  1. I imagine that when word gets out that Milwaukee and Seattle is close to a deal - that's when any other teams serious about Lind will really come forward and talk seriously. Everyone wants a bargain. They'll try and lowball Milwaukee for Lind, then when push comes to shove, they'll have to either step up or lose the guy. While Seattle sounds like a close thing, perhaps other teams will get into the game now that things are serious. Hopefully, that will improve the return we get on Adam.
  2. I think that until he proves he can't play 3B, he stays there. Unless, of course, you get another 3B.
  3. At this point, I don't think Peterson is not a Top 10 prospect for Milwaukee. Close - maybe 8-9. But I think you're right - the 10-15 range. He was bad last year at AA (.636 OPS). He did okay in 2014 at AA - .808 OPS on 222 ABs - but you can't dismiss his struggles this year. I guess I'd compare Peterson to Tyrone Taylor. Both were Top 100 prospects (Peterson was as high as 50 on some charts), but both struggled at AA and the luster really went off both of them. Peterson at least looked okay in 2014, so there's hope he can rebound to that kind of production. I guess it comes down to the Brewer scouts seeing a guy that can be 'fixed' as opposed to a guy who just doesn't have the ability to be better.
  4. I don't think one year of Lind won't get you Kepler. Plus, Minnesota doesn't have the need after signing the guy from Korea (I can't recall his name).
  5. I didn't realize this, but Inciarte had a higher WAR than Miller last year. And in 2014. Inciarte gets a ton of his value in his defense, which is Gold Glove level. He actually looks like a younger Gerardo Parra - good defense, hits lefties really well - struggles against righties. It seems like Arizona should have unloaded Yasmany Tomas instead. Dbacks get Miller for three years. Braves get Inciarte for five years. Plus a Top 100 pitcher in Blair. Plus the #1 pick in the draft, who is probably in the top 20 prospects in all of baseball. The more I look at this, the more the Braves made out like bandits. This is the kind of haul I dream about getting for Lucroy.
  6. Don't be suprised if Baez is traded as well. Zobrist slides in at 2B full time. Tampa was talking to the Cubs about Baez for pitching - so that might still be coming.
  7. I think this is a great trade for Atlanta. Swanson is a Top 10-20 prospect at a key defensive position. Top pick in the draft - lots of potential. College guy who should move quickly. Miller is a good pitcher, but Atlanta is playing for 2018, and getting high upside guys like Swanson is what they need to do.
  8. Orioles Pirates Tampa Cleveland St. Louis Houston White Sox Twins (may have before signing the guy from Korea) Seattle Angels That's 10. Perhaps I'm missing a team or two. And maybe a couple of teams that don't need him checked in because they were entertaining dealing their current DH or 1B. Just a thought.
  9. Four years is kind of crazy, but Zobrist is a nice fit in their line up. He's a patient hitter who will geton base. Cubs need that. Defensive metrics were down last year on Zobrist. In the past, he has garnered a lot of value from his defense, so if that falters in the field (which wouldn't be a surprise for a guy in his mid-30s), he might have trouble earning his paycheck. But good for Zobrist. I like the guy - plays hard, does a lot of the little things well.
  10. Zunino is a classic example of a guy who was rushed. I'm not saying we get him, but the guy only got 106 games in the minors. He actually showed a decent eye at the plate his first through AA. He took his walks and didn't strike out that much. Then he fell apart at AAA (.227 BA, 66K on 203 ABs) after only 15 games at AA. Despite his struggle, he was rushed to the majors. He struggled, but he did hit 22 HR at age 23 - but by this time all semblance of plate discipline was gone. 17 walks on 476 plate appearances (and over 150 strike outs). He was worse last year. It looks like the Mariners blew this one. I'm not saying Zunino would have been good, but they saw his mediocre results at AAA - and then the majors. They should have let him take a step back and refine his game some more before just letting him sink the last two years. Catchers often develop later than other players, so you never know with a guy like this. He was the 3rd pick in the draft for a reason.
  11. SD sent $7.5M to St Louis as part of the deal.
  12. Salary dump by SD. Gyorko is still owed $33M. Jay is due less than $7M and then is a FA. Gyorko figures to be more of a utility guy (assuming Wong and Carpenter aren't dealt). Wong struggles against lefties, so I imagine Gyorko will get some PT there. He can back up 3B and SS as well. A lot of money for a utility guy, so maybe another deal is coming.
  13. Peterson was awful last year, but he looked great in 2014 between A/AA (playing in the Cally League really boosted his numbers). He's a below average fielder and strikes out a lot. Right handed. I guess it all comes down to which player Milwaukee sees - the 2014 or the 2015 version.
  14. Mariners have a bad system. Outside of Alex Jackson, none of their prospects are Top 100 types. They might have some lower level guys that could develop, but it's pretty scant from my view.
  15. I think Holmes is going to great. I hate that we'll have to face the guy down the road if he's part of the deal.
  16. This is correct. Catchers dealt over the past five years or so were mostly just salary dumps or back up types. The reason is that most teams are reluctant to incorporate a primary catcher with their staff mid-season. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but it just doesn't happen that often.
  17. Wow. Dbacks making waves. Interesting.
  18. It's called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. We can't help ourselves.
  19. Cecchini looks a lot like a guy who needs a change of scenery. Two years ago it was said he got away from his game and tried to hit for more power. I don't know if he just lost it last year, but getting away from the Boston system might be the best thing for him. The guy could hit up through 2013. Took a lot of walks. He had a .404 OBP at AA in 2013 - not a lot of guys do that. If the club thinks he can be rescued, I'd totally give the guy a flyer. Just know that he might not hit for much power - maybe 8-10 HR. But he could hit for a decent average and get on base. Cecchini is not supposed to be much of a fielder. Average at best. Boston moved him around a lot - 1B, 2B, OF - to try and get him some ABs. But I'd just put him at 3B and say play your game. Get back to how you hit prior to 2014, and work on your defense as much as possible. If things fail, we just move on.
  20. The more I see about Lamb, the more I like him. He's struggled against lefties thus far in the majors (hitting on .179 on 67 ABs). But that's a pretty small sample. In the minors, he's generally hit lefties pretty well. And as I said above, I love the good reports on his glove. I think we ignore defense too much. As for Peralta for Lamb -- it's tough, but I'd probably do it. I like Wily, but I don't love the guy. Still, I'd have to feel really good about Lamb to give up Peralta if I was the Crew.
  21. Well, if true, Arizona has some decent young arms - Shipley, Bradley, Blair. But you would think they would want to keep those players. 3B Jake Lamb has five years of control left - he looks pretty solid. Not a big power guy (maybe 10-15 HR), but exceptional glove, decent OB kind of guy. But then AZ would have to play Tomas at 3B - not sure they want that. I'd really love the idea of a really good infield - Arcia and Lamb would be a great starting point.
  22. Having a large budget is awesome. But you still have to make smart investments. If you're going to drop $100M or $200M, do it on the right guy(s). Who thought Sandoval and Ramirez were wise investments last year? I don't think anyone thought these were good moves. You make dumb moves, you quickly eat up the $50M or $100M advantage your team has.
  23. No on Middlebrooks. Below average defender, can't hit for average, doesn't walk much, a modicum of power. He simply is a bad player, and I don't want anyone being tempted to think he's anything more than that and giving him playing time. He's had his chances (several of them) and failed. Time to give others a try.
