  1. AZL Brewers starter Maverick Lasker matches up against... wait for it... Takashi Saito! Tyrone Taylor is back for the second game of the doubleheader. And on cue, doubles in his first plate appearance.
  2. According to Ken Rosenthal, expect the White Sox to express some interest in Greinke. Problem is, their farm system is pretty much flat worthless and it doesn't make sense for them to trade away major league pieces.
  3. I thought that only applied to seniors with college eligibility left? Maybe not.
  4. Anderson could just wait until after the deadline and sign with a team of his choice - maybe that's more valuable to him than a few grand? Or maybe he saw the sun coming through the panels on the first base line and thought, "I could never play left field here."
  5. TLB, check out Evan Anundsen's June 3rd start as an example.
  6. The FanGraphs article mentions Ariel Pena, a player that the Brewers would surely have some interest in. He's similar in a lot of ways to Jimmy Nelson, though his sinker isn't quite as sinky. If the Angels called with Segura, Cowart, Pena and a nugget like A.J. Schugel, the Brewers would have to listen. Personally, I wouldn't be interested in Cron as part of the package. He has big time power, but he's limited to first base where he's defensively just adequate, he's slow as hell, and his plate discipline in pro ball has been lacking for such an advanced college hitter. And FWIW, if Baltimore isn't including Machado, I wouldn't deal with them. I'd rather have the draft picks and an outside chance at extending Greinke than Schoop/Delmonico and whichever MLB-failed pitcher they throw at us.
  7. Yes. It's also true with rain-shortened games. If the game is 7 innings and you pitched 7 innings, you pitched the whole game and get credit for it.
  8. Thornburg threw 136.2 innings last year in 24 starts, and that's his career high mark. That's after ~110 innings the year before. As such, you'd guess the Brewers would want to keep his innings to around 160. He's only at 85.1 right now, but they may have plans to pitch him in the AFL after the season.
  9. JB12, you seem to think that I'm arguing a point with you... I'm not. I'm not sure why you're belaboring this. The Brewers may have Burgos slated for 170-180 innings this year - that wouldn't shock me at all. Like I said, he pitched 137 innings a few years ago. They usually bump guys up 20-30 innings per year. With a fair amount of low stress innings, they may push him beyond 30 a little. They sort of did this with Anundsen a few years back (and then two years later he missed year and a half due to injury - surprise!). Assuming he makes all his remaining starts for Huntsville and averages 6 innings a start, there's 170 innings right there. That's why they're limiting his innings a little now, so that they'll be able to control when he gets to that mark. In the AFL. In Milwaukee. In Lesotho. Wherever. I don't care about that part. Oh, and Chris Sale pitched 113 innings two years ago, significantly more than the 71 IP number you provided.
  10. Regardless of how many theoretical innings Burgos has pitched based on some sort of pitch ratio, he's still going to be running up against an inning limit. He has at least 10 starts left with the Stars, plus any additional assignment after that.
  11. After tonight's start, Burgos is about 10 innings away from the most he's pitched in a season as a pro - 119.2 last year. He pitched 137 innings between Bethune-Cookman and Helena in 2009. He could be running up against an inning limit before the end of the season, especially if the Brewers plan on pitching him in the AFL.
  12. The Baby Brewers' first inning would have broken a 118 year old major league record for runs scored in an inning. If, you know, they played in the major leagues. AZL Brewers Top of the 1st Tyrone Taylor doubles (3) on a ground ball to left fielder Jerrell Allen. Clint Coulter singles on a ground ball to right fielder Alexis Rivera. Tyrone Taylor to 3rd. Jalen Harris walks. Clint Coulter to 3rd. Jose Pena to 2nd. Alan Sharkey flies out to center fielder Alfredo Escalera-Maldonado.
  13. He actually pitched 2/3 of an inning in one of those blowout AZL games. Kind of odd that that was his only action thus far.
  14. A few thoughts... Clint Coulter appears to be overmatched right now. It's been years since we've seen a 1st rounder get off to a great start. Taylor Jungmann's K/9 is reaching Suppanish levels. I understand that a guy who gets a lot of groundballs doesn't need a ton of Ks, but this is a guy who was a big time college pitcher, pitching in A-ball, apparently without an out pitch? I do like Chad Thompson. At what point do we start paying a lot of attention to Jose Pena? At what point does Jason Rogers get bumped to AA? He's Burgosed out with the Manatees already. He could rotate between 1B/LF/DH in the Stars lineup without upsetting the applecart too much. And not that it's a great applecart to begin with. I'd like to see what Michael Garza could do in Appleton. Macias and/or Hopkins wouldn't be hurt with promotions.
  15. A smattering of the Helena Brewers now have Helena player photos available. I imagine more will be coming in the following day or two. View Eric Semmelhack, bask in Alfredo Rodriguez.
  16. My favorite thing about Jason Rogers is that he's 8-8 in stolen base attempts this year and 19-24 in his career. Big man can run. Must be Carlos Lee fast.
  17. I'm puzzled that some people think that Mike Olt isn't a really good prospect. He strikes out a fair bit, but he also walks a lot, has more than enough power, and is a plus defender at third to boot. Even if he only hits .250 and strikes out 180 times a year, he'll have a ton of cost controlled value.
  18. I'd prefer to hear that the Brewers were scouting Olt or Profar, but those guys (especially Profar) are probably too high up the food chain for half a season of Greinke. Or maybe they want Guilder Rodriguez back. Guilder Rodriguez!
  19. This is actually incorrect. Rodriguez replaced Kevin Berard, who injured either his knee or ankle chasing a pop fly into the bullpen in foul territory. Berard had to be assisted off the field.
  20. Jed Bradley pitched really well and Joey Paciorek stole home in the second game of the tripleheader. Game sure is unpredictable, yah?
  21. The AZL Brewers have a team ERA of 15.35 after 4 games. Team WHIP is 3.21. That's almost impossible.
  22. I gotta wonder if the the AZL Brewers pitchers are working on something really specific - like only throwing fastballs, or only throwing change-ups or something else wacky. That's the only explanation I can think of for this bizarrely terrible start to the season. 8-1 now after the top of the third.
  23. Through 2 and 2/3 games, the Maryvale squad has been outscored 41-4.
