  1. OPS is and will always be a overrated stat. ok mabye its not overrated Indeed.
  2. OPS is and will always be a overrated stat. Why?
  3. All i was saying is that both Jenkins and Lee are both doing horrible this year How is a 909 OPS "doing horrible"?
  4. IM TALKING THIS YEAR Turn the caps-lock off. Thanks.
  5. Im not saying Carlos is good either. If neither Lee nor Jenkins are good, you're pretty much saying all but a few major league starting OFers aren't good. That's a heckuva statement.
  6. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. Alka-Seltzer.
  7. Manny Parra with a vintage Manny Parra-like outing. He went five innings, and I can only hope everything is feeling rosy in his shoulder. Koonce is a sweet OBP guy that had a cup of coffee with the A's (I know, weird) a few years ago. He replaced Bad Brad Nelson at 1B for the Sounds. And on the day Huntsville scores 6 runs, their pitching can't hold the team under 6. Good grief.
  8. Capuano is "entitled" to a few of these throughout the season - its just too bad he had to pick right now to have his first clunker of the year. It also stings a little that the Brewers will finish May with a sub-.500 record. The team played well for the most part, its just hard to keep up an 85-88 win pace when your pitching staff implodes consistently over a 2-3 week period. Edit: Turnbow? I'm all for getting the guy innings in non-save circumstances, but this is a little out there.
  9. I can't believe he'd turn down any affilated deal. My guess is that he received a number of affiliated deals in the offseason, but as I alluded to earlier, he was probably waiting for a guaranteed AAA spot. He's an OBP machine, and has been almost a Jack Cust-lite during his minor league stay. This signing probably didn't come very cheaply for the Brewers, and is a function both of Nelson's struggles and the Brewers' desire to keep Nashville in line for a playoff spot and Huntsville, well, competetive. I like him and if he was given a shot in the bigs, I think he might turn out to be an average or so first baseman, but his defensive limitations (ie being primarily a first baseman) make that shot a long one.
  10. Koonce can hit, but I wonder why he wasn't placed at AA He wouldn't have signed if the Brewers told him they were placing him in AA. He might even be good enough to have earned a AAA-only contract, not a AA/AAA contract.
  11. Look where Mr. Gallardo sits on Baseball America's Prospect Hot Sheet this week: And look where Jeremy Sowers, the guy taken directly after Mark Rogers in the '04 draft, sits. He'd be nice to have around right now.
  12. Anyone else notice that Mike Bell has 19 errors with the Power through his first 32 games there? Yowsa.
  13. Horrible news about Inman... this better not be the start of something bigger with him. There's nothing more the Brewers could have done to baby him with pitch counts. Good news on the other hand for Garrison. I wasn't expecting him to be called on until Helena started up their season, but he's one of the kids I'm more excited about from last June's draft. Good luck to him.
  14. I think Huntsville could use a whole new team right now.. Yah, there are maybe 4-5 guys on that entire team who I hope to see in the box score on a given night. I'll also take this opportunity to note that Cap'n Lou has a neat OBP (without high K's) - he's gone a ways to reasserting his prospect status this year. Hall, Lewis, and Alliston all should be considered for promotion from Brevard. Of course, they'll probably just sign some more indy leaguers.
  15. Steve Bray finally walked someone.
  16. I sit here completely shocked that on May 23rd, Carlos Villanueva and Joe Winkelsas are coming out of our bullpen. All those guys who were up in arms about the 13-man staff and threw a fit when Davis was allowed to start the 8th last week got real quiet in a real hurry. While I agree that the horrid starting pitching contributes to the need for a larger pitching staff, I still have a problem with the 13-man staff. That problem is, the 12th and 13th guys on the staff have been horrible - if the Brewers can't find 13 good pitchers to put on their roster, they shouldn't be there just to be there. What I find especially disturbing is that Chris Demaria and Justin Lehr have about the same, or more, innings pitched than Wise or Kolb. Wise and Kolb are both on pace for 50 or fewer innings pitched this year - it's not like they've been overworked, especially in Wise's case. The only guy who I see as being overworked in Capellan, and at times Turnbow. Capuano, Davis and Bush can't be blamed for copious short outings. In fact, the staff as whole only has about a half dozen starts off less than 5 IP, and about another have dozen starts less than six but at least 5. One out of every 8 or 9 starts going less than 5 innings isn't that out of whack. While some might be bunched up, the sometime disuse of Wise and Kolb as made it seem worse than it is, IMO.
  17. Rogers gets bashed enough without posting that after the third inning he just had. Mark Rogers had a 7.39 ERA and a 2.18 WHIP going into the game. I think it's perfectly understandable that people won't give him the benefit of the doubt until he starts performing like a #1 pick. In fact I'd say that if the two hits and two walks allowed by Rogers in the inning are considered anything close to a good inning for Rogers, then we're in trouble.
  18. Where did those pitches to Batista miss? They looked right on the black on the high outside corner.
  19. This game has been painful to watch. Just wasted opportunity after wasted opportunity.
  20. Who in line to take his place in the rotation I would assume the returning Jared Fernandez will take Thompson's spot in the rotation. That would make the AAA rotation Jackson-Sarfate-Meyers-Thurman-Fernandez, or something like that.
  21. I think the fact that they live in Minnesota may answer any questions about their intelligence that you might have. Substitute "live in" with "born in" and I can live with that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Set the color, then press "set font" and type whatever you want. There was a joke there, you just have to look carefully.
