  1. I'm going to be out of pocket for at least the next hour, and am considering myself very lucky. Um Go K-Rod?
  2. I have a humiliating Augie story. I got there early for the 2d playoff game in 81 at Yankee Stadium and was out in the bleachers watching the pitchers warm out so I yelled out to Augie to throw a ball to the Brewer fan. So he did but then a kid went for it too and I didn't want to take it away from the kid so I pulled away and the kid did too since he was obviously throwing to me and it fell into the bullpen. Augie was talking to another player, pointed back towards us and gave a disgusted wave.
  3. Why are you mad at Roenicke? It looks we have a consensus that it's not about winning games anymore. It's about seeing what you've got. Hey I wonder if Maldonado is good at bunting. Let's find out here.
  4. I saw the clip. No reaction after Zack's HR and a cheer but inconclusive after Gomez's. You're right a Card fan would comment on the spread of a Wrigley Field atrocity. All cool.
  5. A little hard to tell on radio but it sounded afterwards like there was a delayed cheer like the ball got thrown back on the field. Hope I heard that wrong (or maybe I'm confusing it with one of the other 3 HRs) - we don't want to have to conclude that STL Fan has bad taste in friends . . .
  6. So maybe Melvin gave the order to pull Grienke, and maybe it's a good thing we're not playing to win (and obviously there's a gradation between it's the 7th game of the WS and it's spring training) and maybe Roenicke had lots and lots of good reasons, orders or otherwise, to do what he did but I think we all agree that he had an agenda other than being focused on winning the game. Winning the game may not have been 0% of his agenda but it was sure a lot less than 100%.
  7. Who was he supposed to put in? Every single guy in that bullpen has been a human gas can for awhile now. Roenicke has no reason to trust any pitcher in that horrific pen. Well pretty much what everyone else said. He wasn't supposed to put in anybody with Grienke at 87 pitches (11 in the 7th), 14 in a row and due up in th 9th. If the game meant anything to him he wouldn't have pulled Grienke. I think he must have been more interested in proving (to himself? to Melvin?) that the bullpen can't be trusted to get 6 outs with a 5 run lead, the lefty reliever can't pitch to lefties, Loe can't get a big out, and whatever else everyone else already knows. But it can't be that he thinks that what he did gave him the best chance to win the game.
  8. Just not a very good day for Braun. Up 3x with RISP and once w a guy on 1st and 3 Ks and weak fly. Maybe the Phillies will go 20 today.
  9. And there's an end. He was less dominant though! 4 runs in 3 games at GAB. That won't do it.
  10. "He can be had, though. He's been had!" says Ueck. 4 losses on the year! We can do this thing!
  11. Roenicke has been using Ax pretty well. Nice that they gave him an out too. Chapman can't be as dominant as he was Friday can he?
  12. Reds really helped Loe out with the sac - good job getting out of it.
  13. Great job by Fiers again. The Reds have had 2 RISP all game and shouldn't have had even those. Nice if he got off the hook at least.
  14. dude... Yeah Santana is melting down so it doesn't matter. But like I said I remember a lot of times it cost him.
  15. Sheets pops up a bunt with 1st and 2d 0 out in 0-0 game. That's the part I don't miss at all. Now a double only plates 1 ansd you have to worry about a productive out to get the guy in from 3d instead of focusing on the hit to get the guy in from 2d.
  16. Yes, Ueck said he talked to them and they had never seen an ejection made that quickly is how he/they put it.
  17. Lest we forget, Sheets pitched 9 shutout innings against the Angels, and the Brewers still lost the game in extra innings. http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=240608103 I'd love for Sheeter's career to have a 2nd act; especially since he hurt himself trying to match CC outing-for-outing back in '08. The Brewers won that one. The memorable cheese sandwich game.
  18. Ueck says it's a non-uniformed Brewer employee and suggested it was heat related.
  19. Turbo you are just quicker on the uptake than I am. It seems like every fan thinks their team has the worst manager in baseball. Pads fans thought Bochy was the worst; I saw a lot of Pads games without caring too much if they won or not and I thought he was fine. They fired him and the next guy was worse. There are situations where it is arguable either way and the manager gets it wrong and it is frustrating when they get it wrong more often than not but mostly it's just second guessing and it can get annoying when the criticism is relentless. But, the tipping point for me is when a manager gets it wrong, then does the exact same thing again when it is even clearer it's wrong. For Yost it was a game where he had a struggling Obermeuller bat with the bases loaded twice in the same game and both times he stranded the runners and then got bombed the next inning. The first time maybe you need to think about saving your bullpen but the second time you are deeper in the game with a guy who has already given up 6 or 8 runs so it's just stupid. Tonight is the Roenicke tipping point for me. Parra is tailormade for long stints in extras as long as he's on. Yes I can see pinchhitting for him in extras even though he's on, although it was the wrong spot to do it in that Giants game, but pulling him tonight when you've got a DH after a strong 9 pitch inning? Unless Parra goes on the DL tomorrow, no excuse. Based on what happened with Yost, Roenicke will be the manager for at least another year after it's completely clear he's incompetent. I've tried for months to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I can't do it anymore. So I have to be a turborickey disciple.
  20. Against the Giants a while back Parra pitched 2 good innings in extras then they pulled him for a pinch hitter with 2 outs and nobody on. I thought that was a mistake but at least you're pulling him for a hitter. Here there's a DH so no reason not to let Parra stay in indefinitely. And they pull him after a 9 pitch inning. Really unfathomable. I get tired of all the RR bashing but there's nothing you can say tonight. The Royals' first extra inning win all year.
  21. That was like the international rules tie-breaker in softball - let's put a runner on 2d with nobody out and see if they can score. Let's get this guy some runs/hits.
  22. When the only reason you're pitching is because Felipe Paulino can't start that says something. I think the walk-off to Prince was the last pitch Paulino threw as a Rockie.
