  1. DSL Brewer pitchers issued 18 walks today; the DSL Brewers won 19-9.
  2. It's not really as simple as "the best pitchers should be starting" because then Hader would be in the rotation I think. Houser has a starter's repertoire right now and should be starting, imo. He's also not a free agent until after the 2024 season, so investing in him as a starter now can pay off for numerous years down the road. Seems like a good idea. Peralta, on the other hand, still has not shown a desire to throw his changeup and for the moment probably should not be relied upon to start. If the Brewers were out of contention, maybe, but for now his FB is playing up nicely in the bullpen. They should revisit this in the winter/spring.
  3. Final: AZL Cubs2 7, AZL Brewers Gold 3 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score Brewers lose to the Cubs, part 2. The Gold squad got behind in the 4th inning and were not able to mount a comeback. Francis Florentino and Oswel Leones each singled and doubled, to lead the offense. Yohandry Perez, coming off an awful outing last time out, pitched 2 1/3 scoreless, though he did allow two of his three inherited runners to score. Jose Parra pitched a scoreless ninth and has not allowed an earned run in 17 2/3 innings this year. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log
  4. Final: AZL Cubs1 7, AZL Brewers Blue 5 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score Brewers lose to the Cubs, part 1. The Blues had a lead going into the bottom of the 5th, but the Cubs scored three times in the bottom half of the inning, and then three more times in the seventh to take command of the game. The Blues had a late rally that fell short. Andre Nnebe was on base three times with a single, a triple, and a walk. Danny Casals singled and doubled, while Darrien Miller singled and walked twice. None of the three pitchers used by the Brewers had noteworthy performances. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log Almost, not quite: AZL Brewers Blue Top of the 9th Cam Devanney walks. Darrien Miller walks. Cam Devanney to 2nd. Andre Nnebe triples (1) on a line drive to center fielder Yovanny Cuevas. Cam Devanney scores. Darrien Miller scores. Pitching Change: Luis Silva replaces Carlos Paula. Caleb Marquez out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Carlos Pacheco. Andre Nnebe scores. Victor Vargas lines out to second baseman Pedro Martinez. Danny Casals doubles (2) on a line drive to left fielder Carlos Pacheco. Arbert Cipion singles on a ground ball to right fielder Albert Hinirio. Danny Casals to 3rd. YongKang Kou strikes out swinging, catcher Henderson Perez to first baseman Ethan Hearn.
  5. Final: AZL Rangers 6, AZL Brewers Gold 4 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score Ethan Small's pro debut went well, Cam Robinson's return to AZL continues to be rough, and the Golds could not hold on to an early lead. They fall to 7-19. Carlos Rodriguez returned to the lineup for the first time in 11 days as he continues his rehab. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log
  6. Final: AZL Dodgers Mota 3, AZL Brewers Blue 2 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score Antoine Kelly pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing his first pro run while striking out 4. Alex Hall, Cam Devanney, and Andre Nnebe each chipped in multi-hit games, but 11 runners were left on base and a wild pitch from Henry Medina allowed the Dodgers to walk it off. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log Wild pitch walked-off: AZL Dodgers Mota Bottom of the 9th Alfonso Guillen doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Jackie Urbaez. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Jeremiah Vison replaces Alfonso Guillen. Justin Washington out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Henry Medina to second baseman Orveo Saint. Jeremiah Vison to 3rd. Henry Medina intentionally walks Ismael Alcantara. Wild pitch by pitcher Henry Medina. Jeremiah Vison scores.
  7. Maybe if you look at the trade value site and completely ignore the last 2 months of production... So last two months > crappy 2016, 2017, 2018 and the start of 2019....got it Crappy? Grisham has literally never had a below average offensive season.
  8. It's always 2 umps below AA, as far as I know. And yes, asking the field umpire standing completely out of the line of site of the swing, particularly out at second base, their opinion on a check swing is... something. Btw, here's my twitter thread on the game last night.
