  1. There are multiple tweets out of Chicago to this effect, it seems as though Kerry has had enough.
  2. A new organization has been formed in California, in reaction the severe beatings of fans in LA, San Francisco, and New York. This is a fantastic new group, which is growing rapidly...here's the story... http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=423
  3. The Giants won't allow the A's to build in San Jose, so here come the rumblings about a possible relocation. If that happens, which city is next in line? I'd love to see a team in Jersey, but I know we won't...I'll bet on San Antonio.
  4. Wow, the Padres still owe Hudson 4.2M for this year, and the buyout for next year is another 2M.
  5. Keith Law says the Padres have DFA'd Orlando Hudson, Danny Knobler says he's been released...either way, he's done with the Padres. http://www.prorumors.com/2012/05/rumors/san-diego-padres-designate-orlando-hudson-for-assignment
  6. Wow, really? I guess I see no difference between the two terms, but ok. I'm not selling a list title on this one, I'm sharing the exercise and inviting people to participate in the process.
  7. Love it or hate it, I'm just calling the list what the guys at baseball-reference call it. No one is told to base their votes on anything...home runs, steals, hair color, none of it....a bunch of stats are given for each player, a lot of which are 100% offense...classic counting stats, etc. WAR is there too, which takes into account more than just hitting stats, but it's one of many things that are provided, and again, no one is instructed to vote based on any particular thing. Whatever you think of the list title, and however your personally choose to rank one guy over another, the point is...to vote. I can't imagine anyone thinking Alfonso Soriano is anywhere near the class of George Brett, and I can't see why the player who scored the most runs in MLB history would seem out of place at #20 on a list like this...but this thread shows the debate that always exists when comparisons begin...which is awesome... Vote on home runs, vote on WAR, vote on whatever you believe in, the more educated fans who participate, the better the list becomes.
  8. My internet connection has been bugging me.
  9. I'm sure Hamilton is going to get a huge contract, but I don't think he'll come close to what Prince got. Why? In his seasons with the Rangers, Hamilton has averaged 125 games played. I think Hamilton will get more money than Jose Reyes got, because I think teams pay more for power...but his contract is a much better baseline in this case than Prince's deal is.
  10. Hi Briggs. The title of the thread is not misleading, I named both the thread, and the page where you're reading the rankings, that's on my website. Baseball-reference.com, which is conducting the voting, has called the non-pitchers list, "batters", so I did too in this thread. I'm going to add the pitchers list to my site as well, when I do, I'll change that page to "All-Time Hitters." Take a look at how the voting works. http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/elo.cgi You'll see, two players are compared, and the viewer sees traditional counting stats, awards such as All-Star, Gold Glove, etc, and also career WAR. Most of these stats are strictly based on offensive totals....you'll notice, no one is instructed as to which stats to base their votes on. Some people are likely basing this on counting stats, some on WAR, and of course, emotion is in the mix, as is clearly the case with Barry Bonds. The best way to impact this list, of course....is to vote your opinion. These rankings update all the time. Mantle and Speaker have traded the #10 spot many times, and Molitor and Yount keep leap-frogging one another.
  11. Hatcher has been there for years....I hope Albert will at least buy him something nice. What a turn of events, he gets the best hitter of this generation, and six weeks in...he's gone.
  12. If you haven't seen it yet, Lawrie was called out on strikes...he disagreed...he spiked his helmet on the turf, and it hit the umpire in the leg. I know he's a passionate guy, but that was really stupid. Place your bets...what's that going to cost? My bet...three games.
  13. RockCo, those rankings change all the time...you can vote on these players. The site gives you two players at a time, and you pick one...moving one player up and one player down when you vote. I've noticed, for instance, Mantle and Speaker keep trading off the #10 spot.
  14. This is up-to-the-minute, as voted by readers at baseball-reference.com... http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?page_id=357
  15. I think the Brewers could afford Hamilton, if they absolutely wanted to, and I think Josh may have some interest in playing here. The thing is, Greinke and Marcum are both free agents, and the team will have to make a decision on Wolf's option for next year. Could they pay for Hamilton? Yes, probably. Could they pay for Hamilton without completely blowing up the pitching staff? Probably not.
  16. I've known John Defuso for 20 years now. When I first spoke to him he was a brash 20-year-old kid...now, he's a 40- year-old father of three. Here's John's baseball story... http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=336
  17. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/6160/1976toppsrolliefingers.jpg The photo is real, the card is a photoshop...
  18. OK, one thing is going to go the Brewers' way this season, yeah, that's what I meant...
  19. It's official...absolutely nothing will go the Brewers' way this season.
  20. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/boston-red-sox-fenway-park-announcer-carl-beane-dies-in-car-crash-050912
  21. It's the story of the season so far, missed opportunities by the offense, and I'm not really sure what happened to the D on the ball Votto hit. Votto couldn't have hit it any better against the defense alignment, but something happened from Point A to Point B...that ball was certainly fielded in time for a play at the plate, but there wasn't even a throw.
  22. Boy, there's nothing to say to Axford, he's making good pitches, but he's given up a broken bat single, a soft liner that bit the Brewers' defensive alignment in the butt, and a check swing bloop....for two runs. The story of the Brewers' season so far...
