  1. Wisconsin and Beloit suspended in the bottom of the third, 1-1 tie. They'll resume tomorrow and then play the regularly schedule game, which will be shortened to 7 innings. Looks like they're having issues posting DSL scores. Might not have an update until tomorrow morning.
  2. Beloit Beats Rattlers with Big Inning Five-run fifth is enough to send Wisconsin to sixth straight loss By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) Wisconsin Boxscore Another day, another pitching blowup for the Rattlers, another loss. A season-high six game losing streak and a season-low six games under .500. Jordan Desguin allowed all of the damage today, and all in one inning, as a five run fifth doomed the team. Luke Barker and Aaron Myers held Beloit in check for the final 4 2/3, but Wisconsin could not mount a comeback. Joantgel Segovia and Mario Feliciano each had two hits. I didn't realize until now - this is the sixth game in a row Segovia has had exactly two hits, and he has a nine game hit streak going. It's bumped his average from .194 to .248, though the OPS still hits at a meager 580. Nathan Rodriguez threw out four of the five stolen base attempts on him. He's thrown out 39% of runners this year. Wisconsin Game Log This did it: Beloit Top of the 5th Collin Theroux homers (9) on a fly ball to left field. Eric Marinez triples (2) on a line drive to right fielder Demi Orimoloye. Luis Barrera lines out to first baseman Ryan Aguilar. Luke Persico singles on a line drive to right fielder Demi Orimoloye. Eric Marinez scores. Nate Mondou walks. Luke Persico to 2nd. Miguel Mercedes homers (11) on a fly ball to left field. Luke Persico scores. Nate Mondou scores. Kyle Nowlin doubles (10) on a ground ball to left fielder Joantgel Segovia. Pitching Change: Luke Barker replaces Jordan Desguin. With Trace Loehr batting, wild pitch by Luke Barker, Kyle Nowlin to 3rd. Trace Loehr reaches on a fielder's choice out, second baseman Trever Morrison to catcher Nathan Rodriguez. Kyle Nowlin out at home. With JaVon Shelby batting, Trace Loehr caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Nathan Rodriguez to second baseman Trever Morrison.
  3. Annual reminder than Osmel Perez is still on the restricted list.
  4. The following players do not appear on either DSL team roster, and are likely in Arizona, set to begin play stateside: C Jose Sibrian C Moises Perez SS Antonio Pinero CF Jesus Lujano OF Nic Pierre RHP Harold Chirino RHP Henry Medina
  5. The following recently signed players do not currently appear on either roster: C Jose Romero SS Elian Gonzalez RHP Victor Vasquez RHP Julio Raudez (sorry, can't find player page) If they don't appear soon, have to think their signings were voided or some such. Incidentally, the other Jose Romero, a RHP, was reinstated from the restricted list and is on the active roster for main DSL club.
  6. We'll sort out all of the players "missing" from the DSL roster shortly. Offhand, I know Harold Chirino is also stateside.
  7. Perfect Game's Mock v.2 is up. A familiar name at #9, a new (I think) name at #34.
  8. Sox Use Long Ball In 6-3 Win Brinson hits two home runs to pace Sky Sox in series opener. By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Photo: Paat Kelly) Colorado Springs Boxscore Lewis Brinson hit the two aforementioned bombs as part of a three hit night, one of which lead the game off. That gives him six on the year. Brett Phillips added his 11th jack, and Yadiel Rivera his 3rd. Phillips, Rivera, and Nate Orf each had two hits. Orf had the Sky Sox' other extra base hit, a triple. Brent Suter scattered three runs in his five innings of work. Tyler Cravy, Wei-Chung Wang, and David Goforth one hit the Dodgers over the final four innings. Colorado Springs Game Log Lots of good stuff to take a look at.
