  1. The Brewers have signed 18th round pick SS Chris McFarland for about $315K, plus school. Edit: Confirmed by Jim Callis.
  2. That many assists doesn't suggest anything. Players get lots of outfield assists for two very different reasons: Their arm isn't that good, and guys run on them all the time to test it. It's why Carlos Lee is regularly among league leaders in OF assists. Nyjer Morgan had 13 a few years ago.Their arm is exceptional, and guys keep getting cutdown being overzealous on the basepaths. Aka, Jeff Francoeur. Schafer is closer to Morgan than Francoeur.
  3. Green committed a throwing error in the top half of the third inning, didn't bat in the bottom half, and then was pulled before the 4th began. I'm not watching, so I don't know more than that. Hopefully wasn't pulled for error or wasn't injured, resulting in the error.
  4. I get the reference, but I can't type the reference without having to ban myself for inappropriate language.
  5. Ramirez signed for $213,300, which was recommended slot value. Michael Reed, the fifth round pick and second position player taken, signed for $500K. Slot there was $154,800. Reed is a much better prospect than Cain, or Ramirez.
  6. I think people are way misunderstanding that tweet. Teams have until 11pm CDT on Monday to sign the picks. Signing them tomorrow instead of today is not an epic failure. Unless another Covey-ish thing comes up, they will be signed. On Monday.
  7. I know you're just trying to bait people, but at least look these things up before you post them. There are 16 players in AAA hitting .300 or better with an OBP of .400 or better, and a few of those guys have been promoted recently, so you'd have about a dime.
  8. Should be back Saturday. Out for precautionary measures.
  9. He'd forfeit $22.6M.
  10. He won't be on Brevard's active roster until at least tomorrow, so this isn't "officially official" yet.
  11. If the Brewers are planning to have Scarpetta pitch in the Arizona Fall League as a starter, they may be trying to conserve a few innings now. Just my guess.
  12. It was not. Neda suffered a hand injury around the same time as his last AZL appearance.
  13. Recently signed RHP Mark Williams has been assigned to the Helena Brewers. 36th round RHP Mitch Conner, former teammate of Wisconsin RHP Dan Britt at Elon University, has been promoted past Britt from the AZL to Brevard County.
  14. Mallex Smith has passed over Florida State to commit to Santa Fe JC in Gainsville. This means that he'll be eligible to be drafted next year if he doesn't sign with the Brewers. I'd actually take this as a good sign for the Brewers, and I read that someone thought he was "dead set" on going pro. Cain has been absent from the baseball circuit this summer. Don't know what's going on with him. He should have been a relatively easy sign.
  15. MNBrew, those are the effects of the rule, but I believe mtrebs' question was why is the rule there in the first place? It's a good question. As far as I know, baseball is the only pro sport that changes the active roster size intra-season. Now someone will correct me on that, I'm sure.
  16. The minor league seasons ends before the major league season, so it's a way to let those guys keep playing for another month. You're right, though, it is a very odd concept. I'd be in favor of expanding rosters from 25 to 27 all year, or having a taxi squad-type thing, and ditching the September call-up rule.
  17. No. He was moved to the 60-day DL on 7/30. A 40-man spot will (probably) be cleared by 9/1 when the Mets select their PTBNLs.
  18. http://images.yuku.com.s3.amazonaws.com/image/jpeg/68e354d545cf9162d116947b2782e984466b393.jpg
  19. Apparently on WTMJ this morning, Doug Melvin said that they're going to go with Estrada in the rotation. Doesn't make much sense to me, but not that big of a deal either.
  20. Post of the week. http://images.yuku.com/image/gif/fb425bc4f991ad779fd211b1a835ecc4f0a3e80.gif
  21. No. Only 9 of the first 33 picks have signed. And only 2 of them were selected before Jungmann and Bradley. Both will be signed in the next 3-5 days.
  22. Fact: a baseball game has only ended on catcher's interference once since 1950. Box.
  23. Brewers up to 81.8%. Cardinals drop almost 10% down to 26.6% FWIW, the BP has the Brewers' playoff percentage higher than fellow division leaders Texas (81.5%) and Detroit (65.6%).
  24. Just off the top of my head, the rotation should be something like Bradley, Gagnon, Strong, Toledo, Moye. Depending on how fast they push Bradley and Gagnon (and Jungmann). Bullpen should have Barnes, Albury, Conner, Cravy and Keeling, plus potentially Goforth, Jones and Shackleford. That's a good staff, even if it might not stay together all that long. Offense might be another story, unless they push some of the younger guys like Reed, Berard and Garcia. Rivera, Walla and Dishon should be fun to watch, along with whichever young catcher (or catchers) makes it there.
