Under-the-radar offseason acquisition Shane Drohan had a bumpy start in his Brewers' organization debut. After a walk, steal, and double, Drohan and the Sounds found themselves in a 1-0 hole just two batters into the game. Drohan also issued a walk and hit-by-pitch in the first frame but was able to escape a bases loaded jam by striking out Waukesha native Jarred Kelenic to end the threat. In the bottom of the first, Knights’ starter Jonathan Cannon (81 ERA+ in 228 MLB innings with the White Sox) took the hill to take on a Sounds' lineup that was missing Cooper Pratt as the organization and player finish negotiating his “shocking” extension. With Pratt out, Jett Williams was playing short and leading off. Williams led off the game with a strike out, part of a tough night that saw him go 0 for 5 with three strikeouts and some shaky defense. Steward Berroa, in his season debut, followed Williams with a single, before Tyler Black launched his first homer of the season to quickly give the Sounds the lead: It will be interesting to see if Black can justify a call-up at any point this season, after Andrew Vaughn’s injury and the recent acquisitions of Luis Matos and Damon Keith have cleared and then muddied the path forward for Black. After the Sounds took the lead on Black’s bomb, Drohan was aided by a double play in the second inning, as Williams snagged a ground ball, stepped on second in one motion, but then misfired in the dirt to first baseman Luke Adams. However. Adams was able to secure the out with a scoop to bail Williams out. In the third, Drohan walked two and hit another batter, but was once again able to strike out Kelenic with the bases loaded to escape the inning unscathed. Drohan would pitch into the fourth inning with a final line of 3.1 IP 3 H 2 ER 4 BB 6 K and 2 HBP. In 2025, Drohan only extended himself to 4+ innings six times in his 15 appearances, so it’s worth monitoring whether the Brewers will attempt to stretch Drohan out or use him as a reliever as the season goes on. In the bottom of the third, the Sounds manufactured two runs on some small ball. After singles by Black and Luis Lara, Brock Wilken collected his first AAA RBI with a single. With runners on the corners, Wilken then broke for second in a double steal that saw Lara score on an error by the Charlotte shortstop William Bergolla Jr. In the top of the fourth. The Knights turned the tables on the Sounds' suspect defense. Wilken bobbled what could have been an inning-ending double play on a 105 MPH ground ball, which gave the Knights a run. The Knights then pulled off their own double steal of home to close it to 4-3. Logan Henderson made his season debut in the Sounds’ defensive half of the fifth inning. Henderson looked dominant in his three scoreless innings of work, allowing just a hit and a walk, while striking out five. Henderson threw 28 of 45 pitches for strikes and got 13 whiffs. The Sounds broke the game open in the fifth with a two-run triple off the bat of Greg Jones to make it 6-3. Luke Adams would follow Jones with Adams’ first AAA RBI - a sac fly to close the scoring at 7-3 in the Sounds’ home opener. Sounds Extras If the 28-year-old Jones never makes it back to The Show, his career 1/7 with a HR, SB and .821 OPS is the kind of cup of coffee that gets you written into Field of Dreams. Game Action: Final: Louisville (Reds) 9, Nashville 8 (10 innings) Box Score The Sounds lost a tough one on Saturday night as they blew an early six run lead, before losing the game in the 10th inning. Nashville jumped out to an early lead, as the offense once again put pressure on from the first hitter of the game. After a Daz Cameron HBP and steal, Anthony Seigler brought home the first run of the game with a single. The red-hot Brandon Lockridge followed Seigler with a single, before Tyler Black hit a three-run jack to make it 4-0 Sounds after just four batters. Lockridge and Black each had three hits on the night. Earlier this week on the Brewers Fanatic Podcast, Spencer Michaelis speculated on Black’s future in the organization, suggesting the team and player could both benefit from a fresh start. Despite a nice month of September in which Black has slashed .327/.413/.491, it’s been a mostly forgettable season for the former Top 100 prosect. It's not inconceivable that tonight’s homer could be the last highlight we see from Black as a member of the Brewers’ organization: In the third inning, the Sounds added to their lead with singles from Lockridge and Black in front of an Oliver Dunn two-run triple: Dunn would then score on a sac fly from catcher Eric Haase to give the Sounds a 7-1 lead, which proved to be short-lived. In the bottom of the third, surprise starter Josh Maciejewski, who filled in after Bruce Zimmerman was called up to Milwaukee, gave it all back as he allowed six runs while retiring just one batter in the inning. After the wild back-and-forth to start the game, the Sounds and Bats played the next six innings scoreless, heading to the 10th inning tied at seven. Nate Peterson worked 3.2 scoreless to