  1. That was a Corey Hart-esque throw by Spilborghs... terrible.
  2. With Gomez' speed, he doesn't really sacrifice bunt. He was only out by 3/4 of a step.
  3. The left fielder couldn't cut it off and it rolled by him a little, so it's not like Kottaras flashed Gomez-like speed or anything, but it was impressive for a catcher.
  4. He was safe, it was a lollipop throw by Weeks that cost the Brewers.
  5. Davis is just setting up the triple play here. Again.
  6. Earlier in the thread, it was stated that Zaun's OPS for the last 3 years was 739. In 2009, MLB catchers had a collective 715 OPS (709 in the NL). I do suspect that the collective OPS of starting catchers is a bit higher, but clearly Zaun is not a "pathetic" hitter given his position.
  7. So, the logic here is: Sign big $$ contract ---> start some games ---> be mediocre enough to warrant being replaced ---> have replacements with higher upsides available ---> get injured ---> ??? ---> 5th starter! Flawless.
  8. But most of the time it is... like now.
  9. In order to effect change, Attanasio can't just say "this is what's wrong." He needs to say "this is what's wrong, and here are my ideas about how to fix it." He needs to mention specifics, like TV revenue sharing, if he actually wants to start leveling the playing field. He needs to get a conversation going, not a snark-fest.
  10. This is surely one of those... http://vig-fp.pearsoned.co.uk/bigcovers/0273704575.jpg
  11. The word struggle has two very different connotations, and I think Attanasio meant to use the word in the more positive way. As in, "the Brewers are in a struggle for first place" - not "the Brewers are struggling, and in last place." But yeah, not very well phrased.
  12. Levine's points would be more valid if the Brewers were suddenly able to negotiate a TV contract that would give the Brewers 1/3 of the revenue that the Yankees get from YES. The Yankees do have unfair advantages, though I also don't think it behooves Attanasio to keep playing this out in public as much as he does. It's not going to change anything, and it does sound a little whiny.
  13. With the Brevard roster released, we are officially in to year two of "Where is Josh Romanski?" Cutter Dykstra not ending up on a full-season roster is a little heartbreaking. Have to feel for the guy, with all his dad's troubles. Mike Brownstein or Brandon Sizemore would look good on this roster. Maybe we'll see one or the other back from Arizona soon. They won't be a man under the limit for long. Moving Fiers in to the rotation is a pretty fascinating move, though I hope they think he has a chance to stick there because he's pretty old to be in A-ball. If it doesn't work, he should be relieving in AA soon. Trey Watten is a good sleeper prospect.
  14. Is Burgos pitching out of the pen? That's odd. I thought Lamontaigne might have a shot at some starts, too. Perhaps those two will be worked in after promotions.
  15. If McGehee hit that ball any harder, Seth Smith would have been hit in the head with it. He never saw it.
  16. That looked like it had enough to get out... oh well. Don't like to see the lack of hustle out of Braun there.
  17. Don't understand not PH for Gallardo... his velocity is down, control is off, and your bullpen is about as fresh as it's going to get.
  18. Zaun's hit a couple down the line that were nabbed and Escobar lines one just not quite over the third baseman's head after a nice AB. I like what I'm seeing, even if the results aren't there.
