  1. I always think of the Miller Lite commercials when I here the name Boog Powell:
  2. Anyone ever apply to University of Minnesota, or have a son/daughter apply there? If so, do you recall the day of the week the accept/decline notice was sent out? If so, was it Sunday? My son applied there in August. They started processing applications in October. During the last two Sundays he has had friends who have received their replies (on Sunday) and they all applied in August. So, he's hoping to hear soon. Also, on their Application tracker it states something like "Please note that this tracker will be down every Sunday morning from 6am to 12pm for scheduled maintenance", which seems like it might be down each week at that time as they update the status of all the students who are getting replies. Just curious if anyone remembers anything like this and if my son should only expect to see updates to his status on Sundays.
  3. Very strange....of course can't help but immediately think of possible "shenanigans" by hackers. Probably not, but who knows?
  4. So, apparently my wife works with Scott Servais' brother. Pretty cool.
  5. Currently watching an example of how over the top HS sports can get. Watching the Muskego/Arrowhead game on Time Warner Sports. The QB for Muskego was hobbling around really badly after a play. It was a situation where in the NFL they would have immediately called a time out and trainers would have been out to take a look. Took forever for Muskego to call a time out. The coach came out. Trainer never came out and they ended up leaving the QB in the game even though he clearly was hurting. After two more downs they ended up kicking a field goal, but the QB then hobbled off the field. Will be very interesting to see if he stays in the game when Muskego gets the ball again. He clearly should not.
  6. If you are trying to save money by not having cable or satellite, then you have to realize that there are some programs and events that you will not be able to watch in the comfort of your home. You get what you pay for. That's the sacrifice of trying to save money. Maybe some day that will change, but for now that's reality.
  7. Not sure if anyone else saw that....but how do the announcers not say anything about the horrible call on Seager's check swing in the 7th and how do they not show that again??
  8. C'mon. I don't have this same "the media and everyone else is out to get us" mentality like many other Brewer fans seem to have. Seems like a general Wisconsin fan thing. Packer fans always seem to think the announcers or the refs hate the Packers and are pulling for the other team. I can take or leave bat flips. With that crazy 7th inning atmosphere and emotions, I completely get Bautista's bat flip and don't have an issue with it. However, in general, I'm more of a put your head down and circle the bases type of guy. I will say that I think media makes too much of bat flips sometimes. There was a short article on Yahoo the other day regarding one of the playoff games (I forget if it involved the Cubs or the Astros) and it had gifs highlighting two bat flips. I didn't think they were bat flips. Just because a player doesn't place his bat down or immediately drop it, doesn't mean it's a "bat flip".
  9. Regardless of how anyone feels about that play, it sure makes tonight's game pretty much a must see if you are a baseball fan, especially since it's being played in NY. I wouldn't want to be Seager on a close play at 2nd. Do you think they will be on a "auto-eject" mode regarding any bean balls?
  10. Golf is a killer HS sport in regards to missing time from school. My son played golf his Freshman - Junior year. Last year, as a Junior, he bounced back and forth between Varsity and Varsity reserve matches. He missed a lot of classes. I don't think he is planning on playing this year (his Senior year) because he has a business internship job through the HS and it would be very hard to avoid conflicts with that job if he played golf. He get's good grades, but his 2nd semester grades are always a notch lower and I'm sure that golf and then baseball (which start mid-May at his school) did not help that cause. One thing I also noticed with baseball (not sure if this happens in other sports), but there seems to be some players that make their college decision based on where they can make the baseball team. My son is friends with a kid who graduated last year and is playing baseball at a very small college in the suburbs of Chicago. He has told my son that he would probably have no problems making the team at this school if he went there. The school would not be a good fit for my son and what he wants to do and would be a definite downgrade compared to other colleges that he is considering (some that don't not have a baseball team or that have a team at a level where my son would not make the cut). Luckily, even though my son is pretty passionate about baseball, he is level headed and realizes that that the academic college choice is more important. I can understand if you are a D1 or top D3 type player and have a choice of different quality colleges to attend based on baseball (or any other sport).
  11. How stupid can you be. Arrieta hits the guy with a curve ball, 4 run lead, already a guy on base...clearly unintentional. I agree with the announcer though...Arrieta should have taken a quick jog to 1st as if to say "Ok, whatever, thanks for the free base idiot"
  12. I guess I have not always paid attention to how draft position is determined in baseball. Looks like the Brewers finished tied for 5th worst record so it makes sense that they would get the 5th draft pick, as pointed out in this thread. Maybe I'm mistaken, but didn't the picks use to alternate between leagues, so that if you finished with the 5th overall worse record in baseball that did not mean that you would necessarily pick fifth? For example, there were no teams in the AL that had a worse record than the Brewers this year so under how I somehow remember how the draft use to work, the Brewers would get the 9th or 10th pick (because picks would have to alternate between leagues). Is my memory just bad? If not, when did this change? Edit: From what I can tell by looking back at previous year draft results, it appears that my memory is correct and that this process changed in 2005. Guess I should have looked at that before posing the question.
  13. I guess I'm not sure why winning the division is more important than overall record. The division you are in and the competition you have to face is luck of the draw based on your geographical location. Again, I believe that both Chicago and Pittsburgh could make strong arguments that they are better teams than NY or LA and that if they happened to be in either of those divisions they would have won that division. For example, lets look at the AL in 1984. KC won their division with a .519 winning percentage. Is that really an accomplishment that deserves a playoff spot? There were 4 teams in the AL East that year that had better records than KC and did not make the playoffs. Even under the current system, Baltimore that year would not have made the playoffs despite having a better record (and probably tougher schedule) than KC...and Boston and NY (with better records than KC) would have been forced to a 1 game playoff (similar to Chicago and Pittsburgh this year). To me, W-L record trumps place in the standings.