keep the game tied through the middle innings. Peterson has now recorded three scoreless appearances in September since being promoted to AAA. Justin Yeager followed Peterson with two perfect innings and now has thrown 21.1 innings at Nashville this seasons with just two earned runs allowed. In the top of the 10th, Haase singled in the Manfred Man to give the Sounds the one-run lead. Game Action: Nashville 6, Louisville (Reds) 4 Box Score The Nashville Sounds offense continued to play all the right notes as they drummed out 12 hits to defeat the Louisville Bats on Friday night. Every Sounds’ starter had at least one hit, though the Sounds only managed two extra-base hits on the night on doubles from Anthony Seigler and Oliver Dunn. In the first inning, the Sounds loaded the bases, but were unable to make Bats’ starter TJ Sikkema pay, as Dunn grounded out to end the threat. The Bats responded with a solo tallies in the first and second innings off Sounds’ starter Carlos Rodriguez for an early 2-0 lead after two innings. The Sounds finally broke through in the third inning, when Seigler and Brandon Lockridge led off the inning with singles to set the table for catcher Jeferson Quero, who brought in the first run of the game with a single of his own. Lockridge is now slashing .340/.415/.404 in September at Nashville while going 4/4 in steals as he makes a case for a spot on the Brewers' postseason roster from afar. After a walk to Freddy Zamora, Ethan Murray lined a 103.9 MPH shot off the second baseman to bring in two and give the Sounds a 3-2. The play was initially ruled a base hit for Murray, but was then changed to an error. The broadcast didn’t give us a very good look at the play: From there, Rodriguez was able to lock in for a few innings, before eventually losing the zone in the fifth inning, when he walked four to tie the game at 3-3 before exiting after striking out Scrabble enthusiast Christian Encarnacion-Strand to escape the jam. On the night, Rodriguez line read 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, and 5 K. It will be interesting to see where Rodriguez, who turns 24 in November, fits into the Brewers plans for 2026 after 200+ combined innings in AAA the last two seasons. The score would remain tied until the seventh inning when Murray once again delivered with a two-run single to give the Sounds the lead. The knock was the first hit of the night with runners in scoring position for the Sounds, who finished a whopping 2 for 17 with RISP on the night. The Sounds made the most of their 10 singles and five walks by stealing eight bags on the night, led by lead off man Jared Oliva’s four swipes, which now gives him an International League-leading 57 steals on the season. Sounds’ relivers Blake Holub and Brian Fitzpatrick combined for three flawless innings with three total strikeouts to put the team in position to win the game. In the ninth, the Sounds added an insurance run with Murray once again at the plate, this time in the form of a wild pitch: Julian Merryweather earned his third save of the season in a high wire act to end the night. After getting the first man in the frame, Merryweather allowed a walk, single, single to make it 6-4. A stolen base put the tying runs in scoring position with just one out. Merryweather then got a crucial strikeout and ground out to hold on for the win. The Sounds are back in action Saturday with Bruce Zimmerman set to take the hill in the penultimate game of the season, as the Sounds will go for their fourth consecutive victory in the series. Game Action: Nashville 10, Charlotte (White Sox) 0 Box Score Chad Patrick Hurls Quality Start as Nashville Takes Series Lead over Knights In the lone victory of the day for the Brewers’ minor league affiliates, the Sounds dominated Charlotte from start to finish, scoring in the first inning and never looking back on the way to a shutout. Chad Patrick, in his return to Nashville after two appearances in Milwaukee, looked sharp with six scoreless innings with only 2 hits and three walks allowed. Patrick also struck out five. The Sounds offense saw four players with multi-hit games, including Tyler Black, who hit his third homer of the season to cap the scoring for Nashville: Ernesto Martinez Jr. was one of the players with two hits and an RBI: Nashville has now won three in a row but is 12 games back of the division lead. The Sounds conclude their series with Charlotte on Sunday. Final: Montgomery (Rays) 5, Biloxi 3 (eight innings) Box Score Shuckers Swept By Biscuits in Doubleheader With a rainout Friday, we had to wait an extra day to see Jaron DeBerry take his turn in the rotation this week. Unfortunately DeBerry did not look incredibly crisp with the extra day off as he labored his way through an 87 pitch, four inning outing on Saturday afternoon. DeBerry only surrendered one run, on a solo homer by Will Simpson, one of four hits allowed, while walking and striking out three apiece. DeBerry wasn’t given a whole lot of leeway from the home plate umpire in this outing as DeBerry consistently