  1. I just want someone to love me like Murphy loves Ashby
  2. Unfortunately I don't think Hall is a major league pitcher. Not our best trade.
  3. The 50% K rate for Mitchell is probably not sustainable for effective hitting.
  4. Those 2 days when Joey could hit were a lot of fun
  5. Fastball becomes hittable once hitters realize he can't throw anything else in the zone.
  6. My only long term concern with Sproat is whether the fastball plays at all at the majors. It's fast but seems to otherwise have no life to it.
  7. Not helpful to have Quero behind the plate with a struggling young pitcher
  8. I like Sproat and think he has a bright future, but this one may not last an inning.
  9. With bases loaded, that has to be a challenge from Turang. It's close, but I think it was a ball.
  10. Maybe it's just me, but I see Jett having a shot at CF longterm, and I suspect that's why we wanted him. He definitely has the arm and defensive chops for it. I'm not sold on Mitchell ever being a thing, and Perkins is never going to be able to hit. I think Ortiz gets a lot of runway this season to figure it out, and I'm guessing they see some combination of Pratt/Made as the Ortiz replacement down the road.
  11. It's a good move for the Cubs. But I agree that he is a downgrade on what they had with Tucker last year. This isn't 2019 Bregman. Statcast tells the story of a professional hitter who knows exactly what he's doing at the plate, but doesn't impact the ball quite like he used to. Good player but not a needle mover that should freak anyone out.
  12. Recognizing that there was bad defense and luck at play today, there was always going to be regression with Woodruff that we've been seeing the past few outings. I still think he can be a decent and effective pitcher, but hard to maintain elite or very good status throwing 92 mph in the modern MLB with average offspeed offerings.
  13. Did not realize how miserable the parking operation at Appleton is.
  14. Clearly the front office disagrees because they're essentially paying Miller $7.5 mil the rest of the season. Now that money is essentially evened out with Cortes gone, but they still could've been cheap and saved that money.
  15. We get Miller without having to give any prospects up, instead taking on the rest of Montgomery's contract for the season
  16. Look, we all know SS is a major issue, and it's not what we foresaw before the season. I'm sure the front office sees it just as we do. The problem is that this deadline offered no meaningful upgrades at that position or at 2B either, if moving Turang over was even an option mid-season. While I wish we were able to do more, we can take solace in knowing that none of the other NL teams besides the Padres made earth shattering moves that will drastically affect our chances. And I do believe this sets us up with the best farm system in the league that will be fully capable of pulling off a major move in the off-season at SS or another position of need, when the actual star level players become available. But I'm not judging anyone who is incredibly disappointed at today's results.
  17. They said they were all in but didn't declare it
  18. They said they were all in but didn't declare it
  19. Where's the proof that what the Padres have been doing is working? Made it to one NLCS, which was completely uncompetitive. Wouldn't the Padres be a better team right now with Wood and Abrams? Seems like this desire to go "all in" is emotion based rather than objective. I'm not saying to do nothing or that I love how this trade deadline has gone, but we can still remain objective about our chances.
  20. Nothing earth shattering has happened from the Brewers point of view. Cubs have done essentially nothing. Padres aren't our problem to deal with until playoffs. Rest of the NL has made only subtle moves.
  21. Let's give the Angels some credit. I think they may have the 2nd worst farm system ahead of the Padres, at least temporarily.
  22. You're not getting one of the best young players in the game without Made or Pena (or both), plus everything else you listed (or more). I would send Made out for Henderson in a heartbeat for the record.
  23. Does not. May have been by design to stay within the bonus pool or just a product of not having anyone to give that extra money to. My guess is the former, that the organizational mandate is to not use the overage money. I don't believe we used it last year either.
  24. Yeah we're definitely not picking up a $12 mil option for him. Believe it's a $500k buyout.
  25. Areinamo was going to be my guess. Having a good year but no where to go in the system.
