  1. Another thing to think about for Manny this year is that his career high IP in a single year in the minors is not quite 140, and that was 4 years ago in Beloit. I'd guess that would be his inning max this year, and maybe not even that high (possibly 120?). This means he'll have to either be shut down or moved to the bullpen sometime in early August. X, that's interesting about Manny taking a long time to warm up. Maybe it could help Ned's bullpen strategy, knowing he'd have to be thinking about these things a few innings ahead of time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It could also be that since Manny has never really relieved, he's not used to warming up more quickly, and that's something that could come with time. I'd still like to see if he could start before giving up on that option. He still has one option remaining after this year, so I'd like to see him used as a starter again in AAA next year assuming he doesn't break with the big club as a reliever.
  2. Parra having some control issues thus far in his AAA debut. Minor league Gameday is never accurate, so I have no idea where he's missing, but he's missing. He's also struck out a few lefthanders, including prospect Geovany Soto. (Hint, hint.)
  3. They're just working out the language of the contract. Boras demands that each contract his client signs has clauses which read: "SCOTT BORAS RULEZ!!!1!" and "I, GENERAL MANAGER X, JUST GOT HOSED BY BORAS. BWAHAHA." There's probably also something about making Melvin reaffirm that he indeed signed A-Rod for $250 mil and how much that's awesome.
  4. Billy Walsh might be my favorite recurring character on Entourage. I almost blew OJ out my nose when he bum-rushed Sven the DP and tackled him onto the car. He's such a stereotype, but the actor makes it seem natural. I also enjoyed the "Are you (sleeping with) the hot girl?" interviews he conducted. Really fun episode.
  5. Matt Kretzschmar loads the bases with no out, and then gets a strike out, a second strike out, and a ground out to pick up the save. Good drama at the end of the game, and congrats to your first place Helena Brewers! Woot!
  6. Nice comeback by Helena in the top of the 9th. Newton with a jack and Gindl got a double and eventual go-ahead run. Matt Kretzschmar on for the save. And Steve Wendt mentioned that Seidel would be going tomorrow, piggybacking with Baron.
  7. I could tell you what he said, but Coshun's dense summary of it erased any and all of Hank's cogent points from my memory.
  8. We'll call it a seam, Russ. Anywho, I take leave of the site for the next 8 hours. Good luck, Yo! And a bold prediction: Kevin Mench will both walk and hit a HR tonight. Take that to the bank.
  9. If the Brewers want to get something out of Sam Narron before he becomes a free agent, they might want to think about switching him to the pen in the second half of the season. He's been decent against lefties, but pretty bad overall, especially for the Southern League.
  10. What do I win for guessing the correct lineup first? I have to avoid this site like the plague from game time on... I can't watch the beginning of the game, so I'm recording it, so I can't watch it until the whole thing is over. Boo.
  11. Maybe they are either: a) Waiting til the middle of the game to announce it, so they can trot him out at some point for the crowd already there to see Yo pitch something else exciting; or, b) Waiting until tomorrow so they can have the Yo thing one day and the LaPorta thing the next day. Either way, I wish they'd get it over with so he can, you know, play baseball.
  12. elbow injuries scare me alot less than shoulders I agree with that, though what worries me here is that the elbow injury came after the shoulder injury. At this point, I wouldn't have a problem with just shutting Braddock down for the rest of the year, at least to the extent of not having him pitch in a game situation for the Power this season. And now that I just typed that, I remember that Braddock had TJ surgery a few years ago. I hope it is just related somehow to recovery from that.
  13. And since Lowry is pitching, Mench will be in the lineup, unless Mench is hurt. Hart RF Hardy SS Braun 3B Fielder 1B Hall CF Estrada C Mench LF Weeks 2B Gallardo SP
  14. I'd put money on Gross going down. Gwynn's on-field usage seems to be a lot more prevalent lately, and frankly I'd like to get Gabe regular ABs, even if it is in AAA for a few weeks.
  15. The comeback was great, but using Spurling in that situation wasn't a good idea.
  16. Booo Johnny Estrada. Hooray beer!
  17. Nice AB by Hall. And now, Estrada. Ugh.
  18. With the ump's low stike zone, Suppan might have a really good game today.
  19. Nice AB, Johnny. Why isn't Jenkins hitting ahead of him in the lineup again?
  20. ...For only $20K! cgi.ebay.com/Beatles-ULTR...dZViewItem Most people on here probably don't have the money for it, but this is a very interesting collector's opportunity. To get a higher number, you'd probably have to go on the black market, and oh the irony about that. This is just about the best thing I've seen on Ebay since that VU vinyl awhile back. Even if you don't like the Beatles, if you have the cash, this will most assuredly appreciate in value pretty quickly.
  21. Not making an excuse -- Will didn't shine tonight, but you have to question that while he was pitching on normal rest, he was asked to basically travel via plane this AM and pitch on the same day. Corey Thurman could have been scheduled to pitch the nightcap with Will pushing Steve Hammond and Lindsay Gulin back a day. Steve Hammond is still one of the Brewers' better prospects... they wouldn't push him back for Will Inman. And if Inman had a problem with an airplane flight on his starting pitching day, he will have to iron out a lot of things by the time he makes it to the bigs. I am much less concerned with Inman having a bad outing than Inman having a healthy AA debut. The Stars don't win the Southern League because of Will Inman starting today... who cares? Will Inman started today.
  22. Great win tonight. I was loving me some Shouse there in the random ending.
  23. Not good for Inman... But it'll get better.
