  1. Cubs get minor leaguers Arodys Vizcaino and Jaye Chapman.
  2. What? Yes, really.
  3. A lot of the Brewers' top prospects right now are pitchers, and nothing in the world is more volatile than young pitchers. There's a lot to like about the farm system right now. The Brewers have a legit prospect at SS, 2B and 1B, and they've got a couple of outfielders who could stick too...all of whom are at AA or higher right now. There's a list of what, 6-10 pitchers who have a chance to make it too, of course some will fail, but that's the best list of arms the Brewers have had on hand in at least 20 years. The best part is, we've got Braun, who will fill an OF spot for years, and we've got catcher covered. I'm sure not everyone will pan out, but at least potentially, the farm system now offers a bright young player to fill every opening spot except third base. Maybe other teams have more prospects, and maybe other teams have higher ranked prospects, but the Brewers have players in the system who will fill the upcoming needs of the big league club. That's the whole point.
  4. How do you explain anything that's happened with the bullpen from last year to this year? It's almost too much to believe. Stan won't be the only one who pays for this, there's no way this group of relievers will return intact for next season, past performance, or not.
  5. Yep, that was a good list to begin the season, but it is badly out of date at this point. They did add the guys the Brewers got for Greinke, but that's about it. I'm trying to reach Jonathan, he knows his stuff and he's been willing to communicate with me in the past. I'd like to know if he oversees those lists during the season, or if they have some staffer on it...as it stands, that list of Brewers prospects is embarrassing for them.
  6. I understand how people think others are more responsible for this mess than Kyles, but I have no problem with firing the bullpen coach due to the complete failure of the bullpen. I'm sure this is the first move of many, I'd guess nearly all of the guys who have been in that pen all season will be somewhere else next season.
  7. Wow, RFC, I'm sorry to hear that.
  8. From a rock-solid source... The Rangers nearly won the bidding, Doug Melvin really liked pitchers Cody Buckel, and Justin Grimm, who were offered with a third player. In the end, it was very close, Doug went with the Angels' offer because Segura fills the huge hole the organization had at SS. Reading between the lines, it was the better SS and solid pitchers, or the better arms with the lesser third player...Doug took the SS. Since the team finally has a string of arms coming through the system, and a total mess at SS, I don't blame Doug one bit. When you look back on this in future years, remember the names Cody Buckel and Justin Grimm...it was one offer or the other. Edit: I haven't confirmed this, but I've seen reports that the third player was Leury Garcia. Garcia has been moved to 2B by the Rangers, but that's only because they have Andrus and Profar ahead of him - he was signed as a SS and he has the arm to cover it. Garcia is a small man, listed at 5' 7" 153 lbs. Garcia is only 20 so things could still change, but to this point, he's a low OBP, no power guy with speed - he simply is not in Segura's class as a hitter.
  9. Masterson's numbers have been all over the place over the last couple of years, but he's controlled through 2014, I'm sure someone will want him.
  10. What's happening with the Brewers' bullpen right now has reached the point of incredible. I'm sure there will be major changes made in this regard between now and March, but I don't know if Kranitz is the issue or not. Usually, when a team flops, they fire a coach and say, "You can't fire the players." Well, in this instance, they can fire most of the players, and I believe they will.
  11. OK...I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE IN THE DUGOUT OR THE FRONT OFFICE SUGGEST THIS If you're watching the telecast today, the announcers have been discussing the possibility of moving Lucroy to another position in the future, because he has a "Mauer-like bat." The idea, of course, is to protect his body from the demands of the catcher position, to keep his bat in the lineup. Two questions...do you see Lucroy as that type of hitter, and even if you do, would you move him?
  12. Nice job Mark, congratulations, you looked like a first-rounder today!
  13. The more I look at this trade, the more I like it. I'm not convinced either pitcher will make it as a starter, but I think, both have a good shot at sticking in the major league bullpen, which would be fine with me. I like how Doug played this, the SS from the Angels was clearly better than the SS from Texas, so he told Texas they had to up the pitcher on their side to Perez, which they refused. Good enough, two decent pitching prospects and the best position player either team would give, at a position of need.
  14. Not only do the Brewers have a solid Top 10 again, but they have more than 10 guys who are worthy of consideration. 1. Segura 2. Peralta 3. Thornburg 4. Nelson 5. Pena 6. Hellweg 7. Burgos 8. Gennett 9. Jungmann 10. Bradley
  15. I just took that from the one that's posted, I couldn't resist quoting, "Potentially useful future arm" right about now.
  16. adambr2, a #2 starter would be wonderful, but after all this time, and all the setbacks, if Mark becomes a plus bullpen arm in Milwaukee, the Brewers should be thrilled.
  17. This is the kind of stuff that makes baseball fun, if you could just read stats ahead of time and correctly predict every game...why bother having games at all? Prior to his call-up, Fiers was ranked the Brewers' #19 prospect, in our own Power 50. This, is his description..."Fiers is fanning just over a man per IP while allowing only 58 hits and 25 walks in 81.1 AAA / AA frames. At some point, you simply have to forget he was drafted just as he turned 24 and say, "yes, that is a potentially useful future arm on a Brewer staff.'" Yes indeed, Mr Fiers appears to be a "potentially useful arm."
  18. Honestly, I think the Brewers might have paid Prince 25M, if the bidding hadn't reached that many years in the deal.
  19. To make room on the 40-Man for the new guys, Brock Kjeldgaard and Edwin Maysonet have been DFA'd.
  20. Rogers is being summoned to Milwaukee....you just have to root for the guy.
  21. I don't believe Hamilton will come anywhere close to 175-200 million, and with Greinke not taking the money, and the other players who are coming off the books, I absolutely will not rule out a Brewers' run at Hamilton this winter. It would certainly be a risky move, but if the number comes in at 20-25 million and 5 years, the Brewers could absolutely fit him in if they decide they really want to. The last I heard, the Rangers' last offer had been in the 90-95 million range for five years...he's over 30, with plenty of missed games on his resume...I really don't think a Fielder-type deal is coming for Hamilton.
  22. Segura may be as good as anything we have right now, but playing him in Milwaukee will get the team nowhere in a lost season...if the front office thinks he needs more minor league time, that works for me.
  23. I know nothing about Pena or Hellweg, but after one quick browse of their minor league stats, Pena looks like a decent prospect, Hellweg not as much. Anyone?