  9. Final: AZL Brewers Gold 6, AZL Dodgers Lasorda 5 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score Despite a valiant 9th inning effort to subvert the unexpected, the Golds did manage to win on Wednesday. Larry Ernesto hit his first home run of the year, and four Gold pitchers combined to allow just two earned runs despite a lot of baserunning traffic from the Dodgers. Included in the quartet of pitchers was Santiago Elizondo, making his 2019 (and stateside) debut. The diminutive Mexican lefty pitched really well in the DSL last season. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log The game was 6-2 going to the bottom of the 9th: AZL Dodgers Lasorda Bottom of the 9th Jaime Perez reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Felix Valerio. Jaime Perez to 2nd. Edwin Mateo doubles (4) on a line drive to left fielder Francis Florentino. Jaime Perez scores. Luis Rodriguez reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Felix Valerio. Eddys Leonard grounds out, pitcher Jose Parra to first baseman Aaron Familia. Edwin Mateo to 3rd. Luis Rodriguez to 2nd. Yunior Garcia grounds out, third baseman Felix Valerio to first baseman Aaron Familia. Edwin Mateo scores. Luis Rodriguez to 3rd. Aldrich De Jongh singles on a ground ball to shortstop Odrick Pitre. Luis Rodriguez scores. Yhostin Chirinos lines out to third baseman Felix Valerio.
  10. Final: AZL Padres2 12, AZL Brewers Blue 4 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score This game got ugly quick for the Blues, was 12-0 after 5 innings, and a late comeback didn't quiiiiiiite get there. The bright spots were that Arbert Cipion cracked another few extra base hits, and Cam Devanney singled three times. The game saw Karlos Morales' 2019 debut. Morales, currently on Wisconsin's 7-day IL, is in his third year with the Brewers after being selected in the 25th round of the 2017 draft. The results have not been great, but he's still 19 and the Brewers can be (and have been) patient with Karlos. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log
  11. Final: DSL Dodgers Shoemaker 3, DSL Brewers/Indians 0 (8 innings) DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score The co-op was shut out 3-0 in a rain-shortened game in order to provide some balance in the universe. The Brewers contributions were singles from Francisco Gonzalez and Vitor Watanabe, and a walk drawn by Angel Bautista. No Brewers pitched. DSL Brewer/Indians Game Log
  12. Final: DSL Brewers 3, DSL Cubs2 0 DSL Brewers Box Score It's always nice to shut out the Cubs, even at the lowest level of the minors. The good guys did just that on Wednesday morning, blanking the Cubs 3-0. Young Jesus Parra homered and walked, while Johnnys Cabrera stayed hot as well, launching a home run of his own. Parra got off to a hot start to his pro career, including a 5-5 day with 2 doubles and 2 homers in his third game. He cooled off a bit after that, though, and finished June with a 643 OPS. The 16-year-old has more than kicked it into gear in July, though, posting a .293/.420/.512 clash while showing improvements in both BB% and K%. For his part, Cabrera has also improved as the season has gone on, posting a 612 OPS in June and a 870 OPS so far in July. Alejandro Marte seems to have his ticket punched to join an AZL club after the DSL season ends. He singled and walked twice in the win, and now has a 984 OPS (a 162 wrc+!) on the year. He's been striking out a lot, but no one's perfect. It will be interesting to see who the Brewers bring stateside yet this summer. They typically promote a small handful of players, mostly higher-signing bonus guys. However, the AZL rosters are already nearly full and the signing bonus guys haven't necessarily been the best-performing. Eduarqui Fernandez has a 648 OPS, Branlyn Jaraba has a 676 OPS, Erys Bautista has a 635 OPS, and Eduardo Garcia/Carlos Roa are both hurt. Two guys who may well see stateside ball soon are Oscar Castaneda and Fernando Olguin, the Tijuana-born pitchers who combined for the shutout. I don't have much in the way of scouting reports on either, but they are carrying 2.43 and 1.16 ERAs, respectively. And both with solid peripherals. DSL Brewers Game Log All the offense that was needed came early: DSL Brewers Top of the 1st Rafael Martinez strikes out swinging. Joneiker Ponce de Leon walks. Jhonnys Cabrera homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Joneiker Ponce de Leon scores. Alejandro Marte walks. Pitcher Jonathan Alvarez picks off Alejandro Marte at on throw to first baseman Orlando Zapata. Jesus Parra walks. Pitching Change: Ferrol Heredia replaces Jonathan Alvarez. Wild pitch by pitcher Ferrol Heredia. Jesus Parra to 2nd. Branlyn Jaraba grounds out, shortstop Esmarly Tatis to first baseman Orlando Zapata.
  13. He’s not improved defensively enough to play regular CF at the MLB level. He’s a corner OF, probably LF due to below average arm.
