big arm, and he's under team control for a while. To me, this isn't the sexy move fans always hope for, but it's worth trying...we'll find out.
  22. I don't know how this could have been seen any other way, given Rickie's current health status. Rickie's got a hill to climb to get back, and Scooter played well, I would assume that would make him the favorite in early October.
  23. Patrick, I had seen Gatewood projected around #5 in this draft a few months back, but he's slipped a bit because there are those lingering doubts, I've never seen him, but what I've read makes it sound like his swing gets long, and he hasn't been able to adjust away from that. For those who don't know, Max Pentecost is a catcher from Kennessaw State U, who really turned heads in the Cape Cod League this summer. I wouldn't hesitate to take him, based on Lucroy, because you're looking at the 2014 draft pick, who then gets to Milwaukee in about 2017. In that case, the team gets 3 more years, minimum, out of Lucroy, and then they either have a trade chip, or as Colby said, perhaps a position change.
  24. Colby, you're making the pick for the Brewers, and you're on the clock...which one of these guys would you take? Ti'quan Forbes Jacob Gatewood Sean Newcomb Max Pentecost