burned the edges or lower part of the zone, but did not get the calls: The Shuckers squandered a couple early opportunities in the first game of the twin bill. In the first inning, Biloxi loaded the bases with one out, but Luis Lara grounded into a double play to let Biscuits' starter Ty Johnson off the hook. In the second inning, a two-out rally put men in scoring position for Garret Spain, but the right fielder was unable to come through. After the Shuckers fell behind 1-0 on a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, they quickly responded in the top of the fifth for what looked like it could be the winning rally. First, Cooper Pratt beat out an infield single to bring in the tying run. After a Brock Wilken walk, Blake Burke crushed a double to deep center to make it 3-1 Shuckers: Burke finished the game as the only Shuckers player with multiple hits. Alas, the Shuckers gave the lead away in the bottom half of the inning, as Kenny Piper hit a two-run shot following a double by old friend Jadher Areinamo. The game would require an extra inning to determine a winner, which Simpson did emphatically with a walk-off two run blast, his second of the game. Final: Montgomery (Rays) 3, Biloxi 1 (seven innings) Box Score In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, offense was once again at a premium, as Biloxi actually out-hit Montgomery six to three. Just like game one, the scoring didn’t start until the fourth inning, when red-hot Blake Burke launched a solo homer to give the Shuckers the lead: Burke had two hits and a HBP in the game and now has a .981 OPS in 106 plate appearances at AA. No other Shuckers player had an extra base hit in the game, as four other players each tallied a single. Burke’s homer held up until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Montgomery knocked starter Alexander Cornielle from the game. Cornielle exited with two men on and one out. Reliever Zach Peek could not strand the inherited runners, issuing a walk, a single, and a sac fly, which plated three runs, two of which were earned. Biloxi has lost five in a row and will look to avoid the six game sweep on Sunday. Final: Quad Cities (Royals) 8, Wisconsin 2 Box Score Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) It was a rough night in Appleton, as the Brats did not have a ton of positive performances to highlight. Catcher Marco Dinges provided the big blast of the night, with a two-run, opposite field homer that left the bat at 103.4 MPH: Dinges was HBP on the hand in the ninth inning, but stayed in the game. Here’s hoping that won’t cause Dinges to miss time. No other Wisconsin player had an extra base hit, but Jesus Made did collect two singles to stay hot since his promotion to high A ball. The Brats’ run prevention unit was busy all night. After a 1-2-3 first inning, the Wisconsin pitching staff did not have another clean inning all game. The Brats dealt with traffic all night issuing 14 hits and five walks. In the second and third innings, the defense was able to get double plays to escape danger, but Quad Cities then rallied for their eight runs in the fourth through seventh innings. Sunday marks the final home game of the season for Wisconsin, who have lost seven of their last eight games. Final: Delmarva (Orioles) 3, Carolina 2 Box Score Mudcats Rally Falls Short The Mudcats’ run prevention group pitched well enough to win this game, unfortunately an error by first baseman Gery Holguin led to two unearned runs in the third inning and in a one-run defeat that proved to be the difference. 2024 16th round draft pick Jayden Dubanewicz continued his masterful work on the season, needing only 66 pitches (42 strikes) to get through his five innings of two-hit ball. The only blemish against Dubanewicz were the two unearned runs, as he also struck out five without issuing a walk. Dubanewicz now has a 1.64 ERA in 55 innings at Carolina, which came after 23.2 innings in the ACL to start the year. Fellow 2024 draft pick (18th round) Tyler Renz came on in relief of Dubanewicz and nearly duplicated his results. Renz worked four innings, allowing three hits, one run, with five strikeouts and no walks. The 18 year-old Renz spent a little more time in the ACL this season (54 innings there), but has looked impressive in Carolina with a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings. Offensively, the Mudcats only managed five hits. Jose Anderson doubled in a run in the first inning, his third consecutive game with a two-bagger. Catcher Yannic Walther added two singles, one of which knocked in the Mudcats second run in the ninth inning. With the loss, the Mudcats fall two games back of the division lead with a head-to-head series at first-place Fredericksburg looming next week to conclude the season. The Mudcats play their final regular season game in Zebulon on Sunday. Game Action: Final: Nashville 5, Charlotte (White Sox) 4 Box Score Sounds Outlast Knights Behind Rodriguez Heroics From the 'Pen - Quero and Alfaro collect multi-RBI games, Sounds Match Franchise High with Seven