  1. The Brewers probably strengthened their chances at the playoffs by trading for Sabathia, the Cubs possibly strengthened theirs by trading for Harden. There may well be two spots in the playoffs to be had between the two teams, so I don't see this as directly affecting the Brewers' playoff chances. If St. Louis had traded for Harden and Gaudin, I might be more worried.
  2. Deal done, being discussed here.
  3. If they sell out 1/3 of the remaining 33 home games, which is not any stretch, they just have average around 36,500 for the other 22 to hit 3 million, if I'm doing my math correctly. If they're in the race, that won't be much of a problem. If we drop out by the time school starts again, we might miss the mark by 100K.
  4. Marte has a club option for $6 mil, FWIW. If the Brewers were to acquire him and then decline the option (for $250 K), they would have to offer him arby to get the draft picks. If he were pitching well, they might just pick up the option to keep him. Anywho, I've liked Marte for quite some time but I would be nervous about trading a good prospect for him within the division. Something like Tim Dillard or Luis Pena, and Steve Chapman might work, but if they wanted a top-end prospect, I'd look elsewhere. If Linebrink took Inman, Garrison, and Thatcher.... Anundsen, Seidel, Ramlow? If they ask for Anundsen, Seidel and Ramlow, run in the other direction Doug.
  5. Well hypothetically, I could play along half way. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif This franchise, for whatever reason, has always seemed to play well against good pitchers and play like crap monsters against mediocre pitchers. That, combined with the advantages of playing at home in the first place, would make me lean heavily toward taking the division and facing Webb/Haren.
  6. Is there a dowry involved? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I agree that it's kind of an outdated tradition, but then again every situation is different, and I think it's a nice gesture, if you think you need to make it.
  7. Go to Old Country Buffet and ask them by the ham as the chef carves it. No, I have no idea... it won't take too long, but I wouldn't want it over my head the whole dinner, so I would do it right after ordering. Good luck!
  8. Hardy was named NL Player of the Week for last week. Good on you, James Jerry!
  9. He's owed at least $27 mil over the next two years... I know pitcher contracts are getting out of hand, but if we do trade him, it'll probably be for another mediocre player making a lot of money.
  10. LaPorta is being sent to Akron, the Indians' AA team.
  11. Rooting for injuries has just officially jumped the shark.
  12. In honor of trading for CC Sabathia, it is time to hit the old shuffle button on your favorite digital music player and report the first 25 tracks. Yay Sabathia! 1. Mogwai: "Christmas Song" (hah) 2. Alice Cooper: "I'm Eighteen" 3. J Dilla: "Da Factory" 4. Elvis Costello: "Talking in the Dark" 5. Plaid: "Prig" 6. Halou: "I'll Carry You (Edit)" 7. My Bloody Valentine: "Lose My Breath" 8. Dead Can Dance: "The Writing on my Father's Hand" 9. Ludwig van Beethoven: "Symphony No. 6 in F major, op. 68 'Pastoral': Andante molto mosso: Szene am Bach" 10. J.O.Y.: "Sunplus (DFA Remix)" 11. Working for a Nuclear Free City: "Fallout" 12. Cat Power: "New York" 13. Bob Dylan: "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" 14. Flogging Molly: "The Light of a Fading Star" 15. Juno Reactor: "Jardin De Cecile" 16. Jóhann Jóhannsson: "Eg Sleppi þer Aldrei" 17. Junior Boys: "Under the Sun" 18. Studio: "West Side" 19. Elvis Presley: "Reconsider Baby" 20. Harold Budd, Simon Raymonde, Robin Guthrie & Elizabeth Fraser: "Eyes Are Mosaics" 21. Dosh: "Wolves" 22. Homer Ledford and The Cabin Creek Band: "I'm Going to Make Heaven My Home" 23. Sian Alice Group: "Interlude 7'35"" 24. The Decemberists: "July, July!" 25. The Rolling Stones: "Paint it Black"
  13. The PTBNL is not a member of the Brewers' major league roster.
  14. Sabathia will wear #52, yes.
  15. "The list" of PTBNL later is probably no more than two or three guys, so it shouldn't handcuff Melvin. I don't know how many more prospect they'll trade anyway.
  16. I've always said "Sa-bay-thia" too but I've also wondered if I was pronouncing it incorrectly. I was hoping they'd clear it up but they haven't!
  17. Chris Dennis is working on a pretty impressive 3TO%.
  18. The Brewers are not trading Hardy or Escobar for the rest of the season unless some mindblowing offer came their way. Roberts isn't mindblowing. If the Brewers do go after him, it'll be with Weeks and a prospect, maybe Gindl or Seidel.
  19. Steve Hammond makes a lot sense to me as the PTBNL... he has a dead arm, but he's a lefty starter very close to the big leagues. He has big league stuff, and will be ready soon, but maybe just as a reliever. A perfect guy for the Indians to go after.
  20. Bryson is a pretty huge loss, but he's a young pitcher in A ball, and we all know the widely divergent career paths those guys seem to go on. Cain is going to have a monster season next year in AA and if he shows he can play CF better than Brantley and Hart, he may be our CF of the future.
  21. Either Brett Lawrie or Jonathan Lucroy may well end up being our third baseman of the future. I'd rather not lose Green, but it's not a huge hole that can never be plugged.
  22. Unless he's the PTBNL. Why would they tell him he might be traded later if he does well?
  23. Actually one of my favorite parts to this deal is how the Cubs will try to compensate and overreact. Betancourt has been fine up to this year, his WHIP is just up. Unless he is having arm troubles or something, it's too small of a sample to say he doesn't have a place on the staff. Surely no one would say 38.2 IP is a big enough sample to judge a guy that has more than 500 previous pro innings.
