  1. Ryan did not flinch at the conference. He was himself... confident, cool, articulate, convincing... He did a great job. I am hoping this will sway more people outside of the Brewer fan base to see him in a more positive light. I don't know if he can ever regain what was lost over this unfortunate series of events, but with time, it can become a minor footnote... I hope
  2. Does Shandler do skill grades like Lindy's did last year? It may be just the thing to keep me going til opening day
  3. Good point. They're got them coming in third in the ALC
  4. Only if Washington goes back to the Bullets name in the NBA. I agree that franchise names should stay with the city, but they should have the option to change it, too. The Redskins should probably change their name. There are legitimate reasons to change names. And, the Colts name and logo should have stayed in Baltimore, the same way Cleveland kept the Browns name and colors.
  5. Combing through Lindy's 2012 Baseball Preview and much to my surprise I see them predicting Ned as AL Manager of the Year. Wow. No explanation for it. Even when I looked at the KC preview and tried to read between the lines. KC is stockpiled with young talent may be the only leading indicator I saw in Lindy's, but there was very little directly on Ned. I just thought it was interesting.
  6. Lindy's is not as good this year. Individual player reports and skill grades aren't there. Now they're just like the others. Bummer
  7. Yup.Double yup. He loves it with the Brewers, and I bet he'd sign a minor league deal again.Oh, wouldn't that be fun
  8. It's only one more month and Lindy's MLB Preview hits the rack! No, I don't work for them. I just actually look forward to the day it's published because I read them. Hey, it's got cool ratings and one-paragraph "scouting reports". I start with the Crew, then it's on to the Cards, Cubs, Reds. and those other two NLCD teams. Then I usually read the other NL teams before going onto the AL. I know, I'm pathetic. Does anyone have a preseason rag that they love more than Lindy's? Happy New Year
  9. And I thought I'd be the first to post a Happy Holidays to all. This is great. BrewerFan is the best. Good Wishes to you all
  10. I can't stop reading this thread. It's just unreal. It reminds me of the losing to Denver in the SB. You just wish it was all a dream and that it couldn't really be happening.
  11. "Since being informed of the results, Braun has been disputing his case. A source close to Braun said that when he was told about the positive test, he immediately requested to be tested again. That second test, the source said, was not positive. Those close to Braun believe that the difference between the two tests will show that the first test was invalid." This is the only glimmer of hope
  12. I'm numb. This is terrible, terrible new. As Nancy Kerrigan once said, "why?... why?... why?.."
  13. Good point. Sorry I missed it the first million times you made it. Got it
  14. Would it be annoying to point out that the #2 and #3 fielding SS last year were JJ and Alcides? Gonzalez was middle of the pack. It's probably a 1 win upgrade. I'm good with it, but I'm not excited.
  15. Fangraphs has the Bill James projections for next year. Without making any moves, our numbers are projecting out worse. Below is last years' OPS, the OPS projection and the percentage change. The good news is that BJ has Gamel going up 171%. While that sounds great, it's really a 17% drop off from Prince. I wonder if we can get 2 win shares out of him if he's full-time at first. Gamel's numbers against lefties have been declining, not improving. Casey should be improving by 17%, but that's hardly the "bounce back" that Doug is probably hoping for given the dismal 2011 CM had. What's striking is that nearly everyone is dropping. BJ must think we overperformed. I don't think it's player age, not across the board like that. Lucroy .703 .721 3% Kottaras .771 .761 -1% Fielder .981 .956 -3% Gamel .302 .818 171% Weeks .818 .808 -1% McGehee .626 .732 17% Betancourt .652 .673 3% Braun .994 .953 -4% Gomez .679 .672 -1% Morgan .778 .707 -9% Hart .866 .826 -5% Hairston .727 .692 -5% On the pitching side, I looked at BJ's FIP numbers. The last column is change again, with positive an improvement and negative a decline. He only projects Yoga improving on 2011 from the rotation. Saito and Braddock have the biggest jumps. The biggest drops are Hawkins and Loe. Off the cliff declines. Gallardo 3.59 3.31 8% Greinke 2.98 3.23 -8% Marcum 3.73 4.01 -8% Wolf 4.29 4.36 -2% Narveson 4.06 4.24 -4% Saito 3.40 3.05 10% Hawkins 2.76 3.58 -30% Rodriguez 2.72 2.72 0% Axford 2.41 2.41 0% Braddock 4.70 3.51 25% Estrada 3.67 3.76 -2% Loe 2.80 3.99 -43% I tried to correlate the changes against last year's WAR. Assuming Fielder, Counsell and Kotsay are gone, the team WAR drop is 5.9 points
  16. As much as I would love to see Reyes at SS for the Crew next year, I know that we'd end up over spending for him. I am not sold on the idea of MIA getting all 3. That would be quite an off season. Hard to imagine pulling that off.

  21. Have you ever noticed how some of the least classy people criticize other people for not being classy? R.I.P. Andy * * * * * * Actually, this might be a good thread on its own. In honor of Andy, of course
  22. I don't know how many people saw this Chicago tribune article, but it's pretty interesting. "Applicants will be confronted with game-like situations to test decision-making"http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-1104-process-cubs-chicago--20111104,0,5854329.story I wonder how Ron or Ned would have done with that. I can't see Doug trying anything like it.