  14. I did; ok for you. What I learned is that he has pretty large hands - this is a good thing for a pitcher. Here’s the the USBPL press release on his signing, with video included. Also from the transaction thread: https://uspbl.com/luis-contreras-signs-with-milwaukee-brewers/
  15. A reminder that the search function at the bottom left of the forum still works. This was posted right after it was announced the Brewers signed Contreras: Get to know me: Wait, how many baseballs can USPBL's Luis Contreras hold in one hand?
  16. http://www.brewerfan.net/images/store/dailylinkreport.jpg Organizational Scoreboard including starting pitcher info, game times, MiLB TV links, and box scores Dominican Summer League Scoreboard (includes DSL Brewers/Indians game) *** Links for affiliate audio *** Standings and sortable stat pages *** MiLB.TV options: San Antonio, Carolina, Wisconsin, and Rocky Mountain home feeds; Biloxi idle.
  17. Final: AZL White Sox 3, AZL Brewers Gold 1 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score The Golds fall to 6-17, still tied for worst in the AZL. They haven't been a particularly awful team, just a seemingly endless string of things not going quite right. Zane Zurbrugg accounted for three of the offense's four hits, including a double. Easily the best day in the nascent career of the 27th rounder. The pitching was pretty good, though starter Brayan Salaya gave up 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He limited the damage though, allowing only two earned runs. Reliever Luis Contreras pitched the rest of the game, striking out seven without allowing any runs. Contreras now has 37 strikeouts in 19 2/3 AZL innings to begin his career. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log
  18. Final: AZL Reds 6, AZL Brewers Blue 2 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score Jackie Urbaez homered, Arbert Cipion tripled twice, and Andre Nnebe collected a single and a double in his pro debut, but the last five hitters in the lineup went a combined 1-19 with 9 Ks and the pitching staff issued a few too many free passes for their own good as the Blues fall to 9-14. An extra disappointing night for the offense as the Reds' team ERA coming into the game was over 7.50. Pablo Garabitos continued to pitch well, allowing just a single in two innings of work. The converted outfielder now has an ERA under 4 on the year, with solid peripherals. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log
  19. For the people that have been watching Grisham all year, he’s been hitting atom balls all year, 678 OPS or not. His change in approach was evident even though the stats have been slow to catch up. My take from the beginning of April:
  20. I love File. Everything has some wiggle. And he’s not a soft tosser.

  22. Again, his bat is well ahead of his glove. He doesn't project to be much more than average defensively.
  23. Final: AZL Rangers 9, AZL Brewers Gold 8 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score The Golds took a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the 6th, but could not hold on for the win. On offense, Ashton McGee was a home run shy of the cycle, Matthew Mika doubled twice, walked, and hit a sac fly, while Felix Valerio singled twice and walked. Valerio now has 39 walks against 26 strikeouts as a pro. The Rangers logged 18 hits and the Gold staff assisted with 4 walks allowed, so the pitching lines are not great. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log
  24. Final: AZL Brewers Blue 8, AZL Indians Red 4 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score A 4-run 4th inning was the difference in an 8-4 Blue victory over the Indians. Kevin Hardin hit his second home run and walked twice, and Anderson Melendez singled and doubled to lead the offense. Hardin is slashing a robust .288/.393/.500 thru his first 60 pro PAs. Alexis Ramirez started and allowed 2 runs in 3 2/3 innings. A trio of relievers did not allow an earned run the rest of the way, though they weren't super efficient in allowing 4 hits and 5 walks. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log 4 in the 4th: AZL Brewers Blue Bottom of the 4th Caleb Marquez singles on a line drive to center fielder Marlin Made. Caleb Marquez steals (2) 2nd base. Danny Casals walks. Anderson Melendez singles on a line drive to center fielder Marlin Made. Caleb Marquez to 3rd. Danny Casals to 2nd. Victor Vargas grounds into a force out, second baseman Jothson Flores to shortstop Landy Pena. Caleb Marquez scores. Danny Casals to 3rd. Anderson Melendez out at 2nd. Victor Vargas to 1st. Throwing error by first baseman Joe Naranjo on the pickoff attempt. Danny Casals scores. Arbert Cipion walks. Arbert Cipion steals (7) 2nd base. Jackie Urbaez strikes out swinging. Cam Devanney doubles (3) on a ground ball to left fielder Cesar Idrogo. Victor Vargas scores. Arbert Cipion scores. Cam Devanney to 3rd. Cam Devanney advances to 3rd, on a fielding error by left fielder Cesar Idrogo. Kevin Hardin walks. Darrien Miller lines out to left fielder Cesar Idrogo.