Stolen Bases In his fourth outing at Nashville on his rehab assignment, Robert Gasser had mixed results in what could be one of his final appearances before a September call-up to the Brewers. Gasser earned the win as he worked a line of 5IP, 6H, 4ER, 2BB, 9K while throwing 52 of 78 pitches for strikes. Each number in that line was a season-high for Gasser, who came into Friday’s start with 2.05 ERA in 13.2 IP in the month of August at Nashville. Gasser induced an ugly swing on this K: Offensively for Nashville, every single player had a hit, in a total team effort in the victory. Jeferson Quero had one of the key knocks on the night with this hard-hit two-run double: Quero now has 19 RBI in the month of August while sporting an absurd .327/.375/.655 slash line in the month. The rehabbing Rhys Hoskins had two more hits, an RBI, and a steal and he looks ready to join the big league club when rosters expand this Monday. As a team, the Sounds went seven for eight on stolen base attempts in the game, which was pretty impressive as @Joseph Zarr pointed out. In his first game back at Nashville after a brief cameo in Milwaukee, Carlos Rodriguez looked sharp as he worked the final four innings scoreless to earn the save. Rodriguez walked two, but did not allow a hit and only needed 43 pitches to finish the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Biloxi Shuckers game was rained out, which means we have to wait another day to see if Jaron DeBerry can continue his excellence in AA. On the mound, Bishop Leston made his third start of the month for Wisconsin as he continued to build up after missing three months with injury. Letson worked 2.1IP, 4H, 2ER, 1BB and 3K on the night. Check out this pick-off from Letson in the second inning: Nearly the entire defense was involved in that rundown, but damn if the guys don’t look good in the lederhosen. In the final home Friday at Five County Stadium, a crowd of over 5600 fans watched the Mudcats slap together six hits, four of which were doubles, in the loss. One of the lone bright spots for the Mudcats’ offense was Eric Bitonti, who has been a bit of a forgotten man lately as far as Brewers’ corner infield prospects go. Bitnonti entered Friday’s game with a .184/.284./303 slash line in August and had not produced an extra-base hit since August 16. In the first inning Bitonti roped a double to deep centerfield, but was stranded on third after his 17th steal of the season. Bitonti later added a sac fly for his 72nd RBI on the season, which is six more than anyone else in the Carolina League. Besides Friday’s firework show, Bitonti’s sac fly was the only “highlight” put out by the Mudcats’ social media: Jose Anderson and Handelfy Encarnacion each had doubles as they continue to get their sea legs in full-season ball. Mudcats’ starting pitcher Wande Torres deserved better while falling to 1-10 on the season with the loss. Torres threw 44 of 69 pitches for strikes across five innings, allowing just one run, five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts on the night. Game Action: Final: DSL Brewers Blue 6, DSL Royals Fortuna 3 Box Score The DSL Brewers Blue overcame a first inning one-run deficit with rallies in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings to beat the Royals 6-3 on Monday in a seven inning affair. Frandy Lafond supplied the big blast of the game with a two-run homer in the fourth, which came after Sharlisson De La Rosa had socked a RBI triple. Lafond was the only Brewer with multiple hits in the game. Here’s some footage of Lafond in action from last August: The other three runs scored by the Brewers came on an RBI ground out, a botched pick-off, and a wild pitch. Three Brewers accounted for eight of the Brewers’ ten hits. Leadoff man Kenny Fenelon had two hits and two runs scored. Shortstop Cristian Montilla followed Fenelon in the lineup with three hits and two RBI. Alexander Frias stayed hot with two singles, an RBI and a steal. Frias now has a 1.075 OPS in 46 plate appearances in August. Spencer had some highlights of Frias on his X account: Elsewhere around the affiliates: The Carolina Mudcats had an up and down week, as they took three of seven games at Fayetteville with the three wins sandwiched around a four game losing streak that included a 20-3 loss on Friday. Carolina still holds a one game lead in the second half standings despite the losing week, as they head to Salem to take on the Red Sox affiliate. Josh Adamczewski continued to swing a hot bat for the Mudcats, going eight for 18 last week, with seven walks, good for a 1.211 OPS on the week. Josiah Ragsdale, a 2025 seventh round pick, made his debut in Carolina last week and collected three hits, four walks, and two steals in his first five games. On the mound, Melvin Hernandez continued to dominate with five more scoreless innings last week, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six. The 19 year-old Hernandez has to be one of the front runners for Brewers’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year with his sterling 