  1. I do that too, Patrick. Especially with gas prices where they are now, if there's any chance in Hades that I'm making that light at the end of the ramp, I'm going for it. Slow down on the ramp, not before it. Definitely. I too am an aggressive driver, usually within the bounds of the law. Defensive drivers irk me tons more than overly aggressive drivers - I can dig fear of accidents, but by being overly defensive it just means you're not being relaxed in the driver's seat and you're driving counter to most other people on the road (which isn't safe, and sort of negates the purpose of driving defensively). I don't drive defensively at all, I drive aggressively and courteously to other people on the road and I've never been remotely close to being in an accident.
  2. If you think J.J. is going to be about an 800 OPS guy, that's almost the definition of an average 3B the past few years. If you think it's going to be 850, that's a little above average, but still not top tier. IMO, he would be a competent third baseman from an offensive perspective, but third base would never be a position of offensive strength with him there. Theoretically the impact of his lack of range at shortstop would be lessened at third though haven't a number of shortstop said that they feel much less comfortable at third base because the ball gets at them more quickly?
  3. Arizona 1B Pedro Ramos might turn into an interesting prospect. 18 years old, big, lefty swinging first baseman that appears to have at least some speed and power.

  6. The Brewers' high water mark as a franchise is 31 games over .500. Let's keep the winning streak going!
  7. The answer you seek is here.
  8. Games of interest, centrally timed: 11:10 - Philadelphia @ Mets - J. Moyer (9-6. 3.90) vs. O. Perez (6-6, 4.36) 7:05 - Florida @ Cubs - S. Olsen (6-4, 3.84) vs. C. Zambrano (10-4, 2.98)

  13. People who pronounce Italian "eye-talian" - I've never heard anyone pronounce Italy "eye-taly" so why do people make the pronunciation error on one, but not the other?
  14. Gwynn's career OBP in the bigs to this point is .305 (hence the Gary Bennett reference). He's a terribly weak hitter overall, and he's not even that fast. He's not much more than a 5th OF, certainly not a lead-off hitter, and that some people strongly think he is, is what drives us Slappy haters nuts.
  15. young Antone Williamson fast Alex Sanchez great defender Steve Moss that can bunt Ben Sheets get on base Gary Bennett steal Mike Felder is left handed My 7 week old daughter
  16. As long as the injury doesn't affect his mechanics, I'm fine with him pitching out of the pen assuming he's built up the requisite arm strength. The thing I'm still concerned about with Yo isn't his recovery from the knee injury, it's how the injury will affect the rest of his body. I don't want him rushing back as soon as they knee has been rehabbed, and then get his mechanics out of whack and blow out his shoulder. It would be a tough call to replace Torres with Gallardo just for the playoffs, though.
  17. I wonder if we could get a really good deal for George Sherrill if we agreed to pay part of Gibbons' salary from Baltimore?
  18. While it is not imperative that the Brewers add another good reliever to the mix, the bullpen is the most obvious place to add talent, and it is undeniable that the team would be more talented with another good reliever. If Melvin gets a good deal, especially for a guy that'll be around after this year, might as well pull the trigger.
  19. Jenkins has a better chance at the Walk of Fame than... http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/ae33572144ba9dcad71494cd23b8275ab07129c.jpg Ned Yost? And yes, Gantner was the last person to wear #17 for the Brewers.
  20. Bologna is basically the same thing as a hot dog. Oh, and... the sun is a very magic fellow.
  21. Escobar isn't being traded for a reliever. The Brewers value him too highly. If we trade for Sherrill, I'd be shocked if Brad Nelson weren't in the deal in some regard, with another, more highly though-of prospect.
  22. I wonder if Bill Hall still wants to be traded?
  23. A civil/transportation engineer could correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading about a study that said a highway or road going from 2 lanes to 1 lane is best utilized when all traffic merges at the one point where the road goes to one lane. The theory behind this was that since a 2 lane road is best utilized when both lanes are open, it would make sense to keep traffic in both lanes as long as possible. If everyone merged into one lane a mile, a half mile, etc., before the road went down to one lane, you'd be underutilizing the potential traffic capability of the 2-lane road. It's the same reason you merge into traffic at the end of the ramp. It made logical sense to me, though I'm still not sure if it makes practical sense.
