  1. I don't know. IMO Carlton Fisk was the better player of the two. But, you could make an argument for both getting in. And you could make an argument for neither deserving to be in. At the end of the day, I guess Fisk deserved to be in and Simba.... hmmm.... hem, haw, hem, haw... I'll say no, but I wouldn't scream if they selected him. By the way... the article link that presents this scenario from the earlier post really understates the difference in their defensive abilities. Carlton Fisk was a much, much, much better defensive catcher than Simba. And that very well might be the difference maker in the end.
  2. That's true, but those are dominant numbers even if he were playing in the Grand Canyon. I don't want to sell the guy short here. I think he's a Sheets quality pitcher. But, he has given up a little on the road this year. Let's hope tonight is no exception.
  3. The road splits on Beckett are not nearly as scary as his home games. If Cappy pitches decent, this could be an interesting game in spite of the fact that at first glance you probably wouldn't like the matchup. Home - 2.36 ERA; 0.99 WHIP Road - 4.24; 1.27
  4. Tell me you made that up in photo-shop. No way is that guy's name Fukufuji.
  5. Maybe because you're still in a mode that is more fearful of the Brewers being embarassed rather than fearful of losing. Nothing to worry about if you expect to lose. On the other hand, it can look bad if you lose to Astacio and Rodriguez. Very common symptom of being a fan of a team that has been losing for over a decade.
  6. Allow me to be the glass half-empty guy for a moment... The Stros are 84% to at least split the series. Sounds like our best case scenario is a split. Considering we have Vic and Tomo going in the series, I'm not liking the looks of things. But, hey... I never would've predicted that we take the Colorado series with the Sheets game as our only loss -- so who knows?
  7. Apparently the results of the MRI on Roger's back came back negative. Would've been a shame if he would've had to miss a start.
  8. Sutter should be in. Fingers deserved to make it. Gossage probably deserves to be in -- it was game over when he came in for a few years in there (although effective longevity might've been a problem with him - I'm not sure). And Lee Smith should definitely NOT be in. He had some good years and lasted a long time, but he was not in these guys' class.
  9. rluz has on several occasions stated that his "predictions" don't take into consideration pitching matchups. The fact that Sheets is pitching in this series - I imagine - would pull those numbers towards the Brewers favor significantly over any random matchup. If you took matchups into consideration, I bet it would be at least 50/50 chance of the Brewers winning the series. And if you take recent trends into consideration it's probably better than that (considering that the Crew has played better on the road of late).
  10. That's it in a nutshell. They tease us with stretches of winning. But, if we just take a realistic approach to the talent and maturity on this roster, then the emotional roller coaster would be evened out a bit. This team is not that good. They can get beat by anyone at any time. Get used to it. Wildcard talk just sets you up for more disappointment, because realistically... this is not a playoff team --- YET.
  11. No... I'm not going to jump off the ledge because we got swept by the Cardinals. They just came off of a great 4-2 road trip. If we go 2-4 on that trip and take this series 2-1, then everyone is still talking wildcard nonsense. Some people need to enjoy (or at least accept) the journey. It's way too long a season to go up and down the roller-coaster with every game.
  12. What's the word on Brady? Is he going to miss time?
  13. Even I said that this was most likely Sheets' last inning unless the Crew went 1-2-3. And I said that before the inning started. I figured he was done, even if there was just a guy on 1st with 2 out.
  14. Yep... I would've preferred to pinch hit for Sheets there. The upside is that I'm pretty confident Ben will keep them at 1 run, while you can't say the same about the pen. We'll see what happens when the Crew bats in the next two innings.
  15. That was most likely Sheets' last inning. Unless we go down 1-2-3 here.
  16. Come on... his bit with Matt Damon in Ocean's Eleven was priceless. I still laugh thinking about it.
  17. Well then we must have BY FAR the most talented team in the league to still be within striking distance of .500. That is truly a testament to our greatness. And NOW Yost gets criticized by the board for NOT bunting. That's a new one. Ned Yost: 0-55 Brewers overcoming Yost's idiocy: 52-0 There is a bright side to a loss like last night's. It's always entertaining to read the game thread.
  18. Can we please make a distinction between the players feeling like they are in a race to try and attain a playoff spot, and those of us who simply don't believe it's going to happen. Certainly, the players should be playing to win. But, I (and others) just don't believe that they'll win enough to make it. Being .500 will not win the wildcard. Being six games over .500 is very unlikely to win the wildcard. I think that's pretty much what we're saying. Even if you believe the Brewers will finish above .500 this season (a very respectable goal), it's unlikely they'll finish far enough above to win the WC.
  19. Wow, rluz... I think we've found something to agree upon. Let's not make a habit of this, OK. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. Please, stop. The fact that we're 5.5 out is not the only thing that matters here. You also have to consider that we have 63 teams to pass to get the WC. The team that gets the WC will have won a minimum of 87 games (and probably 2-3 more than that), IMO. Do you honestly believe that this Brewers team is capable of winning anywhere close to 90 games? We're not even at .500 yet. You can hope all you want, and I'm cheering for it, too. But, to suggest that those of us that choose to be realistic are any less of a fan, is... well... let's just leave it at that, before I say something I'll regret in the morning.
  21. That line struck me as hilarious.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif
  22. I read this whole freaking thread this morning, just to see this comment - or something similar. So, thank you greeg. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Other than a couple of pot shots at Yost, he was left unscathed. I'm impressed. Of course, that could be due to the fact that some actually believe he wasn't managing after his ejection. Since I've been a huge proponent of trading Jenkins for a bag of peanuts, I think it's only fair that I say... boy, he is fun to watch when he's hot. Another great play in the OF, and another big HR. Here's to July never ending.