2.27 ERA in 103 IP this season. Jayden Dubanewicz took a tough loss last week, as his own throwing error cost him the only (unearned) run in his four inning appearance last week. Dubanewicz has really blossomed in his first year of pro ball, and is now sporting a 1.76 ERA in 46 innings at Carolina after an early promotion from the ACL. In Appleton, the Timber Rattlers started the week with a lot of buzz, with the High A home debuts for top prospects Jesus Made and Luis Pena, as well as the debut of 2025 first round pick Andrew Fischer. In addition, catching prospect Marco Dinges recently returned to give the Rattlers an imposing top four in the lineup. Unfortunately, after winning two of three to start the week, the weekend ended with a thud as the Rattlers dropped the final three games of the series. Wisconsin will travel to Beloit this week to take on the Sky Carp, who are in first place in the second half standings. Made absolutely dominated the week, looking like the best player on the team while collecting 11 hits in six games for a 1.227 OPS for the week. He’s also riding a nine game hit streak at the moment: Fischer looked comfortable in his debut with five hits, three RBI and three steals in four games. Pena supplied some power for Wisconsin, socking two bombs and driving in seven runs, though he did strike out eight times in four games. You can find the weekly Rattler pod here: In AA ball, Biloxi and Columbus had a wild series that made the Brewers-Reds series tame by comparison by combining for 88 runs in the six game series, with the teams splitting the series. Five Shuckers – Cooper Pratt (1.395), Blake Burke (1.254), Luis Lara (1.233), Matthew Wood (1.139) and Garrett Spain (1.080) had OPS over 1.000 for the week. Pratt had three homers last week to give him eight on the season and he also knocked in eight runs, which was second to Wood’s nine RBIs for the week. Check out one of Pratt’s homers and his Tuesday walk-off hit here: Burke clubbed two more homers to give him four in 14 games at Biloxi after just five homeruns in 95 games with Wisconsin. Here’s an oppo taco to start your Tuesday: Jaron DeBerry was one of the lone bright spots for a Biloxi run prevention unit that allowed 39 runs in six games last week. DeBerry made two starts and worked 11IP with a 13:2 K:BB ratio with four runs allowed. The Shuckers host Chattanooga this week. Finally at AAA, the Nashville Sounds split their six games with Durham last week. Catcher Jeferson Quero led the way for the Sounds’ offense with eight hits, two homers, and nine RBI in the week. For August, Quero has a 1.325 OPS in 30 plate appearances. One of Quero’s homers last week might have flown over the bull: The rehabbing Jake Bauers hit homers in first two games at Nashville last week. Unless the Brewers want to option down Anthony Seigler, Bauers may have to wait until September 1 to get the call back to the major league club. The big development on the bump for Nashville was the AAA debut of Tate Kuehner last week. Kuehner took a tough luck loss last week as he worked into the sixth inning scoreless before allowing a solo homerun for his only run allowed. At this point, Kuehner may be the front runner for Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the year with 2.46 ERA in 106IP across two levels. Kuehner’s 116 strikeouts are the most across all Brewers’ minor league pitchers who have not pitched at the MLB level this year. The Sounds host the Louisville Bats this week as both teams are mired in the middle of the pack in the International League standings. On a personal note... This might be my last minor league link report for the season, with no more DSL games to recap, and no other minor league games played on Mondays. Game Action: Final: DSL Brewers Blue 3, DSL Padres Brown 2, seven innings as scheduled Box Score The Padres jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Brewers’ starter Josue Toledo committed a two-out fielding error to give the Padres an extra opportunity. Padres shortstop Tom Guerrero grounded a two-out double to right field to open the scoring. The Brewers responded in the bottom of the first ignited by a Carlos Done single and Brailyn Antunez hit-by-pitch. After a double steal by Done and Antunez, Yoneiker Lugo plated a run with a sacrifice fly. Brewers PD X account offered us a look at the sizzling hot Done last week: In the third inning, Lugo would knock in Joan Gutierrez on a single to tie the game. The score remained 2-2 until the fifth inning when Done hit a sac fly to score Frandy Lafond, who had led off the inning with a double. The Brewers held on to the one run margin to win 3-2 in the seven inning contest. After the two unearned runs in the first inning, the Brewers run prevention did not allow another run. Toledo went four innings, with just three hits and one walk, while striking out two. Lonell Downs earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings with two hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. The DSL Brewers Blue are now 26-23 on the season. Final: DSL