  1. Keuchel is a guy that I think gets a bit overlooked (including by myself). Cy Young 2015, bad 2016 (had shoulder cuff inflammation that bothered him all year), good 2017 (but missed 1/4 of the season with nerve issues in neck), very solid 2018. Assuming he stays healthy the rest of the year, he'll reach 200 IP. He's never been a hard thrower, but his velocity is pretty much at what it was a few years ago. His average fastball is around 90mph. I'm not sure if that bodes well for him going forward - or if it makes him susceptible to doing really bad if he loses a tick or two off the FB. Also, his K rate has steadily dropped over the last few years. I don't see him as a top of the rotation type - but a solid #2 or #3. Nothing wrong with that. I guess the big thing will be cost. Houston might be reluctant to give him a huge deal. Cole and Verlander are FAs after 2020. And guys like Correa and Springer are going to be making a lot.
  2. Final: Biloxi 3, Pensacola 2 Shuckers Come Back On The Road To Top Pensacola 3-2 Biloxi Now One Win From Advancing To Southern League Championship Series By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers Keston Hiura delivered the go-ahead double for the Shuckers, his second of the night, to give Biloxi a 3-2 win over the Blue Wahoos. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Box Score It wasn't the prettiest of wins for Biloxi - but still a win. The Shuckers are up 2-1 in their playoff series vs Pensacola. On Friday, the Shuckers had managed just two hits, a walk and one run in the first seven innings. Biloxi had kept the game within a run despite issuing nine walks, giving up five hits, and committing two errors on the night. Then it was time for the Pensacola staff to implode. Blue Wahoo pitchers gave up four walks and a double, which lead to two runs and a Biloxi lead - which they would not relinquish. As noted, Biloxi pitchers gave up a lot of base runners on the night. Trey Supak walked six in only three innings. Thankfully, Pensacola batters left 12 runners on base. Keston Hiura had two of Biloxi's three hits, including the key 8th inning double. Troy Stokes, Jr. had the other. The Shuckers and Blue Wahoos return to Biloxi tomorrow (Saturday, September 8) for game four in the series. A victory by Biloxi would move them on to the Southern League Championship Series. Batting Corey Ray: 0-2, 2BB Troy Stokes Jr.: 1-3, 2B, BB Keston Hiura: 2-4, 2 2B Pitching Trey Supak: 3.0 IP, 1 ER, 6BB, 5K Conor Harber: 3.1 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 2BB, 4K Jeff Ames: 0.2 IP, 1 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 2K Jon Olczak: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K Nate Griep: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 1BB, 0K, Save Biloxi Game Log Two runs for the come-from-behind victory. Biloxi Top of the 8th Max McDowell walks. Gabriel Noriega out on a sacrifice bunt, first baseman Gavin LaValley to second baseman Shed Long. Max McDowell to 2nd. Pitching Change: Jesus Reyes replaces Robinson Leyer, batting 9th. Corey Ray walks. Troy Stokes Jr. walks. Max McDowell to 3rd. Corey Ray to 2nd. Trent Grisham out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jose Siri. Max McDowell scores. Corey Ray to 3rd. Keston Hiura doubles (2) on a sharp line drive to center fielder Jose Siri. Corey Ray scores. Troy Stokes Jr. to 3rd. Pitching Change: Alejandro Chacin replaces Jesus Reyes, batting 9th. Lucas Erceg walks. Blake Allemand grounds out sharply to first baseman Gavin LaValley.
  3. Corbin has had a really nice season. I was skeptical of the guy when he was discussed in our trade forum, but he's certainly stepped up his game. At 29, he's still in his prime, plus he's left-handed, which may appeal to certain clubs, including Milwaukee. I'm guessing he's going to get a really deal. It just takes one team to overpay. I'm betting that team in the Yankees. 5 years/$100-110M. It seems kind of nuts to give someone with such an erratic record that much money - but like I said, it only takes one team to do this - and I think the Yankees are primed to go after a starter. I'm betting Kershaw does a new deal with the Dodgers. 5-years/$175M ($35M a year). Just my guess.

