  1. I think you'll see more of a platoon system with our catchers, splitting the catching duties instead of making one guy the 'starter'. That's okay. Catching is a tough gig, and keeping the guys fresh is important. Pina will get August to show off to the club, then Susac will probably come up in September. One of those two will likely be the guy to go with Maldy in 2017. A lot is really working with the young arms. I think that will be crucial. We know Maldy is trusted by the club, so I think he'll be around to provide some leadership and aid the kids as they get called up.
  2. Padilla was released in August 2014, having never advanced beyond the Dominican Summer League. Peguero retired in November of 2014, likewise never reaching stateside. Did the third kid - the 16 year old SS who might be destined for 2B - ever do anything of note?
  3. I never had an age limit for this list, so I won't start this time. I think it can be considered in the future, but for now, let's not worry about any such thing. As for expanding the Top 25, not at this time. We have started this one, and for several reasons, we will stick with 25. I've said several times before that expanding the number of guys is easy for some people, but if it's too big of a list, more casual voters might shy away (and have said so). My goal is participation. Also, the bigger the list, the more work it is on my part. We can talk about expanding in the future, but for this one, it's 25. Thanks.
  4. Gotta bring the guy up at some point. I'm very aware of control and Super 2 stuff, but if the club thinks he's ready, then go for it. The bad part - I'm planning on going to the game in Colorado Springs on Wednesday. Just missed Arcia.
  5. Man, Hernan has eaten his Wheaties this year. I like how he took on the challenge of making himself a better player. He took off 10-15 lbs and got faster, coupled with just getting stronger - results have been great for him. I just wish he could take some more walks. He's going to be so dependent on his batting average. That can be difficult. Even if he can get up to a 5% walk rate, it would really help. He's getting there, but it's a work in progress. Still, he's made himself a part of the future as long as he keeps hitting like he has of late.
  6. Team Effort Leads Sky Sox To 9-4 Win Sky Sox defeat Dodgers to win 16th of last 20 at home By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox Colorado Springs Box Score The Sky Sox hammered out 12 hits and scored nine runs in defeating the Oklahoma City Dodgers 9-4 on Monday night. Garrett Cooper broke out of a slump, notching three hits including his first HR at AAA. Michael Reed went 3-3 with a double, triple and a walk, while Garin Cecchini and Yadiel Rivera each had two hits, the latter driving in four runs. Aaron Wilkerson was solid on the mound as he got his first win with the franchise, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks in six innings. Colorado Springs Game Log Michael Reed has raised his batting average to .252 for the season. His 60 walks rank 3rd in the PCL.
  7. JosephC, thanks for kicking off the prospect poll. Appreciate it.
  8. Nice write up on Brinson and Ortiz at Fangraphs.com. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/scouting-lewis-brinson-and-luis-ortiz/ The author goes into depth about Brinson's struggles this year, which is interesting.
  9. Thornburg wouldn't get past the first team in waivers. He's good and he's cheap - no way he gets through. Generally the guys who get through either aren't very good or are expensive (often times both - Garza, we're looking at you). Braun would be an interesting case, but someone would likely take him. He's too good.
  10. I'd look at 2015 and you can see why he's so highly rated. Between A/AA, Brinson put up a 1.004 OPS. Now, a lot of that was at A+ High Desert, which is a hitter's paradise. Still, his .337 BA was 2nd in the league. He then went to AA for 110 ABs and put up an .873 OPS. He topped it off by going 13 of 30 in a short stint at AAA (.433 BA). All in all, he had 59 extra base hits on only 398 ABs - 20 HR, 31 doubles and 8 triples. Again, some of that can be attributed to the hitting environment at High Desert - but he still produced at every step. You're talking about a guy with oodles of talent, but very raw. He's had some hamstring issues this year as well as a strained shoulder, so that's probably contributed to this year's struggles. He's a guy that's been nicked up a lot, so it's something to watch.
  11. For me, the main thing is that the deal is done and we can move forward with building a winning franchise. I'm sure many feel like we should have gotten more, but what we got is what we got - nothing we can do to change that. The three new guys we got today represent a big infusion of higher upside talent. I like that a lot. All three of the guys we gave up are very good players, and I wish them luck, but they just aren't what we need at this moment. I'm looking forward to seeing the young guys develop, and hopefully be big parts of the Brewers future.
  12. No, it can't be a first year kid. The new rules simply say that a PTBNL must be eligible to be traded at the time of the deal. Since all first year players are ineligible to be traded until after the World Series, they cannot be a PTBNL. 1st year players can be traded after the World Series - but that has to be a brand new trade. It can't be related to any trade that happened earlier in the year.
  13. Please come over to the minor league forum and participate in the 2016 Top 25 Mid-Season Poll. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=34367
  14. I'm betting Suter as well. He's done a good job - let's reward him for his nice work.
  15. If I am correct, a PTBNL must be eligible to be traded when the actual trade takes place. Since 2016 draft picks are ineligible to be traded now, they cannot be the person designated as the PTBNL.
  16. Thank you Thank you Thank you, what do I win? Several more loses at the major league level for Milwaukee!!! Congratulations!
  17. Voting is now open. Please post your Top 25. Feel free to ask questions if you have them.
  18. I agree both guys have risk. Ortiz just looks really large, especially for someone so young. Brinson was pretty awesome last year, so let's hope something clicks when he joins Milwaukee.
  19. Yeah, this is pretty much my reaction. Two very good looking guys. I know Brinson has struggled repeating AAA this year. But he did great at AA last year (110 ABs). He's had two DL stints, so there might be some reasoning behind his less than stellar season. Still #30 on BA's midseason list.
  20. JJ has been traded. Go here to discuss: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=34401
  21. Lewis Brinson and Luis Ortiz to Milwaukee.
  22. Name a professional baseball player who's last name is a palindrome. Robb Nen Nice. But Harrah is a six letter name. Much harder to do than three or four letter words. Still, well done.
  23. Name a professional baseball player who's last name is a palindrome.
  24. Mets sent Dilson Herrera to Reds reworking the Bruce trade.
  25. Just a good deal. Didn't think Smith would land this high of a guy, but I'm not arguing about that. Susac is a nice add on. If he fails, no biggie, but he can get things together, he could make a nice tandem with Maldy.