Dodgers Mega 4, DSL Brewers Gold 3, seven innings as scheduled Box Score All the scoring in this game came in two rallies, with the Dodgers breaking out for a four-run first inning versus Brewers’ starter Ruben Saldana, and the Brewers rallying for three runs in the fourth inning. Saldana was unable to complete the first inning, working two-thirds of an inning and allowing just one hit – a grand slam – while issuing four walks. Brewers’ relievers Saul Sanchez and Daniel Garcia set down 11 in a row through the middle innings of the game, with Garcia doing the heavy lifting with four scoreless and hitless innings to close the game. The Brewers did all their damage in the fourth, started by catcher Isais Chavez’s fifth homerun of the season. Alexander Frias and Eryks Rivero followed with back-to-back doubles to make it 4-2, and then Joandrew Pena singled to reduce the deficit to one run. For the 17-year old Frias, it was his fifth multi-hit game of August, raising his OPS to .852 in 78 at-bats. The Brewers actually outhit the Dodgers 7-3, but issued seven walks to the Dodgers’ one. The DSL Brewers Gold fell to 23-27 with the loss. The DSL season wraps up on August 19, so just a handful games left on the island for 2025. Elsewhere around the minor league affiliates: In Carolina, the Mudcats won three of five games in a potential playoff preview with first-half champ Lynchburg in yet another rain-shortened series. The first place Mudcats will have a chance to expand their lead over third place Fayetteville when they travel to take on the Astros’ affiliate this week in a seven game series. Jose Anderson and Eric Bitonti each had two homeruns for the Cats last week, providing the only long balls for the week. The two also combined for 16 strikeouts in their 35 ABs with just three walks. Bitonti’s 18th homerun of the season is six more than the next closest player in the Carolina League: Shortstop Tyler Rodriguez added six hits and three steals, good for a .974 OPS for the week. Jayden Dubanewicz had another nice outing for the Mudcats on Sunday, going 4.1 innings scoreless in relief despite four walks. Dubanewicz has allowed one earned run or fewer in his last seven appearances in Carolina, and since being promoted to Low A in June, he’s sporting a 1.93 ERA in 42 IP with a 27:10 K:BB ratio. However, he has allowed seven unearned runs in that stretch. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers also won their rain-shortened series 3-2 this week at Peoria. The big Brewers' prospect news was the promotion of Jesus Made and Luis Pena last week, and both players blasted homers early, with Pena going yard in his first AB and Made waiting until his second game to go deep. Made led the team with six hits and five RBI for the series. Both Made and Pena will be making their Appleton debuts this week, which should draw crowds to Fox Cities Stadium despite the team residing in last place in the Midwest League. Not to be lost in the shuffle, fast-rising catching prospect Marco Dinges also returned to the Rattlers’ lineup on Saturday and was on base three times with a hit and two walks. Wisconsin pitcher Tanner Gillis earned Pitcher of the Week honors for this line last week: The weekly Rattler Review podcast can be found here: The Timber Rattlers weren’t the only affiliate with an exciting promotion this week, as Blake Burke played in his first full AA series in Biloxi and quickly mashed two homers and two doubles for a 1.162 OPS. Burke’s Saturday homerun was his first homer since June 29, a drought of 30 games, and his second shot of the week was an impressive 411 foot blast to dead center: We're just about to the early end of the Brock Wilken 8-10 week injury timeline, so it'll be interesting to see what the Shuckers do with all their big burly sluggers come playoff time, if Wilken and Luke Adams indeed return this season. The Shuckers split their six game series with Knoxville and will host Columbus this week. Finally, the Nashville Sounds are going through it as a team right now, after losing all six games last week, they have now lost 10 of their last 11 games. The Sounds managed just 11 runs in their six losses last week and did not hit a single homerun. The team combined for a .478 OPS for the week, dead last in the 20 team International League, and struck out in 34% of their at-bats. One of the lone bright spots for the week was the appearance of Robert Gasser on his rehab assignment. Gasser started Friday’s game and tossed three scoreless innings, despite three hits, a walk, and a HBP. Two of the hits were infield hits on soft contact and the defense did not help Gasser out much, as they also committed an error behind the Brewers’ 26 year-old lefty. Gasser should have a few more rehab appearances before heading back to the big league club to attempt to carve out a role for the postseason roster. Nashville travels to Durham this week, where they scored 41 runs in a six game set back in early July. Perhaps hitting the bull is just what the team needs to pull out of its’ slump. View full article
