  1. We are up to 38 submissions - most ever! Keep things coming. You have through Monday to get things submitted. Thanks. Edit:Reilly, not only are there a lot of lists, but they're quite varied. You're going to have your hands full sorting them into the final rankings!
  2. Sky Sox Comeback Falls Short 5-4 Reed homers as Sky Sox winning streak stopped. By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox Colorado Springs Box Score Newcomer Andrew Susac had a chance to he a hero in his second game with the Sky Sox. Alas, with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and his team down by one run, Susac grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the game. The Sky Sox struggled much of night at the plate, going 2-11 with runners in scoring position and stranding 11. The pitching staff gave up five runs on 10 hits and six walks. The game’s highlights included Michael Reed, who slugged a solo home run (his 5th on the season) to lead off the bottom of the 5th, and Kyle Wren, who had two hits, a walk and a stolen base. Wren in now hitting .362. Andrew Susac had his first hit for Colorado Springs, knocking in a run with a single in the 8th. Lewis Brinson continued his exceptional play, adding two hits, driving in a pair of runs and stealing a base. After a 0-17 stretch, 1B Garrett Cooper has gone 7-16 to up his average to .231. Colorado Springs Game Log Down 5-2, the Sky Sox got two runs in the 9th to pull within one, but couldn’t get the winning run across the plate. Col. Springs Bottom of the 9th Josmil Pinto walks. Michael Reed called out on strikes. Yadiel Rivera strikes out swinging. With Kyle Wren batting, Josmil Pinto advances to 2nd on defensive indifference. Kyle Wren singles on a fly ball to left fielder Arismendy Alcantara. Josmil Pinto to 3rd. Nate Orf hit by pitch. Kyle Wren to 2nd. Lewis Brinson singles on a line drive to center fielder Jaycob Brugman. Josmil Pinto scores. Kyle Wren scores. Nate Orf to 3rd. Pitching Change: Eduard Santos replaces J. B. Wendelken. Garrett Cooper walks. Lewis Brinson to 2nd. Andrew Susac grounds into a force out, shortstop Chad Pinder to second baseman Joey Wendle. Garrett Cooper out at 2nd.
  3. The weird thing was Heyman totally based his grade on the Lucroy trade. He said nothing of the Smith for Bickford deal. Here's the article: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/inside-baseball-with-jon-heyman/heyman-grading-mlb-teams-trade-deadline/
  4. Congrats, and welcome! Enjoy your Twitter contributions, and looking to having you as a member of the forum. I second the welcome. I love seeing people get involved.
  5. We have around 30 ballots already. Let's keep them coming. I'd love to break the record of ballots, which I think is 36. Thanks, everyone.
  6. If you go over the ESPN, Stearns talked about 10 minutes with Buster Olney (everyone's favorite) about the trades and as well as Arcia. There's audio you can stream. He basically said the same thing about Arcia - they feel he's ready, his next step is to get to the majors, spend 60 games learning what it is to be a big leaguer, that sort of thing.
  7. I think someone would, but if he did go through, I wouldn't be surprised. But it only takes one team to go after him and be willing to take on his contract. Who would claim his is another interesting exercise in speculation, but it wouldn't just be with this year in mind. Teams looking to add a bat for the next few years might want him. But just a guess.
  8. Brinson Slams Sky Sox Past Sounds 4-1 Dominant Hader strikes out eight as Sky Sox win fourth straight. By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox Colorado Springs Box Score Lewis Brison hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning to lead the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 4-1 win over the Nashville Sounds. Josh Hader worked six strong innings, giving up only one run on five hits. He struck out eight batters while walking none. He threw 89 pitches, 61 for strikes. Sam Freeman worked a scoreless 7th to get the win, while Damien Magnifico didn’t give up any runs in the final two innings to get the save. The big story of the night was newly acquired Brinson, who had two hits, including his grand slam. Nate Orf added two hits and walk. While Hader didn’t get the win, it was encouraging to see him have such a good game in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs Game Log Col. Springs Bottom of the 7th Pitching Change: Tucker Healy replaces Chris Smith. Yadiel Rivera strikes out swinging. Eric Young Jr. singles on a pop up to third baseman Renato Nunez. Kyle Wren singles on a line drive to center fielder Brett Eibner. Eric Young Jr. to 3rd. With Nate Orf batting, Kyle Wren steals (14) 2nd base. Nate Orf walks. Lewis Brinson hits a grand slam (1) to left field. Eric Young Jr. scores. Kyle Wren scores. Nate Orf scores. Garrett Cooper grounds out to first baseman Matt Olson. Andrew Susac strikes out swinging.
  9. We basically set the parameters as 50 IP - and not strictly service time (which isn't always easy to find out). And it was, in my opinion, more of a common sense decision. Wang had only 17 IP in 2014, and it just seemed kind of odd to not treat him as a prospect. So, like I said, I just went with the 50 IP limit as a demarcation point, thus making him eligible.
