  1. I live in Waukesha, but have not traveled down Bluemound since the construction started. It does seem like it's the bridge over I-94 that they are working on right now and that should not effect exit 297 (since it empties east of the bridge - if you are going east bound off that exit). If you are taking bluemound to find a custard place, you could also exit at Hwy 100 and then take Bluemound east to Gillies (around 76th and Bluemound). It's been in Milwaukee for 70 years and is Bud's favorite place to eat! Someone mentioned Bluemound being quicker than the freeway. I'm not sure I agree with that. I come in from Waukesha and yes the freeway does backup sometimes when there is a Brewer Game. However, every time I have exited the freeway to take Blumound (thinking it would be quicker), I have been dissapointed with my decision.
  2. There's an extra innings HD channel? Hmm..Time Warner in Milwaukee doesn't offer it.
  3. I completely agree. Not to mention that the bucks draw what?...10K? 18K if they sell out? Now take 40K and try to imagine that parking situation. I'm guessing that my family would choose not to renew our season tickets and would probably go to less games. No thank you. When I leave a game I don't want to be stuck in a traffic mess for another hour or more.
  4. I don't remember what the cuttoff age was when I was a kid. However, most leagues now use May 1st as the cutoff date.
  5. I have Cable and I don't know that I understand your other question. It appears that if a program is on an HD channel (in the 500's on Time Warner), I can get "Wide Fit" to work if it's not an HD broadcast (i.e. the local news). However the FSN HD channel on Time Warner cable just shows color bars if the game is not telecast in HD (unlike the other channels that will still show the program in it's non-HD format). So, I'm guessing that the sattlite companies don't operate the same way and that Chilis is getting its signal through Dish or Direct TV.
  6. I was watching the Brewer Game. That's why it was vexing to me when I saw the Brewer Game at Chilis filling up the whole screen. (I came home, turned on the game and tried to see if I could figure out the setting. My picture size has 6 settings: 16:9, Zoom1, Zoom2, Wide Fit, 4:3, and Just Screen. Wide Fit and Just Screen are greyed out and not selectable.
  7. About 2 months ago I purchased a Samsung 46" LCD TV. They came set it up and told me the basic functions of the the remotes and left. I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff. Since I have had the TV, I have noticed for the most part that only programs in HD fill up the whole screen. I assumed this was normal. I have it set at 16:9. I was at Chilis for dinner tonight and they have some wide screen TV throughout the resturaunt with the Brewer Game on. It filled up the whole screen. I assumed since the game is not being telecast in HD tonight that they just had some wide screen setting set on it. However they did it, I liked how it looked. It didn't look stretched out to me at all. So when I got home I got my owner's instruction book out for my TV and played with the TV menu and found a function for "Wide Fit" in the picture settings. However, it's greyed out?? It won't let me select it. Any help anyone? Thanks.
  8. As much as I have fond memories of that day back in 1987, I would say Prince's HR yesterday was much more important from the psycological standpoint of the team and it's top slugger. If the HR in 1987 hadn't happened, they would have been 11-1 with no real worries at that point and time.
  9. I'm really going to endear my self to a lot of posters on this site who do this (I have probably done it once or twice myself, but I really try not to), but it really bothers me when people refer to a team they root for as we or us, as in: "We're going to win the World Series!" "We're not going to be able to win without Bret Favre" "The new seating in Miller park will give us more revenue" Sorry, you're not going to win, the Brewers are going to win. You're going to watch the Brewers win. I know, I know.....someone is going to argue that the fans are part of the team. Until I (we) start receiving a paycheck, I'll submit that they are not.
  10. Madtown. I guess you are more trusting than I am. If my own mother emailed me something along these lines, I would ask her where she got the information. Aren't you at least a little curious? Does your friend work for the Brewers? Is he a reporter? What is his source?. That's all I'm asking. I find it hard to believe he has this information that no news media seems to have. I don't think it's unusual to question this.
  11. I'm don't know if it makes more economic sense for the Brewers to stay in FL and I wouldn't expect them to make their decision based on what I think. I wish I had that kind of influence. However, I would suspect that if the Brewers had serious thoughts of moving to FL (which I question), that AZ would also make some interesting counteroffers to entice them to stay. Madtown, I know you didn't state that the Brewers WERE moving. I was making reference to CL55's post stating that most local residence think it's a "fore-gone conclusion". I would guess that any thoughts like that would be based on local news reports. I have not seen anything that would lead a rational thinking person to believe that it is a "fore-gone conclusion". I'm not sure why your friend would blow smoke at you. However, read the link you sent me (published 2 days ago in the Herald-Tribune): http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20080416/NEWS/804160754/1661 So, basically your friend is aware of scheduled Brewer visit, but the Sarasota stadium manager has not even heard from the Brewers, much less does he know about any pending visit. What is your friend's source of this news that has not been published anywhere else that I can see other than in an email he sent to you?
  12. What can I say. I didn't use Google. I went right to the local newpapers site (Herald-Tribune) and typed in Milwaukee Brewers at the top of the page on their search engine. Obviously, their search engine doesn't work to well. I didn't go through all the results, but I'm assuming they are listed in chronological order. Try it out...you'll see what I mean. I'm not in favor of the Brewers moving to FL, but that's not why I "want to dismiss it so badly". I just have not seen anything yet that leads me to believe they are moving and yet some of the posts here make it sound like it's a "done deal". Show me some article that states anything like that and I'll start to believe it. Madtown Bomber states, based on an email from a friend, that the Brewers are visiting FL in early May to look at possible sites. Yet, the links to articles that he posted are completely contrary to that. The first link from the Herald-Tribune that was published on April 16th pretty much states that they have not heard from the Brewers at all. The second link mentions that the Brewers are rumored to be looking, but are considered a long-shot to move to Sarasota. Only one of the other links mentions the Brewers at all. So, sorry if I'm sceptical, but this all seems like rumor and innuendo with out much evidence to back it up.
