  1. I agree, the two ladder matches were great, as usual, and the Uso-Wyatt match was fantastic. Luke Harper/Brodie Lee is an amazing talent, and I'm curious to see if and how they decide to push him when he transitions to being singles competitor. The rest of the PPV was middling to terrible. The Divas title match was good, except that for going on 3-4 years now, WWE has given no reason for us to care about the women's division. Watching NXT (case in point the Natty/Charlotte match from Takeover) and the effect Sara del Ray has had down there gives me hope for the future, but early returns on Emma and Paige have left something to be desired. I sort of like the Goldust and Stardust team, as Cody seems to really get into whatever role creative has for him in a particular month, but their match with RybAxel was completely forgettable. Mostly because of RybAxel. Matching red hats? Rusev and Big E worked hard, but no one seems to care about hating on Russia, and even E's big dive through the ropes doesn't pop the crowd like it did the first few times. I can't believe they're wasting Big E like they are. Let him go back to doing his 5-count gimmick that was so effective in NXT. The Fandango/diva match was embarassing, though the "Fandango loves triangles" thing was pretty funny. The former Johnny Curtis gets into his role, at least.
  2. Considering that Baseball America's position is based on the opinions of a number of scouts, and that Kiley McDaniel is a scout himself, yes I would say that a majority of scouts whose position on the issue is available would seem to be disinclined to project Lara as a shortstop.
  3. Andy Hillis making his 2014 debut in Arizona tonight. Good to see the big guy back. Devin Williams with the best outing of his pro career so far tonight in Billings.
  4. Kiley McDaniel: MLB.com: Baseball America: Baseball America a few weeks later: Baseball America yet again: That thing you quoted, from a Toronto Blue Jays fan blog: So basically, we have Baseball America sourcing scouts saying he can't play shortstop, Kiley McDaniel not even providing it as an option, MLB.com hazy at best about the prospect, and some Blue Jays blog saying he looks like Curtis Granderson on the infield, but he's certainly no either. You are, of course, free to draw your own conclusions, but to me Baseball America and Kiley McDaniel hold more water than the grammar-impaired Breaking Blue.
  5. No Harrison or Gatewood for Maryvale tonight. Sad face. And Brandon Diaz, holy smokes.
  6. You could make an argument for Reed or Orf being bumped up I guess, but Taylor and Roache need to stay put. And it's not like Wisconsin OFs are banging down the door to get promoted to BC, either. Unlike signing Dillard, this is a mostly harmless move. To me at least.
  7. There are about 10 pitchers who could be bumped up from Brevard to Huntsville, but the pickings are much slimmer for hitters. He's not ancient, either, as Komatsu's only about 8-9 months older than Kentrail Davis and D'Vo.
  8. Keith Law thinks Lara is a terrible pitcher, and an unnecessary risk.
  9. The narrative of Lara's defense keeps shifting further down the defensive spectrum. By next month he may be a DH.
  10. That's because you were/are. The Brewers have not clinched anything other than not losing 116 games this year.
  11. The Vaudevillians were great (the one handed pushups Gotch was doing on Dawkins were hilarious), but I worry that their gimmick is one of those that works great on NXT in the small arena, but won't translate well to the big arenas Raw/Smackdown are recorded in, much like Adam Rose. (Actually, the guy who does the Simon Gotch character was in Rose's entourage dressed up sort of like Waldo.) Even with Mojo Rawley, NXT is still the best wrestling week in and week out on TV, and the only show I go out of my way to watch.
  12. The scouting consensus seems to be that Lara will not stick at shortstop, and I've seen corner outfield mentioned more often than third base recently.
  13. Nelson good again tonight, though he did manage to give up home run numbers two and three on the year with the bossmen in attendance. Replace Estrada, Jimmy, don't emulate.
  14. Gomez was one of the Brewers' more high profile international signings before inking Mallen and Pierre last year. IIRC, he got a six figure bonus.
  15. With Eric Williams playing 1B tonight (all 5'10 of him), the Brewers have five 19 year old starters in the lineup (also Neuhaus, Aviles, Rubio, and Diaz). That's pretty young, even by Pioneer League standards, and especially for the Brewers.
  16. The episode about The Wall was awesome - once I saw Kit Harrington as the first-billed actor and Neil Marshall directing, I knew we were pretty much going to get Blackwater Part 2, and it delivered. The finale was kind of a let-down, much like season 3's. Interested to see where The Mountain thing goes, though. I'm still bummed about Oberyn. I am a recent convert to the show and haven't read the books, so it is going to be a long wait until next year.
  17. The Brewers usually seem to get their Puerto Rican picks signed so I'm not too worried about Oquendo, and as Yamamoto seems to be about signed, I'm interested to see if they can get one or two of Onyshko, White, Tackett, Ramirez, or Chester in the fold.
  18. 27th rounder Matt Martin and 34th rounder Carlos Leal have signed per the Brewers.
  19. If you don't like college arms who project as relievers, steer clear of the Twins' draft. Wow.
  20. Patrick, is DeMuth's game refined enough to go straight to Wisconsin?
  21. The idea of trading him to Pittsburgh for Wang is good one, though we would obviously need to add a bit (maybe quite a bit) more to the pot. I'm guessing that the Brewers find a way to keep him. They could re-do his contract to pay him more to stay in AAA for the time being, and maybe extend his opt-out date.
  22. Atencio also was the backstop for the first time after DHing the first two games. Good to see his wrist injury apparently healing.
