  1. My 2 cents on Walsh: he was an interesting player to take a risk on. It just didn't work out. He's not ready for major league pitching - maybe will never be. But we tried something - it's what we should be doing now. Walsh also became redundant (I think) with Perez playing well this year - plus Nate Orf has similar skills. Walsh switch hit, but that was his only real advantage. And his glove was mediocre at best. The team has better options going forward, and he's just taking up a roster spot. No point in that. Like I said, no real harm. We took a flyer on a guy. Just didn't work out.
  2. With fourth pick in the 1st round, the Colorado Rockies take outfielder Mickey Moniak, of La Costa Canyon High School in California. Moniak grabbed 2/3 of the votes - Riley Pint getting the others. This put the Milwaukee Brewers on the clock!!! You have until the end of the day on Wednesday, June 1, to make your selection. Get your vote in now!
  3. Rockies take Moniak with the the 4th pick.
  4. With the 3rd pick in the draft, the Atlanta Braves take Jason Groome, LHP, Barnegat HS (NJ). The Colorado Rockies are on the clock. Please make your pick by EOD on Tuesday, May 31. Thanks
  5. With 3rd pick in the 2016 draft, the Atlanta Braves select Jason Groome, LHP, Barnegat HS (NJ)
  6. New BA mock: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-draft-4-0/#IbMdY0E0cDJO8tH5.97 Brewers taking Pint.
  7. I think things are going to get interesting now.
  8. With the 2nd pick of Round 1 of the 2015 draft, the Cincinatti Reds select OF Kyle Lewis of Mercer. The Braves are now on the clock. Please make your selection by Saturday, May 28 (we are giving two days for this pick, since we're avoiding doing picks on the weekend - we'll close the picks for the Braves on by EOD on Saturday, then open up for the #4 pick with the Rockies on Sunday. That pick will go through Tuesday, May 31, so we have a full weekday to make the selection. We aren't counting Monday - which is Memorial Day - as a weekday for this exercise). Lewis got 10 votes, Senzel got 7. Pretty close. Perez and Ray also got a vote on this pick. Thanks again to everyone for voting. Keep playing along.
  9. Capps is pretty bad. As noted, he's been walking way too many guys and giving up too many dingers.
  10. AJ Puk is selected by the Philadelphia PHillies with the 1st pick in the 2016 amateur draft. Cincinnati is on the board. Please start posting your selections. You have until EOD on Thursday, 5/26, to make a selection for the Reds. Puk handily won the top slot, nabbing 15 or so votes, compared to 4 for Lewis and Perez. Groome and Moniak each also got a vote.
  11. Mets minor league pitching isn't very good. Their top guy on the MLB pipeline is Marcos Molina - ranked #8 for the Mets. I liked the guy - until he had TJ surgery this past off season. Their top pitchers (Matz, Syndergaard) have graduated to the majors in the last year or so. Unless Milwaukee is still interested in Wheeler, I don't see a fit unless you can get a third team involved.
  12. Gotta love Freeman running out his hit slower than my 80+ year old mom.
  13. If Puk is available at #5, would you take him? It's interesting that a lot of people (both on our draft thread and in the media) are looking at Puk as the top pick. But it doesn't seem like a lot of people here are talking about him. Just curious what people think.
  14. Welcome, Gonzo75. Glad to have you aboard.
  15. Very happy to see so many votes already. Keep them coming. Thanks for playing along. I wasn't sure I'd get enough people interested in this thing.
  16. I don't think the strike zone change will lead to quicker games, but I think it will lead to more offense. That's because it will force pitchers to throw pitches into a batter's wheelhouse. If batters don't have to worry about swinging at that low ball, they can get more pitches drive. Those bottom two inches are a crappy spot to hit a ball. Swings aren't level, guys flail at pitches down that low. It's swing and miss or weak grounders. If a batter has two less inches of territory to cover, that should make them a better hitter. Of course (I said this before), pitchers will have to adjust. If they don't throw strikes, batters will just take more walks. But I don't think that will happen. Batters want to swing. They just don't want to swing at crappy pitches. By bumping up the zone a couple of inches, I'm betting we see more offense as hitters have less plate to cover. Just my opinion.
  17. Please note that our Community Top 10 draft is now underway. viewforum.php?f=69 You have until the EOD on Wednesday, May 25, to make your selection for the #1 in the draft.
  18. The votes are coming in for the #1 pick. Please make yours now. Please be specific in voting - like our first few voters. Such as: "AJ Puk at 1.1." Or "I select Lewis at #1" We'll continue to take votes for the top pick through May 25 (Wednesday). I'll tally up the votes either really late on Wednesday, or early on Thursday. Then we'll start taking votes for #2 pick. I will wait to vote until the very end each day. If there is a tie, I'll put in my vote at that point to break any tie. Thank you everyone for participating.
  19. Yep, if people want to start voting for the #1 pick, go for it. Having that a day or two early is fine. Just make sure you update it if something happens that might change your opinion.
