  1. You'd have to find a spot of the 40-man roster to do that. Might be difficult, especially if you need a catcher (and Nottingham isn't ready to come back).
  2. I know some teams don't like too many guys in the dugout, but I'd use every resource that was available to me. Broxton, Santana, Orf, Wilkerson, Houser, Asher, Saladino, Santana, Woodruff, Nottingham - probably missed someone. Without a question I'd add a third catcher. It's foolish not to. So if Nottingham isn't healthy, I'd move him to the 60-day DL and bring up Bandy or Bethancourt. They should also look at adding guys to the 40-man roster if a spot can be made -- guys that they intend to add this off season - and can potentially help them this year. Ramirez is a guy that comes to mind - a lefty specialist. To me, anyone that can help should be added.
  3. Yes, September call ups count against service time. In the case of Hiura, if you had him up for three weeks, you'd then want to delay his call up next year by an equivalent time frame.
  4. Clancy, for voting purposes, I will take Perrin off your list (since he has been traded), and bump everyone up. But you don't have to change your list - I have that covered in voting tabulation. This is another good example of why to include an extra player or two on your list.
  5. HotCorner35, if you want to add a name to your list, I'll replace Jon Perrin.
  6. Nice article with lots of quotes from Corey: Brewers outfield prospect Corey Ray flexing his muscle at the plate https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/08/07/brewers-outfield-prospect-corey-ray-flexing-his-muscle-plate/919000002/
  7. Only one day left to vote! Get your ballot in by EOD tomorrow (Wednesday, August 8). Thanks.
  8. Example of why I love it when people put an extra guy or two. No #10. By having the extra guys I was able to just bump the 11-26 guys up a spot. Problem solved.

  10. That's awesome. A Drake is another name for a Dragon. Dragons are hard to kill. Long live The Drake. All-Star game next year. For what team, I don't know. But dragons are magical creatures. It's destiny.

  12. Final: Jacksonville 5, Biloxi 1 Neidert Fans Career-High 13 to Beat Shuckers Coulter Homers in Loss By Spencer Siegel / Biloxi Shuckers (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Box Score Biloxi bats were in the toilet again on Saturday. 13. While the sample size is very small (59 ABs), I'm really happy to see the kid's got a good eye at the plate. 12 walks vs 7 strikeouts thus far. That's pretty impressive. 9 out of 10 in SBs as well. I'll be excited to get him for a full year in 2019. If he does well at Helena, I could see him starting in Appleton.
  14. Yeah, Dickey could have come back. Just decided it was time to wrap things up.
  15. I don't believe this is correct. As noted in my previous post, over the next three years, he's due $35M a year in salary, plus he gets a $15M annually as part of his original signing bonus. However, ALL of the salary ($105M total) is deferred. The only cash he gets the next three years is the $15M bonus money - which he gets each year.
  16. Scherzer's contract is weird. He is scheduled to get $105M over the next three years - or $35M annually. But ALL of it is deferred. It is paid out from 2022 to 2028 at $15M a year. It's important to understand this is salary - not bonus money. It's pure salary. But there's more. From 2019-2021, Scherzer gets $15M each year as part of his original signing bonus - which he agreed to in 2015. This is NOT salary. It's a signing bonus. I think the signing bonus would be owed by the original signing team (the Nationals), meaning if he was traded, a team wouldn't owe Scherzer anything from 2019 through 2021 (since salary is all deferred). The team getting Scherzer would then pay all the deferred salary - which again, is $15M annually for seven straight years beginning in 2022. The Nats would pay the $15M bonus money, which is owed from 2019-2021. Does that make sense? Bonus money paid out from 2019-21 is owed by the original signing team (Nationals). Salary earned from 2019-21 is owed by whatever team controls Scherzer - but isn't paid out until 2022-2018 - in $15M installments. I think that's right. The way the contract was structured, it nets Scherzer $15M a year for 14 straight years (although the contract length is only 7 years). The total payout is $210M. It was a pretty sweet deal. The guy's contract takes him through his age 36 season. At that point, he can retire and still rake in $15M a year for seven more years. If he wants to keep playing, he's free to do so, getting paid by the his previous team and his new club.
  17. Final: Biloxi 3, Jacksonville 0 Supak's Six-Inning Shutout Seals Shuckers Win Erceg Provides Go-Ahead Hit in 3-0 Victory By Spencer Siegel / Biloxi Shuckers (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Box Score Trey Supak and company tossed a five hit shutout to lead the Shuckers to a 3-0 victory over the Jumbo Shrimp. At the plate, the Shuckers were pretty quiet (just five hits on the day), but they came through when they had the chance. Lucas Erceg had a two-run single in the 6th to put Biloxi in the lead, while Clint Coulter added a solo HR. 20. Welcome, Smichaelis9. Glad you enjoyed playing along. The prospect poll is always fun.
  21. As several people have noted, the club will monitor some of the overpriced pitchers on the market, such as Jordan Zimmerman, and once they have cleared waivers, look to make moves as needed. A lot will depend on injuries, as well as the progress of Peralta, plus the status of Davies. Freddy has been pretty erratic, and if he continues to struggle with his command, they might decide to bring someone in to take his spot. But some of that could be mitigated if Davies comes back. But I'm not counting on the latter at this point.
  22. Yeah, this poll is a big shift with all the recent moves and graduations. It was bound to happen. We traded for a lot of prospects in the last 2-3 years - now it's time for those guys to move up to the majors, get traded or fade away. I also think you're going to see an influx of Latin American players. The recently traded Carmona is an example. Perhaps I'm wrong about this, but we seemed to have really invested a lot more in the Latin American market in recent years - and those dividends are going to start paying off. You might see a few of these guys sneak into the Top 25 this year. In reality, an 'in flux' system is probably the norm. Every year, a couple of guys graduate to the majors, a few players get traded or fail, and we had a few prospects in the draft or via a trade, and some guys emerge from the lower minors. Ideally, it's a constant stream of talent to the big league club.
  23. Thanks for getting things started! Always fascinating to see the first few lists.