  10. One problem is that several of the big market teams have exceeded the luxury tax threshold last year, and will end up paying significant penalties by crossing that line again this year (it was $189M last year - don't know what it will be in 2016). The Dodgers and Yankees are in the 50% tax bracket on any overage (they've crossed the line four years in a row or more). The Red Sox and Giants also paid the luxury tax last year as well, so anything over the threshold will cost them a 30% premium since it will only be their second year in a row crossing the line. If a team crosses the threshold for the first time, the penalty is 17.5% of the overage. This doesn't mean a team won't claim Braun, but it might give a few of them pause to do so. The Giants, for instance, already have around $160M dedicated to about 12 guys next year, and they just might not want the additional salary. Again, doesn't mean they wouldn't do it, but they might think long and hard about it. In the end, I agree that someone would likely want Ryan, but it might not be as clear cut as we think.
  11. I'm almost certain they will move at least one more reliever How will our relievers clear waivers? They are all so cheap and the market is insane for any reliever with a pulse. Especially a guy like Torres, who is pitching really well.
  12. I want to add that perhaps one of the reasons he was called up is that the Brewers simply wanted him out of Colorado Springs because it was affecting his hitting. Arcia has had minimal home/away splits in his career. But this year, he's hitting .307 at home and .227 on the road. I know that pitchers talk about how pitching in the thin air of Colorado can mess up their game. But it can sometimes do the same thing for hitters as well. Perhaps the club felt that Arcia would benefit from a better environment to continue his development. That's all just speculation on my part.
  13. Possibilities: - Cut Garza at some point. He's got probably 10 starts left in the season, and if he's still doing poorly at the end of August, just let him go. It allows us to add another person to the 40 man roster who deserves a look in the majors in September, such as Wren or Suter or whomever. If Garza has a great August you figure it out from there. But no one is going to want him, and I don't want him locking up a rotation spot for long. I'd rather have guys who have a potential future in Milwaukee getting those starts. - Explore trades for anyone who slips through waivers who has some modicum of value - Braun, Boyer, Torres, Nieuwenhuis. Trouble is that most of our guys (Garza is the exception) will get claimed. So we can only deal with that one team. Sure we can try, but in reality, those are tough deals. Best is if a guy get all the way through waivers, but as I said, I think most of these guys have some value and someone will claim each of them. Boyer and Nieuwenhuis are probably the most likely to get through waivers. If you can deal them for a lottery ticket, great. - Start looking for late season picks up - we got Guerra last year in September, if I recall correctly. - Just let the kids play and see who rises up to the top.
  14. It's ridiculous to have subpar (heck, even average) coaching and development staff. If there's a place to invest in for a club like Milwaukee, it's in helping identifying and getting the most out of the young players. I know money will always be an issue for Milwaukee, but I'd rather invest a couple of million dollars in good coaches and staff in the minors than spend it on a player like Capuano. This team will thrive and survive only if we can take advantage of the system - it's foolish to shortchange a part of it.
  15. I really enjoyed the article strictly for the title: Five things we learned Tuesday: Mike Matheny, still a bad tactical manager http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/72867/five-things-we-learned-tuesday-mike-matheny-still-a-bad-tactical-manager Then I read the article and watch the video of the Reds walking off against the Cardinals and life we good
  16. Brinson Powers Sky Sox To 7-3 Win Newest Sky Sox backs strong Suter start to lead Sky Sox past OKC By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox Colorado Springs Box Score What a debut for new Brewer prospect Lewis Brinson. Batting third in the lineup and playing CF, Brinson went 4-4, stole a base and scored three runs as the Sky Sox beat up the Oklahoma City Dodgers 7-3. Garrett Cooper and Garin Cechinni added two hits, with the latter getting an triple and an HR to go with three RBI. On the mound, Brent Suter was outstanding, limiting the Dodgers to no runs on six hits to pick up the win. He struck out six while walking no one. The Dodgers got close in the 8th, plating three runs to pull within one. But Cechinni hit his fourth HR in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach. Colorado Springs Game Log After struggling much of the season, Michael Reed has gotten his batting average over .250 (.253, to be exact). With his high walk total, his OBP is over .370 on the year.
  17. Make it 7 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 0 ER... 94 pitches. EDIT: And he is pulled for a PH in the 7th... What kind of a prospect is Suter? Strengths and style? Hard thrower or finesse? I think the crafty lefty might work. He doesn't throw hard at all, but I've read he's smart guy (went to Harvard), and knows how to pitch within himself.
  18. With regard to the question: I'm pretty confident that Stearns isn't going to keep Villar as our long time 3B if he can get a quality return for him. And I don't think a couple of months at 3B this year is going to hurt his value this off season. Everyone will know what he can do at SS - so if someone wants him for that gig, they'll know what he can do.
  19. rluzinski is back! Welcome back, Russ.
  20. Hernan Perez just keeps making plays. Hard to leave him out of the line up.
  21. Not so glowing report on Bickford from Eric Longenhagen at fangraphs. Kind of says that Bickford has been all over the board performance-wise in his career, so it's hard to know exactly what kind of guy he ultimately is going to be. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/scouting-phil-bickford-conundrum/