  13. I went to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune web site. I searched the archives for Milwaukee Brewers. It didn't come up with anything related to the Brewers possibly moving their ST operataions there. If it was a "fore gone conclusion" wouldn't the local papers have picked up on it by now?
  14. So, I'm guessing most of you didn't think the final scene in "A Christmas Story" was very funny either.
  15. I hate it when they "pre-pour" the cheese over the nachos, so that you can't even pick them up without getting cheese on your fingers. Just put the cheese on the side, I'll dip them in there myself, thank you.
  16. I got Villy too. I didn't even notice the part that mentioned what would happen if he was scheduled to pitch that day. That's ridiculous. I can't make that date anyways, so I was skimming the letter to find out what happens in that event. I could have sworn that I signed up to get Gallardo's autograph when I turned in my order form. I realize that it wasn't guaranteed that you would get who you signed up for, but I've been a season ticket holder for 15 years. Many of those were pretty bad years. You think they could at least try to give me the guy I signed up for. I also am not happy that they have apparently discontinued the "playing catch on the field" event that they use to do every year. Well, at least for 20 game packs they did.
  17. Ok - Zicam definitley not working this time. I feel horrible. My wife always urges me to go to the docter when I get a cold, which I think is ridiculous. Last time I had a cold, she convinced me to go to a walk in clinic. I hate the questions they ask. "What color is the discharge from your nose?" Huh? Does anyone really observe the color of their snot? I blow it in a Kleenix and throw it away. I don't study it.
  18. I felt the effects of a cold coming on last night and I started popping some Zicam. Zicam is one of those "medications" you are suppose to take at the onset of a cold to help reduce the severity and/or length of a cold. Maybe it's in my head, but since I discoverd it about 2 or 3 years ago, I use it whenever I feel a cold coming on and it seems to work pretty well. Not always, but most of the time. However, I would stay away from the Zicam Nasal Mist, there are stories of people losing there sense of taste after using that product. I have taken two Zicams today so far and my cold symptoms have not gotten any worse...in fact, I'm feeling a little better now than I did earlier today.
  19. Wow, this thread is very educational. Bruce Froeming never worked a Brewer game (other than the farewell game)? I did not know that!
  20. Hmmm, interesting. I never knew this. Does anyone know the reason behind this? Does it have anything to try to avoid gambling schemes? Or, is it for the safety of the Ump?
  21. We use to play that "Dollar Game". However, not with the "FOUL BALL" rule. Another game is that each person gets assigned a batter (we normally picked names from a hat). If a player gets a single or walk, everyone gives the "owner" of that player a quarter. For a double, it's $0.50; Triple - $0.75, HR - $1. This worked well for our fantasy league when the Brewers were in the AL (DH) and we had about 9 guys attending the game. Otherwise, if you have a smaller crowd, you have everyone pick two players.
  22. Well, I guess I'm in the minority then, although my wife is really not an avid baseball fan, but she loves sitting out on the outfield berm and soaking up the AZ sun. Also, both my wife and son love swimming. We usually stay at a place with a nice swimming pool. So, we leave the game around the 6th or 7th inning and then go do some swimming. Everyone is happy. AZ also has a very nice Zoo and I hear that Sedona is very beautiful. Besides that, most of the time K-12 have their spring break right around Easter, which a majority of the time falls in April. Most parents (not me) are reluctant to pull their kids from School with Spring break just around the corner. Colleges on the other hand, generally always have their spring breaks in March. FL is much more popular Spring Break destination for College kids than is AZ. I don't view throngs of drunken college spring-breakers as being "family friendly". At any rate, I'm not that concerned. I think all of this is just rumors and I don't see the Brewers leaving AZ. edit: Sonoma? Where did I get that from?
  23. Ok, I'll be the spokesman for AZ. Your looking for attractions outside of baseball? How about warmth and sunshine 95% of the time? Let's face it, your fans are coming to escape winter and watch some baseball. AZ provides the best conditions for doing that. People don't want to travel across the state in their rental car to see a game that is in danger of being rained out. Also, not sure if you noticed, but the general movement of teams lately is from FL to AZ and not vice-versa. That should tell you something right there. If you are not pleased with your current facility (although its a perfectly fine facility) and are looking for a shiny new one, I'm sure there are plenty of communities around the Phoenix area that would welcome you with open arms.
  24. Back in high school, my friends and I use to go to games and purposely state obviously wrong facts just to irritate the people around us. I know, it's childish, but looking back now, it was so much fun. For example, I remember going to the game where Rickey Henderson was about to break the season steals mark. We started annoying people while we were in line waiting for tickets. It went something like this: Me: "Wow, pretty good crowd tonight" My Friend - very matter of factly: "Yeah, Molitor is close to breaking the Brewers stolen base mark" Me - "Oh yeah, I forgot about that!" Guy in front of us turns around with a scowl on his face and shakes his head in disgust at our lack of knowledge, then turns back around. My friend and I bite out tongues trying not to burst out laughing like only immature teenagers can do. Ahhhh...good times.
  25. I will be really, really disappointed if they move to Florida. As someone who has been to Spring Training in AZ the last 6 years with my wife and my now 10 year old son, I'm not so sure about the "family friendly" statement. Yeah, there is the whole Disney and Universal thing, but you don't get nearly as many "spring breakers" in AZ. I don't really want to deal with that crowd. As I and others have mentioned in this thread as well...you are much more likely to have better weather in AZ than FL. AZ can be cooler at times and definitely is cooler in the morning and evening, but you rarely deal with any rain outs. If there is any truth to the possible move to FL, we will probably think twice about going to ST again.
