  1. For what exactly? They had a source that said Braun failed a test. He had a positive sample which would indicate a failed test. What did they do wrong? That's exactly what Buster Olney is saying. The story was correct. He tested positive. No dispute there. I actually don't blame ESPN in this instance - but whomever gave them the story. That was a breech of the system that screwed over Braun. And now it's screwing over MLB, because it's calling into question their processes.
  2. It sounds like the 'collectors' had done this before - taken packages home with them when they couldn't get them to FedEx. Sort of bizarre - the 'best' system in world relying on something like this. As I said before, I wish MLB had said they stand by their system, but they'll learn from it, and make the process better so this sort of dispute doesn't occur again.
  3. From ESPN: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7608360/ryan-braun-wins-appeal-50-game-suspension That MLB is 'considering options' is annoying.
  4. You nailed it Fear. To leave a sample unattended for two days is ridiculous. It's huge. No one knows what can happen in those two days. Sadly, Braunie will always be a PEDs guy to some people. I just hope he responds with a monster year, just to show the doubters how good he is.
  5. Nice statement by Braun. A lot of people think he's cocky and arrogant - but it's a respectful and measured response to a situation that will, undoubtedly, cost him millions of dollars over the course of his career. Well done, Ryan. Look forward to a monster 2012.
  6. I'm disappointed in MLB's response. I wish they would have just said, "We disagree with the results. We fully back the testing process. But we are going to learn from the situation and make things better so that a situation like this does not happen again." Instead they are acting like Braun is guilty, which sucks.
  7. Tejada is awful. His ability to play SS is really limited. Renteria would be better. At least he can still handle the position adequately (at least from what I saw of him the last year or two. I'm not sold on Izturis. His bat has been so bad that last few years. I think Renteria would be better.
  8. He did? Do you have a link to that information? I myself would have been fine with Renteria off the bench.. Here you go - from McCalvy: http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/2012/02/22/brewers-made-run-at-renteria/
  9. An .800 OPS by Gamel would be fabulous. Sure I want more, but if Mat can come out as a solid, everyday player in his first year, that would be a huge boast for the Brewers. Nice to hear he's in shape and sounds hungry.
  10. Hang on to Hart (and Weeks) as they hit 25+ HR a year for the rest of their contracts. Enjoy it. They are both pretty good players - at times exceptional. They have both committed to the team by signing extensions in the past, and I like the idea of staying committed to them. To replace them with anyone in our system in the next 1-2 years will result in a major drop off. The players we are discussing are not sure fire talents. This is not like having Prince behind Overbay. Or even Escobar behind Hardy. I'm not saying Gindl or Scooter can't become quality starters - but to peg them as guys who'll come close to replacing the talent of a Hart or Weeks is wildly optimistic. At some point someone will have to replace Rickie and Corey - but why push those dates up when the options for filling their shoes aren't good?
  11. Awesome video of Gary Carter's final at bat. Really emotional. You wish all players could have such good send offs. http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-gary-carters-emotional-final-at-bat-20120217,0,3583474.story
  12. I noticed the same thing. I had something like 1500 posts and now I'm less than a 1000. I also noticed a recent post I had done was missing. I assume in the transition to the new forum this happened. I don't really care about the post numbers or whatever, but something did happen.
  13. http://espn.go.com/new-york/story/_/id/7583404/fans-mourn-hall-famer-gary-carter Carter has died. Age 57.
  14. One thing nice about sports for advertisers is that it's as close to DVR-proof as you can get. Advertisers know that the majority of people watching a sporting event will watch it live. Thus they can't skip the commercials. This will only grow as more and more people add DVR capability to the TVs, plus things like Netflix and other types of streaming and downloads. This will make all MLB teams games more and more valuable.
  15. Jim Breen has shut down Bernie's Crew over on the Journal Sentinel website. He's moved to Disciples of Uecker - http://disciplesofuecker.com/ - and brought with him several of the Bernie's Crew writers. It's a pretty nice group of writers for them now.
  16. Patrick, I just bought a treadmill a month ago. I went through the research and talked to folks. The Nordic Tracks are all pretty well received - my mom has one she bought a year ago and is happy. Paid about $1000 at Sears. She's just a walker. I ended up with this one: http://www.dickssportingg...=4406646.4413986.4417717 It's the Livestrong line. We've had it a month and been very happy with it. It was really easy to put together as well (but really heavy, so beware). My wife and I both walk, my son is a runner. We all use it. It is only a month, but I'm pretty happy with it. It costs about $900, but I got it for $800 right after christmas. I really liked this site for overviews on products: http://www.treadmilladviser.com/index.html Lots of details on the site - far more than most. Then when i found a few that I liked, I then went and looked them up on Amazon and places like that. Good luck.
  17. I think the original Greedo doesn't even shoot. I think Han just wastes him. It was awesome. I wish I had my original VHS copy - from the 80s.
  18. I didn't think it was anti-braun. I think it was more about the ramifications of the decision - either way.
  19. Well, that bodes well for Milwaukee. SD is around 28th in market size, while Milwaukee is 33rd. Now, size aside, not all markets are equal. Advertisers look at a lot of factors, including income, education, etc. I would imagine (but I'm not positive) that Milwaukee isn't particularly attractive. But no matter, it would be nice to get some serious dollars from the next contract.
  20. latest on greinke in an interview with Melvin: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/138959944.html Memolo: “From where I’m sitting I’m not sure how you’re going to handle Zack Greinke, considering what you gave up in that trade. How are you going to handle that? What’s your priority with Zack Greinke right now?â€
  21. A lot people outside of Miwaukee seem to think without Fielder - and Braun - we'll be lost. But I disagree. I think the offense can be nearly as good. C - Lucroy/Kottars - 20 HR 1B - Gamel - 15-20 HR 2B - Week - 25 HR SS - Gonzalez - 15 HR 3B - A-Ram - 25 HR LF - Braun - 30-35 HR (if not suspended) CF - Morgan/Gomez - 10 HR RF - Hart - 25-30 HR That's 165 - 180 HR - and without anything from all the back ups. We lead the league last year in HRs with 185. Maybe we won't hit quite that many this year, but we can be close. Plus we add in a little better defense. And a first rate pitching staff. This team will do just fine. Even if Braun is gone for 50 games, we lose 10-12 HR from him, but we are going to be in the mix. The pitching staff is good and can get better. Greinke, Gallardo, Narvy and Marcum are all in their prime years. Hart, Braun, Weeks, Morgan, Gomez are all in their prime. Lucroy can get better. Gonzalez and A-Ram are older - but we're not talking late 30s here. Some regression is certainly possible, but they should be fine. We should have a better bench. Gamel is a wild card, but it's not like he's required to carry the team. We can be patient and he'll pan out. It will all come down to injuries.