  9. Peoria Deep Sixes Rattlers Chiefs break 2-2 with six runs after two outs in the sixth inning By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) Wisconsin Boxscore Parker Berberet had his third poor outing in a row, giving up six runs all with two outs in his lone inning of work. It would be the difference in the game. The Rattlers' team ERA now stands at 5.07. Hopefully it's just about bottomed out. Ronnie Gideon hit his third home run in five games, and Tucker Neuhaus hit his eighth of the year. Mario Feliciano paced the offense with three hits, one of them a triple. There was a brawl involving Monte Harrison detailed above. Wisconsin Game Log They even had the third out: Peoria Bottom of the 6th Pitching Change: Parker Berberet replaces Thomas Jankins. Brian O'Keefe grounds out, shortstop Gilbert Lara to first baseman Ronnie Gideon. Ryan McCarvel walks. Juan Yepez flies out to left fielder Trever Morrison. Dylan Carlson strikes out swinging. Wild pitch by pitcher Parker Berberet. Ryan McCarvel to 2nd. Dylan Carlson to 1st. Nick Plummer singles on a ground ball to first baseman Ronnie Gideon. Ryan McCarvel to 3rd. Dylan Carlson to 2nd. Shane Billings singles on a ground ball to shortstop Gilbert Lara. Ryan McCarvel scores. Dylan Carlson scores. Shane Billings to 2nd. Nick Plummer advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by second baseman Tucker Neuhaus. Jose Martinez doubles (2) on a fly ball to left fielder Trever Morrison. Nick Plummer scores. Shane Billings scores. Stefan Trosclair triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Demi Orimoloye. Jose Martinez scores. J. R. Davis singles on a ground ball to left fielder Trever Morrison. Stefan Trosclair scores. Brian O'Keefe strikes out swinging.
  10. Gilbert Lara back to active on the Wisconsin roster already as he's transferred back from Helena. That was a quick break. OF Caleb Whalen placed on Wisconsin's DL.
  11. Barring a predraft deal, BPA in play here. Toss up between Lewis and Gore for me... 1.4 - MacKenzie Gore

  13. I agree the Brewers should not get into a bidding war, and try to go a little more under the radar. Clayton Richard has been really good against LHH for the most part over the past 3 years with an OPS allowed around 600. Daniel Coulombe and Sean Doolittle with the A's would be other options.
  14. Rattlers Lose 7-5 to Chiefs Segovia & Gideon each drive in two runs for Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) Wisconsin Boxscore More decent offensive output for Wisconsin, but more poor pitching as well and the Rattlers lose their fourth in a row to move to a season-low four games under .500. The team ERA now sits at 5.02, worst in the Midwest League. The lease average ERA is 3.87. The Rattlers also have the worst batting average in the Midwest League, at .221, and next to worst team OPS too. It's actually pretty amazing that the team is only four games under .500. Wisconsin Game Log Despite a good outing last time on the bump, Zack Brown's uneven season continued, and this was how he was greeted: Peoria Bottom of the 3rd Pitching Change: Zack Brown replaces Victor Diaz. Dylan Carlson doubles (3) on a line drive to center fielder Monte Harrison. Nick Plummer grounds out to first baseman Ronnie Gideon. Dylan Carlson to 3rd. Jose Martinez singles on a line drive to left fielder Joantgel Segovia. Dylan Carlson scores. Stefan Trosclair singles on a line drive to right fielder Caleb Whalen. Jose Martinez to 2nd. Andy Young strikes out swinging. Brian O'Keefe singles on a ground ball to right fielder Caleb Whalen. Jose Martinez scores. Stefan Trosclair to 3rd. Brian O'Keefe to 2nd on the throw. Ryan McCarvel singles on a ground ball to center fielder Monte Harrison. Stefan Trosclair scores. Brian O'Keefe scores. Ryan McCarvel to 2nd on the throw. Vince Jackson flies out to center fielder Monte Harrison.

