  1. This is maybe going to sound picky and ungrateful, but I did not like the passive approaches by Yelich and Contreras after Churio gets on and advances in the fourth. Gausman pitched a great game today, and when the opp pitcher is that on, you have to capitalize on opportunities. Both of them took passive approaches early in the count, let fastballs go by or fouled them off and then looked horrible on the inevitable two strike diving splitter. With a runner on second and nobody out, back to back non-competitive ABs ending in whiffs is a killer. I get that the Brewers approach is to make the opposing pitcher work, drive up pitch counts, but when the guy on the mound is as on as Gausman was, you need to be ready to go early in the AB. Yelich looked more passive, Contreras just couldn't time him up. I am glad Priester was able to keep them in the game after Turang's errant throw led to a run, and happy with the outcome. But for a while I was expecting the top of the fourth to be the story within the story.
  2. I feel a little bit divided on this one. On one hand, success in the postseason involves a lot of good fortune and can easily hinge on one or two things going right or breaking bad. You can certainly have a good or even great season that ends in disappointment. Last year's WC game 3 is a great example: it came down to just one pitch. This team has already vastly exceeded expectations--those of the pundits but also my own--and that alone is reason to feel good about this season, regardless of what October brings. On the other hand, I have been following this team since 1978 and have seen plenty of good teams come and go, and none of the really good ones have ended the season with a win in October. This team has come together unlike any other iteration I've ever seen, and a loss in October to end the season would be a big disappointment.
  3. I am peeking at game via ESPN Gamecast. Really glad I am not watching, looks unbearable.
  4. Playing the platoon splits, Walker has more success against righties by the tune of about 100 OPS. But in this case I woulda stuck with Durbin, who puts a better swing on heat and is more of a threat to do real damage. Until last week, 2025 was a tale of two seasons for the Brewers. Now it's starting to look like it might be at least three.
  5. Murph clearly thinks Durbin's growth as a player will be enhanced by sticking with the soft platoon for the time being. I am as frustrated as anyone by Seigler's limitations, but I also understand Murphy's approach. We will see his management of the third base situation a lot differently if, come October, we are looking at a fresh Durbin who is getting back to hitting the ball the way he was in July.
  6. Lots of self inflicted garbage in this game. Frelick's probably cost them a run, as did Lockridge.
  7. Crap. And definitely not the guy I was hoping to see take his place if he had to miss extended time.
  8. Sounds like a Mizz Rodriguez piggy back on Sunday. Better that than Miss Piggy, I suppose.
  9. Why only focus on the player's finances? What about the owners? Are they showing loyalty to the team or to the game when they pinch pennies and collude to keep salaries around the league artificially low? Adames had to make his own decisions, but had he chosen to give the Brewers a major home team discount, he would be doing a huge disservice to his fellow players by accepting a sub market contract that would invariably be used by other owners to their own advantage. I was happy for Adames that he got his--he earned every penny of it--and am quite confident most Brewer fans will give him a warm welcome tonight.
  10. Calling up Zamora to fill Joey's shoes (assuming he goes to 10 day IL) would require a 40 man roster move. If the absence is projected to be longer than two weeks that might make sense, but then who do you dump from the 40? Dunn? Berroa? Or have they seen enough of Easton McGee to feel comfortable jettisoning him? Hopefully the scan delivers better news and none of this matters.
  11. That was my question as well. Didn't get to watch it so have no idea if IL is a likely outcome, but since they cannot add a 14th pitcher my guess would be Tyler Black. He looked good in his limited opps in Cincy, and they don't have another MI on the 40.
  12. Good point, and the one bright spot from this otherwise forgettable day!
  13. Bunt success rates are actually up a tick since 2022, now close to 67% as compared to 60% back when pitchers got to hit. That's probably because they've now removed the worst offenders from the picture and only guys who are accomplished at it are asked to do it. My experience was limited, but I would rather try to lay down a bunt on a sweeping curve ball than on the high heat.
  14. I should have fact checked before responding. Turns out Andrew Monasterio DOES know how to bunt! 31 successful bunts in his professional career, 26 of em in the minors and 5 overseas, in his ten year career. So he can do it, he just didn't do it today. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=monast000and
  15. I don't disagree with the principle. My question is, how does a guy whose hit tools are substandard at this level get to this point without ever being asked to learn that craft? This is one example among so many of how the obsession with the long ball is happening to the detriment of the game. If Monestario, like so many thousands of mediocre hitters who came before him, were able to lay down a bunt, the Brewers are a heavy favorite to tie it up or take the lead in the 8th.
  16. Well I guess it doesn't matter since apparently nobody can hit the *&^% baseball today.
  17. Capra if he can bunt. Or Hoskins and then move him to first, Bauers to LF and Frelick to 3rd. Gotta capitalize with first and second and no outs.