  14. I'm not saying it's not "better than nothing". I'm saying I don't think it's better than the previous playoff plan with one wild card team and 4 teams total. Under the old wild card system (with 4 teams making the playoffs in each league), the Brewers still would have qualified in 1987 and 92, not to mention 78,79, and 80. In 88 they were tied for 5th best record, so they still would have had a one game playoff with Toronto (or other tiebreaker?) under the current system. I don't think adding one team to the playoffs was worth the trade-off of having a 1 game playoff after a 162 game season. I think I might be a little more for the current format of 5 teams in the playoffs and a one game playoff if they did away with divisions and the 5 best records went to the playoffs. So, NY and LA would be playing each other in the one game playoff and not Pittsburgh and Chicago which both have considerably better records than NY and LA.
  15. This year is a good example of why I really do not like the wild card 1 game "playoff". Pittsburgh currently boasts a .604 winning percentage playing in the toughest division in the NL (maybe all of baseball) and will end up with between 96-99 wins. Their current record is 7 games better than L.A. and N.Y. (division winners in the East and West). Yet, they lose one game and they are out? There should never be a one game playoff in baseball with the possible exception of a year end tie-breaker.
  16. Lawn sweepers are much more efficient. And much quieter. I actually have one of those that I purchased about 15 years ago. Tried it one or two years and have not used it since I would not agree with your "more efficient" comment at all. It fills up very quickly and has to be continuously emptied. We have two small electric (plug in) leaf blowers that are not that loud and work beautifully. The only issue I have with leaf blowers is on windy days they can be hard to work with (if you are not blowing the leaves in the same direction as the wind). Pretty much everyone in our neighborhood uses leaf blowers to clear their lawns (or patios or driveways, etc). It's clearly the most practical and efficient way to get the job done.
  17. That's how I feel about raking leaves in general. Just go over them when you cut lawn and leave them there. Let nature take it's course over winter and deal with it in spring. I'm guessing that neither of you have ever lived in a house with a yard with several trees. If we did not collect the leaves into a pile, there would literally be two inches of leaves covering our lawn that a lawn mower (mulching or not) would not take care of (..and deal with in the spring? Why not just deal with it in the Fall..what's the difference?). Also, you don't just blow the leaves and let them sit to get blown around again by the wind. You collect them into a pile with the leaf blower..much easier than raking them (again, trust me, if you had to deal with several trees, you would understand). Then transfer them to the curb (yes, this step might require a little raking to a tarp), where they get picked up by the city (not all municipalities allow burning of leaves).
  18. That's crazy. Never heard of the guy. I'm not understanding why they are calling him an electrical engineer at about 1:10 in the video I posted. Is the guy an electrical engineer and a comedian or is that some attempt at humor (calling him an "electrical engineer"), that I am not getting.
  19. Ok, this is a pretty cool trick, and I'm also wondering if Tom Wrigglesworth (the Electrical Engineer with the funky hair) is some distant relative of Aaron Rodgers. https://www.yahoo.com/makers/boost-your-car-key-fob-1266803298607158.html
  20. Not sure where you sit, but if you can swing getting a seat in one of the sections in front of the press box (216,217,218), you'll catch most of that stuff. I do agree with you in regards to all the between innings "hoopla". I understand that they are trying to appeal to the casual fan, but it still can be a little annoying at times. In regards to changes to speed up the game. As per your response back to them, it does seem like they do not always enforce these new rules. The one about not allowing players to step out of the box between pitches has pretty much been ignored since the first game of the season. I know not all fans were in agreement with those rule changes, but I still think if you are going to make rules, then those rules should be followed. Otherwise, what's the point? Has there been any report of average game times this year and if there has been any significant improvement over previous years?
  21. Ahh..you may be correct. I knew that it was in LF and involved Oglivie in some manner. I want to say that the guy was wearing a white sweater (I'm going to have to dig up the paper when I get home).
  22. And apparently I'm not the only person to feel that way, as they have new commercials - in which Col. Sanders is being played by 51-year-old Norm McDonald - that make fun of these old commercials. You may want to test your commercials before you air them. That's what your consumer insights/marketing research department is for. Norm McDonald is awesome. I like those commercials. Also, as someone else stated, Darryl Hammond is 59 (not 30). I prefer these commercials over some attempt to use an "age-appropriate" Col. Sanders look alike (who everyone would know was not the original Col. Sanders anyways).
  23. I thought he was hurt by a liner in Game 7..... I remember getting reprimanded by my parents for rejoicing that he was hurt. Nope. Game 3. I was there. LF Bleachers Section C Row 1 Seat 3. Willie McGee (!?!?!?) hit 2 dingers. Broke my heart. We were not far from you. Left Center...a little farther up. Wasn't there some fan interference controversy with one of those McGee HR's? That wasn't you, was it? I think I still have the paper from that game with the picture of the fan reaching out to catch the ball.
  24. This story may seem a little insensitive right now, but please keep in mind that it happened 33 years ago and I was 16 years old. This is the first thing that came to my mind when I read about the passing of Joaquin Andujar.... It was the 1982 World Series and my buddies and I were lucky enough to have bleacher tix for all the home games (got selected out of the ticket lottery..$8.00 face per ticket!!). The always formidable Andujar was on the mound for the Cards. A liner was hit back up the box and struck him squarely and he fell to the ground (or at least that is how I remember it). My friends and I started shouting "Joaquin is dead! Joaquin is dead!" The lady behind us, even though she was a Brewer fan, was not thrilled with our immature antics and said to us in a very snarky tone.."Is Joaquin dead?" ...we looked at each other, cracked up, and continued with our shouting.
