  1. How do you possibly know this?I don't know this - that's why I said "it seems." It seems that way because of his lengthy no-trade list, his quick re-sign after the end of last season and how he dealt with being taken out of the closer's role earlier this year. He seems to genuinely like being here. Therefore, it seems to me that Hoffman would just assume not be traded. I'd be happy to be wrong, though. We certainly don't need him.
  2. For better or worse, they seem to like his veteran influence on the rest of the pen. Also, they have the list of teams he doesn't want to be traded to. If the White Sox are on that list, why bother following through on it? It seems to me that Hoffman would just assume not be traded.
  3. I would be shocked if the Brewers wanted to trade Hoffman, and even they did, I would be shocked if Hoffman would accept a trade to Chicago. According to Cot's, he has no-trade protection to a list of 25 teams. The odds of the ChiSox not being on that list are small.
  4. Phenomenal name, BTW.
  5. My guess is the Brewers' plan for Odorizzi is to have him start out next year in Brevard, promote him a little before midseason to Huntsville and then have him earn his way into Milwaukee sometime in 2012.
  6. Tangotiger has his 2010 scouting report ballots ready to roll - it's a fun exercise to see how you quantify your views on the Brewers players individual efforts on defense. I don't want to spoil anything, but George Kottaras is not regarded as the best defender the Brewers have right now.
  7. In an article about missing out on trading Prince Fielder, Ken Rosenthal notes that: They could trade second baseman Rickie Weeks, who has chosen Greg Genske as his new agent and — like Fielder — is eligible for free agency after next season. Weeks was more likely to sign a club-friendly extension under his previous agent, Lon Babby, who recently became team president of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns. Now that Weeks has a new agent, we can hope for some extension chatter in the near future.
  8. You should photoshop it so it looks like the giant parrot is chasing the whale.
  9. Gamel is going to receive playing (and practice) time at all three positions for the remainder of the year. He was never "moved" to 1B or RF.
  10. Have you received any indications about your clients being called up on 9/1 or do the teams usually play it close to the vest?
  11. I was about as big a Parra supporter as any going into the season, and then again when he was put into the rotation for the last time, but looking at the last few starts and his whole career in totality, I too am beginning to feel like it might be the end of the line for his time in the Milwaukee rotation. I certainly don't want to get rid of him, though - I think he could be a good reliever. As for Narvseon, I watch him pitch and it feels kind of like watching Dave Bush pitch. He'll be cruising along and all the sudden give up a bunch of runs. (Or in Narveson's case, give up a bunch of runs and then cruise along). IMO, he's pitched better than his ERA and certainly does not deserve to be (and will not be) released before the end of the season, nor should he be released in the offseason. If the Brewers are able to improve their defense going in to next season, and if Narveson starts throwing more offspeed stuff, I could see him being closer to his present xFIP of 4.50, or less. If someone comes along and wants him for a decent return though, sure, he can go.
  12. Wilco: "Being There"
  13. Uwisfan, that sounds very Bushian. Does he compare to Dave?
  14. Jeffress is on the 40-man and won't be subject to MLB sanctions for smoking pot; he's being used a reliever to get his pitching feet back under him (or at least that's what the story is). I don't think Jeffress' situation is comparable to Rogers' at all. He's also 1.5 years younger than Mark.
  15. We've been had - their plan all along was to have both Gwynn AND Gerut. Tricky!
  16. His skill set reminds me a bit of a lefty Cole Gillespie, though like Patrick said, he'd need to hit for a bit more power to make that comparison be more apt.
  17. Komatsu is going to receive a nice bump in the next Power 50, but if you're expecting 20 spots, you might be disappointed. In order to crack the top 10, I would need to know more about his defense in CF. If he can play well there, he'll be amongst the top prospects pretty quick. If he projects as more of a corner guy in the big leagues, I don't know that he has enough power to become a starter. We'll see. I like him a lot.
  18. Yes, I would consider messing with 4-year-olds the zenith of classiness. Go Cardinals.
  19. John Axford just graduated off the Power 50 by beating the Cardinals. Is there any better way?
  20. Covey decided not to sign with the Brewers because he thought he could deal better with diabetes on campus. “The news was such a shock to me,” Dylan Covey told Baseball Beginnings Monday night. “It explained a lot of what went on late in the season. At this point, it’s going to take about six months to get used to the treatment cycle. I’ve got about six months till the college season begins. This is all new stuff and a lot of it is hard to remember. I just felt like it was going to be easier to get used to what this lifestyle is going to be in college than in pro ball.” Darrell Covey said the Brewers and Dylan were close to signing Saturday night and didn’t expect any complications. “The Brewers have been very supportive through this whole ordeal,” Darrell told Baseball Beginnings. “A few days ago everyone was convinced Dylan would sign without a hitch. As time went by, the Brewers had to do some of their own due diligence to figure out what it would take to take care of Dylan. They still wanted him and were still convinced he would be a good big league pitcher. As time went on, we were discussing the idea of having him go to school, being in a more controlled environment from our point of view, for his health. The unfortunate point of view is we do not have time to think about this stuff. The bottom line is that it was Dylan’s call. The bottom line is Dylan was leading the charge to go to school.”
  21. I'm shocked, but a silver lining is that the Brewers will get two of the top ~15 picks in next year's deep draft class. FWIW, Covey would have debuted at about #10 on the new Power 50 that will be out in a few days.
  22. It what was either the most epic work of the last 15 years or a rare case of the WWE coming to their senses, Bryan Danielson (erm, Daniel Bryan) re-debuted at SummerSlam tonight. I didn't order the PPV, but I marked out big time when I read it. Like Chris Jericho returning to WWE big time.
  23. Axford is 1.2 IP away from graduating off of the Power 50.
  24. Dear Chris- If a ball hits you, you should go to first base. -Thanks