  5. Missoula 4, Helena 2 Helena finished up the season by being swept by the Missoula Osprey. On Thursday, Helena had 11 hits, but managed only two runs (mostly because they went 1-10 with runners in scoring position). Helena ended up 36-40 for the season. 6. Pensacola: 4, Biloxi 1 Biloxi lost game 2 in the first round of the playoffs. They managed only six hits and no walks on the day - which translated into only one run. The Shucker pitching staff, lead by Thomas Jankins, was good, but not good enough. 8. Final: Biloxi 5, Pensacola 3 McDowell Plays Hero with a 12th Inning Winner in Game One of South Division Championship Signature Shuckers Comeback Caps Exciting Start to the Playoffs By Spencer Siegel / Biloxi Shuckers Max McDowell, the last man on the bench, delivered a ground-rule double to win Game One for the Shuckers in the 12th Biloxi Box Score Biloxi got a bases-loaded double from Max McDowell in the 12th inning to secure a 5-3 victory over Pensacola in the first game of their playoff series. The Shuckers racked up 14 hits and four walks on the day, but went 2-14 with runners in scoring position, and could only manage three runs through the first nine innings. Still, they came back from a 3-1 deficit, scoring a run in the 7th and 8th innings to tie the game at three. On the mound, Biloxi pitchers were very good - the main blemishes being home runs surrendered by Zack Brown and Jeff Ames. Biloxi pitchers (Brown, Ames, Olczak, Griep, Ponce) gave up only eight hits and two walks in 12 innings. At the plate, Trent Grisham, Tyler Heineman, Weston Wilson and Blake Allemand each had a pair of hits. Lucas Erceg had the team's only home run. The Shuckers now lead the series 1-0. Batting Weston Wilson: 2-4, BB Trent Grisham: 2-5, 2B Lucas Erceg: 1-5, HR Tyler Heineman: 2-5 Blake Allemand: 2-3, 2B Max McDowell: 1-1, 2B (game winning hit) Pitching Zack Brown: 6.0 IP, 3 hits, 3 ER, 1BB, 5K Jeff Ames: 1.0 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 0BB, 1K Jon Olczak: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K Nate Griep: 2.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K Cody Ponce: 2.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 1BB, 3K, Win Biloxi Game Log Biloxi comes up big in extra innings for the win. Trent Grisham to 3rd. Keston Hiura to 2nd. Joel Bender intentionally walks Lucas Erceg. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Max McDowell replaces Cody Ponce. Max McDowell hits a ground-rule double (1) on a fly ball to left-center field. Trent Grisham scores. Keston Hiura scores. Lucas Erceg to 3rd.
  9. Final: Missoula 7, Helena 2 Seismic Sixth Shakes Brewers Missoula Breaks Tie With Six Run Sixth Inning By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena lost to Missoula on Wednesday, 7-2. Michele Vassalotti was roughed up by the Osprey, giving up 11 hits and five runs in 5.1 innings of work. Jesus Lujano and Leugim Castillo lead the Helena bats with three hits each. Luis Avila had two hits. Unfortuantely, Helena went 2-13 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 men on base. Helena wraps up the season tomorrow evening at Missoula. 10. In 1982, my dad sent in for WS tickets - like Briggs described. We got four tickets to the game five. First base side - fairly far back. Still remember the win - fans storming the field, etc.
  11. 5th page for this thread and we are an hour and a half from game time. Wow. People are excited.
  12. Zach Brown on the mound for the Shuckers as they begin a five game playoff series vs Pensacola.

  14. Missoula: 3, Helena: 2 With the game tied in the bottom of the 9th, Helena up a run courtesy of two singles, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Caden Lemons had a nice game going five innings and surrendering only one run. He struck out seven and walked two. Helena batters managed only eight hits and one walk, while striking out 16 times. 15. 8 walks. That must just give the manager an ulcer.
