  1. A name that was mentioned in a recent Brewers postgame show was Casey Mize (RHP) from Detroit. Would be a rental starter, but shouldn’t have quite the same Skubal price tag to acquire. Doesn’t get you a top of rotation pitcher, but could solidify the #3/#4 slot in the rotation.
  2. Brewers have one remaining: the extra-inning challenge. Probably considered not worth risking it up by four runs. Save it for pitching.
  3. Gotta win this one now after Anderson pulls that off.
  4. Pratt hit into a fielder’s choice on the failed sacrifice bunt. Bauers was thrown out returning to third base.
  5. Hamilton can’t make that type of baserunning error to run into the tag.
  6. Bauers’ home runs are rarely cheapies.
  7. A couple better innings for Gasser. 50 pitches through 3 innings pitched. Keeping that up should allow him to get to 5+ tonight. Need to target at least 6.
  8. Perkins, Frelick, Pratt, and Ortiz hitting 6 through 9. Need some unexpected “Sunday Lineup” batting luck.
  9. Halfway through the season with 50 wins. Lost a series and an opportunity to extend the divisional lead when throwing your top starters. Lets the Cubs hang around in the division race. Seeing some of the warts on the team that does have a .617 winning percentage and 2nd-best in the league standings. Need to figure out the RISP batting situation. Probably at least one arm short in the pitching staff right now. Might be the same with a bat in the lineup.
  10. Solid defense at shortstop so far. Also allows Hamilton to play third base, where his defense looks to be more than adequate. That compounding effect is good. As long as the offense is passable, it can work for most of the regular season, even if adding a bat for the stretch run and playoffs would be helpful.
  11. Bit lucky that Hamilton’s triple didn’t bounce out of play.
  12. Barely escaped a triple play, then Mitchell goes yard. Quite the swing!
  13. Bunting for a hit. Could almost bunt it hard into left field with the massive shift by the third baseman.
  14. Quero’s injury hurts in not having another catcher pushing Contreras. Maybe that development still happens for Quero, though the throwing skill looks likely not to be pre-injury top class.
  15. Going to have to bring back the “That’s Brewers Offense(TM)” slogan.