  17. Peoria Stops Late Rattler Rally for 6-5 Win Rattlers strand 13 in one-run loss at Dozer Park By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) Wisconsin Boxscore The Rattlers scored in five different innings but couldn't quite come back from six runs given up early in the game. Six Rattlers had one hit, and Joantgel Segovia lead the way with two hits. The team did draw eight walks, including three from Jose Cuas, which as noted in the article above, lead to 13 runners stranded. Happens when you go 0-14 with runners in scoring position. Ouch. Starter David Burkhalter allowed most of the damage, by giving up five runs in three innings of work. Nattino Diplan allowed one run in his four innings - it's the first time in eight games he's allowed fewer than two runs in an outing. Jordan Desguin struck out the side in his lone inning and return from the disabled list. Wisconsin Game Log The night in a nutshell, down one by one: Wisconsin Top of the 9th Ryan Aguilar walks. Jose Cuas walks. Ryan Aguilar to 2nd. Trever Morrison out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Jose Martinez to second baseman J. R. Davis. Ryan Aguilar to 3rd. Jose Cuas to 2nd. Caleb Whalen called out on strikes. Demi Orimoloye called out on strikes.
  18. 1.2 - MacKenzie Gore Reds cut a slightly underslot deal to take advantage of large bonus pool.
  19. I was only vaguely aware of Luis Gonzalez' walk prowess before doing the report - did not realize he has walked 58 times in about 219 ABs/280 PAs. That's nearly a 125 walk/600 PA pace. Gonzalez is one of only two D1 players who have at least 41 walks, who have more walks than games played. (D.J. Artis, a sophomore at Liberty is the other - he's also the D1 leader in walks, with 62.)

  21. Kodi is back to throwing gas again. His first 5 innings pitched on 5/17 were the best I have ever seen him throw. Mid 90's filth. If he could bottle that up and use it every single time he goes out on the mound, he's a top 50 prospect in baseball. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that and he still has a lot of work to do, but he's more on the right track after a worrying 2016 season. Edit: Forgot to add, Kodi's swinging strike % has risen from 8.5% last year (which is pretty bad) to 13.2% this year (which is pretty average). With his stuff, you'd hope for more than average but again, moving in the right direction.
  22. Phillips' road OPS is 942. Still a pitcher friendly league generally speaking outside of Colorado Springs, but a 942 OPS is still really good. To put it more clearly, before Monday's 3-3 game, he had a 148 wRC+. That's the same wRC+ that Joey Votto has at the MLB level. (Just for reference - obviously not comparing the two. Avi Garcia has a 148 wRC+ as well.) The strikeouts are troubling, though FWIW the K rate has been steadily dropping, more than 5 percentage points now, over the past month. He even went 13 PAs without a K a week or so ago. If he can get it down another 5%ish, I think that gets to the point where bat to ball is workable at the big league level. I do say all of this as true believer in Brett. He hasn't dropped out of my top 5 prospects despite having the "down" year last year. Which upon further review, wasn't even that bad of a year.
  23. Rattlers Fall Hard to LumberKings Clinton beats Wisconsin 11-3 in Memorial Day Matinee By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) Wisconsin Boxscore Quoth me yesterday: Lately when the Rattlers have lost, they have for the most part *really* lost. If you're going to do something, go all the way with it, right? Their prior loss was 15-2, and two losses before that they capitulated 12-2. They also were bested twice by Clinton a few weeks ago at home, 15-3 and 10-3. For reals. I know I keep harping on this, but the Rattlers' offense has so much trouble making contact. With Feliciano sitting this one out, they had exactly one player finish the game with a batting average over .250, and that is Monte Harrison's .253. I don't place a lot of weight on batting average, but I place more weight on it at the extremes, and this is extremely bad. Ronnie Gideon and Joantgel Segovia each had two singles. Trever Morrison hit his third long ball. Morrison has a sneaky 662 OPS. If the batting average can ever sneak north a ways past .200... Braden Webb blew up and the game was put out of reach relatively early. After his 4 innings on the 18th when his ERA sat at 3.86, his last two appearances have boosted it all the way up to 6.40. It's mostly related to his all-of-the-sudden inability to throw strikes. Hope it's just a mechanical thing that they can tweak. Cam Roegner limited damage over the last 4 2/3 innings of the game after Webb got the hook. Wisconsin Game Log I didn't even look. It seemed to be not good.