  16. September baseball at its finest. I've never seen your signature before. Crom appreciates it. He laughs at your four winds Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge against the Cubs and Cardinals! And if you do not listen, then the HELL with you!
  17. If Braun could get on a hot streak... let's start it now.
  18. I'd say Thames has been fine. He has obviously been supplanted by Aguilar, but when he's played, he's produced (for the most part). The injuries are troublesome. I'm guessing he's a reserve 1B/DH/PH next year. A power bat on the bench is always nice. And if anything happens to Aguilar, I'm comfortable running him out there (at least against right handers).
  19. He also has the worst walk rate in all of baseball - if he qualified. If you looked at pitchers with 70 innings or more pitched, he has the 8th worst rate. This is what makes Freddy so interesting. If he can just harness his command a little more, he could be special. He has never shown to have that ability on a consistent basis in the minors - or majors.

  21. I'll go: Chacin, Anderson, Davies, Nelson and Burnes. Peralta will be next in line, and will get plenty of opportunity. Chacin, Anderson, Davies, Nelson - Chacin and Anderson are not going to change much. They are what they are - which are solid 3-4 type starters. That's great to have. Davies is probably there as well, but after struggling much of 2018, we will see how he plays out the rest of the year. Like Anderson and Chacin, in 2016-17, he showed he's a solid mid-rotation guy. As for Nelson, he offers more upside, but we will have to see how he comes back from his injury. If he can, he offers the highest ceiling, and thus should be given lots of time and opportunity to round into his 2017 form. Burnes - he has a nice repertoire and has had some success at the ML level. Maybe he won't be a #1 level pitcher, but the overall package is very good. Also, he will be 'safer' than a guy like Peralta, who has issue at times with his command. Plus, he will be cheap for several years, which is always a positive for the Brewers. Peralta - I think the team will continue to start him. He will get plenty of opportunities with Davies and Nelson coming off of injuries, plus with whatever injuries arise. Freddy offers some really interesting upside - but with his erratic command, it may be a struggle to tap into that potential. Miley - I don't think the Crew should overpay for a guy who has been erratic of the the last few years, but I can understand the attraction. Veteran left hander (which we don't have in the rotation), very good in 2018. That would be nice to have. If he could be had on a one or two year deal at a reasonable price, I'd be fine with bringing him back. But I'm guessing someone overpays for him, so we will move on. Just a guess. Woodruff - I wouldn't be surprised if Woodruff ends up in the bullpen next season, with the potential to move him back to the rotation in 2020. Again, just a guess. FA signings - A reclamation project - like Miley was in 2018 - is always a strong possibility. Find a guy who will take a minor league deal, and stash him at AAA until (and if) needed. I don't see a starting pitcher signing. The best ones will command too much money, and we don't need average starters. We have a lot of options who project to be averagish. No need to overspend on one. Trade - The Brewers will kick the tires on the usual suspects, Thor, deGrom, MadBaum, but the price will likely be too high (Hiura, Burnes, more). EDIT: I forgot all about Guerra. Oh well. He'll figure in somewhere.
  22. I guess I'm not going to get too worked up about all the Cub fans at Miller Park. It happens. There are a ton of Cub fans in southern Wisconsin. The number of Cub fans compared to Brewer fans is massive. It makes sense they take advantage of the chance to see a good team (and they've got a good team) when they come to Milwaukee. I'm sure the people in Minnesota get annoyed at the Badger fans who fill up their stadium whenever we play football there. I remember the alumni association had a block party with thousands of people - in downtown St. Paul. That's gotta sting for the Gopher fans - but it happens. Is it annoying to have all the Cub fans at Miller Park? Absolutely. But it's not the responsibility of Brewer fans to specifically buy tickets to these games, just so we can have more fans there than the Cubs. I've never considered buying tickets to a game against the Cubs so as to pack the stadium with more Crew fans. I base things on my schedule, my wife's schedule, the schedules of people who might be going with us, etc., etc.
