Oooops bases loaded and 2 out and walks in a run. But then gets the K. I have a friend who says he now realizes he will never be the world's most famous Michael Olmsted.
[Right but then in the post-game he pretended like he wasn't even trying to get Dekker in there (he was and the refs wouldn't let him in because it wasn't a shooting foul). It doesn't have to be a shooting foul - after the foul the ball is dead and the clock is stopped and that's all you need (except after a made basket in the last minute). So he must be right that he wasn't trying to get Dekker in there but I agree it wasn't because of not messing with Ryan's head etc.; I think he thought Berggren would be shooting.
Evans in at the end was clearly a screwup - you can see the team lining up to shoot the 1&1 so they were just confused. I have to think if Bo knew it was #6 and not 7 he would have subbed Evans out. Not giving the fouls late was fine - Hardaway was way out and guarded - who says they don't set up a better look on an inbounds play. Like he said to Dakich they weren't attacking.
ESPN yesterday was comparing Brust's shot to the last second 40'+ shots in the NBA over the last 5 years (2-64 or something). I'm thinking if they get the ball at midcourt after a TO, why are there 60+ midcourt last second shots?
Somebody once named the 2 greatest days of the sports year: when Duke is knocked out of the NCAAs and when the Yankees are knocked out of the playoffs.
Or those who decide to stop and wait for the rest of their friends directly in the middle of the flow of people walking, instead of taking 4 more steps to where no one is moving at all. Or those who stop as soon as they reach the terminal leaving the jetway, blocking everyone else coming off the plane.
Bob Scanlan doing color for the Pads mentioned that Parra looked like a guy who was just waiting to get beat. Said also that looking at the game logs Parra is either on or he's off - I think part of Parra's problem is that Roenicke always leaves him in too long when he's off (usually b/c he's playing the lefty lefty matchups) and pulls him too soon when he's on (like in a couple extra inning games early on).
Didn't get home until just now, heard bits and pieces on the radio including the 9th (walk up 2 boooooo, otherwise, yaaaaay). Thanks for getting it going Socal. Headley v Braun RBI duel needs to heat up.
