  1. I'm not sure who that is, but I'm fairly sure it's not Braun based on his height. I would guess that Melvin is not taller than Braun.
  2. I'm glad to see that most of these players offer up a signed bat. I think that is the least they can do to show their appreciation. If the player didn't offer one, I would suggest that it would make me happy to get one. If the player still refused, I'm not sure I would hold back the ball, but I would think of him as kind of "jerkish". A signed bat is really nothing to these guys even if they are making league minimum. I do have to say that if it was a big milestone of baseball historical significance and I knew I could get some good money on the open market for the ball, then I would hold out for a bit more (Ok..maybe more than "a bit"). I guess I'm just a little more of a capitalist that others. Usually a player that is involved in such a historical feat is making some good money. If the ball is that important to the player, they should be willing to "compensate" the ball's owner (yes, that fan is the owner) in a manner that shows it.
  3. Is that Axford as Elwood Blues?
  4. Thanks. I'm guessing I could not find it yesterday because I was just looking for some link that stated "All Start voting results" or something like that. It would be much easier to find if they did that instead of putting it at the bottom of an article about all start voting.
  5. So, where can you find these results online?? Yesterday, I got an email from the Brewers stating Braun was in 3rd and urging me to vote. I was interested in seeing all the current results. The email just gave me a link to A) the voting ballot and B) the Brewers home page. I then found a link to the All Star home page which did not have any current results or link to current results that I could find. Why do they make the current results so hard to find?? Looks like PrinceEatMeat basically posted a picture of a hard copy of the current results (where did you get those from?). Are these not online anywhere? If so, why not?
  6. Wow, that's a great story! Maybe one day we will be saying, remember when dkl9s use to post on this site...before he got famous...
  7. Now Lucroy has a bruised hand? When and how did this happen?
  8. Yeah, I thought the same thing....now it appears he may have pulled something....geez
  9. I hope the guys that are sitting on the backrests 3 or 4 rows behind banana man know the people behind him. That would really annoy me if I was sitting behind them.
  10. Moved my seats to the family section years ago because of experiences similar to those described in this thread.
  11. That looks extremely interesting. Definitely something that I would want to see. I wonder why PBS would not want to pick that up?
  12. The minor league minimum salary is $86,473? Is that just AAA, or is that all levels? This information is a bit old, I'm not sure what's different pay wise in the new CBA, but here's an excerpt from a 2010 story on minor league, but at the time players in A ball were getting paid below the poverty level. Playing For Peanuts Not trying to take this thread in a completely different direction...but where do you get the "below poverty level" information from? According to that "old" information the minimum a player could make in the minors is $32,000 (and I'm assuming the new CBA raised that amount). If that's considered "below poverty", the whoever is in charge of defining what "poverty" is does not have a grasp of reality.

  14. Yeah, I think that contract will end up going down as one of the worst, most franchise crippling contracts in MLB history. It makes Molina's $15mil/yr. look like a bargain.
  15. Hope so, that would be great (if the prices were similar). I'm not far from there myself.
  16. Some people have been asking about the story behind the "ICE MAN" and the responses have been mostly about him being voted most popular vendor. I don't really know him personally, but I'll give a little more information. If you have ever been to Miller Park, especially on the 2nd level by home plate and the 1st base line, he is the vendor who is very loud and enthusiastic. He yells things like.."The Ice Man is here" and "Free shivers!" or just "Yooooooo!" He also spends his March's vending beer at Maryvale. We were at the first game and he came out and talked with people in line. I can't speak for his actions in regards to selling his own bobble head (if that's even true), but he seems like a genuinely nice guy who is enjoying his minor fame among Brewer fans.
  17. $10 - Must pick it up sometime between 8am -4pm, Tuesday-Friday, at the Milwaukee Center downtown. The Milwaukee Center is the building where the Intercontinental hotel is located. It's at 111 E. Kilbourn.
  18. Was that a Phoenix Suns logo on the elbow brace that Braun has on? (It showed after he slid into 2nd and adjusted his pants).
  19. I'm probably not remembering this correctly. However, are the umpires still unionized. I thought MLB "broke" the union when the umpires went on strike several years ago?
  20. The reason I remember it so well (other than the significance of the streak), is that I was in college and I was taking a hot date to the game (a girl I had been after since High School). It rained all day and I spent most of the day watching the radar chanel on cable (remember when they had that?) praying that it would stop and that they would play. The crowd for that game was not what it should have been because of the lousy weather that day.
  21. I was at that game that ended Molitor's streak. I can't remember if I booed Manning, but I remember everything else about that day including the weather.
  22. Isn't it just logical to expect more from people who make millions of dollars? I'm not sure why that is considered being bitter or being a perfectionist? So, after paying $30 for my ticket and $10 for parking and another $10 for food and beverage, I'm suppose to applaud a multi millionaire for hustling?? I'll aplaud the triple for what it means to the Brewers chances of winning, not because the MLB player that hit it hustled. Isn't he supposed to do that? If it was a rookie making the minimum who forgot the number of outs, would you not care as much because he's only making $250,000 or whatever? Probably not. It was a dumb mistake but it happens and salary shouldn't matter at all. Yes, I would still be upset. I beleive the minimum salary is around $500M now. But, truthfully, I would not be as upset. People seem to be really sensitive about this whole salary thing. I don't get it. Really? You don't expect more out of people who make more money? Isn't it only logical to expect there to be more mistakes from someone who is less experienced and does not make as much money? Really it's the nature of this particular mistake that gets to me. Getting picked off base can be a mental mistake, but it also can be an act of just trying to be to aggresive, so I'm a little more tolerable of that type of mistake. Same with throwing to a wrong base. However, think about what forgetting how many outs there are means. You are on 2nd base. You have to be thinking what happens when the ball is hit. Do I tag up? Do I go half way? Do I just go? Am I in a force out situation? etc. In order to make these decisions, you have to know how many outs there are. It's the most important thing you need to know. If you are unsure you have an umpire nearby that can tell you. You have a half a dozen score boards that post the number of outs. You have a 3rd base coach. Does this stuff happen? Sure, but that does not mean that it's not stupid, moronic, and inexcusable. As a professional ball player, how do you not know how many outs there are? The only conclusion I can come to is that your head is not in the game, and to me, that is disrespectful of your teammates, coaches, the fans, and the game. By the way, someone mentioned that he probably got talked to about it in the dugout or after the game. In this day in age I highly doubt it.

  24. When you guarantee someone $36,000,000, you hope major mental errors are at a minimum. I know athletes operate in a different reality, but "in the real world" if someone who makes $12MM/year has a major mental error, there are usually serious repercussions, like a company going belly-up. That's why it's hard to bring "the real world" into athletics. As far as Ramirez, as I mentioned earlier, he is kind of known for not being a real "heady" player and Melvin chose to sign him to a big deal. Melvin knew what he was getting when he signed Ramirez, so hopefully Ramirez posts a .900+ OPS season to make us dismiss the less appealing aspects of his game. Exactly! I'm just always surprised at the Blase attitude that many posters on brewerfan have towards the incredibly high salaries of MLB players and their low expectations of these same players.
