  1. The best trade help both teams. I hope this is one of those. I think our serious lack of starting pitching made this and the Greinke trade essential if we want to win a championship. And that's the goal. This year and next should be exciting for the Crew. Even with Prince leaving, I think we can be very good in 2012. Beyond 2012, who knows. So much can happen. Maybe we'll need to rebuild. Maybe not. We'll see. Every deal is a risk. But not making deals is also a risk as well. I'm just enjoying winning now. I hope Lawrie and marcum both continue to do well. Same with Lorenzo Cain, Escobar and the others.
  2. I don't mean to hijack the topic, so I won't go on after this, but I don't buy the argument that Green is a PTBNL or not in the organization's plans. If fact, I think it's just the opposite. Haudricourt said in his recent chat that Green was definitely NOT on the PTBNL list for the Mets.
  3. The new 'Pujols Rules' have been instituted to help protect the keeper of baseball's etiquette and unwritten rules: http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/reillymcshane/pujols.jpg
  4. Maybe the Cards of afraid of losing Molina for the Brewer's series. LaRussa has gotten obsessed about the Crew. If Molina appealed the suspension it might have taken a few days for the appeal to play out (I'm not sure how quickly they usually get to appeals). But if that happened - let's say the commish's office came down with a suspension (say 3 or 4 games) this weekend - then Molina could miss all of the Brewers' series. This way he only misses one game against us. The Cards can live without him for the Marlins series. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. But TLR seems to get obsessive about teams that are challenging him.
  5. If Casey can OPS out at .750 the rest of the season, we are good. It's a massive improvement over the first 1/2 of the year. Personally, I think the team should have sent him to the minors a long time ago to find his swing, but whatever. If he's back, awesome. A revived Casey would be really welcome, especially with Rickie out of action.
  6. Dillard's around in case they need someone to pinch hit for Craig Counsel.
  7. Don't know if anyone noted this, but in Haudricourt's recent chat - http://www.jsonline.com/s...s/brewers/126460963.html - he specifically said that Green in not on the list of players. Said they were were 'medium prospects at best'.
  8. Awesome. Ray's only 37. I think if he had kept himself in better shape he might still be playing.
  9. I've always hated the Cardinals more than the Cubs. They just come off as sanctimonious d-bags. When the Cubs were in the playoffs a few years ago, I was happy for my Cub-loving friends (no matter how misguided they are). I wanted them to take out the Dodgers. Sure it was amusing when they got swept, but I would have been happy for them to have won. The Cardinals? Maybe if it was them against the Yankees in the playoffs - then I'd want them to win. But otherwise, it's anyone but LaRussa and his team. There is, no doubt, some envy in my hatred of the Cards. I think LaRussa is a very good manager. The team is usually competitive, despite not having the highest of payrolls. But the whole attitude the team exudes makes you want to just hand them a big ole cup of 'get over yourselves'. Brandon Phillips was right. Last year he said what so many people in baseball (especially Cincy, Milwaukee, Chicago) were thinking. I think it woke up a lot of people to the Cardinals attitude. So now, when LaRussa whines, it's not ignored by the press or fans. Instead they stop and think about it. They say, 'Hmmm, you know, Phillips is right. LaRussa is whining again.' I think Phillips outburst against the Cards really has helped. I look at what's happened the last few days, and no one is defending LaRussa (at least outside of St. Louis). They are mocking him, or even downright slamming him, for his stupid comments. I love it. And I still hate the Cards.
  10. Am I crazy, or do the Brewers give up more infield singles than any team in history?
  11. Here's somone video taping the message. hard to hear, however.
  12. i always remembered it as the two fisted slopper - drunk guy with beer flying out of his glasses. a two fisted slobber just doesn't make sense.
  13. Well, the Mets got a highly regarded player. Good for them. I wasn't sure anyone would part with a top flight guy. They are reportedly kicking in $4 million of Beltran's remaining $6 million salary.
  14. http://msn.foxsports.com/...de-deadline-072711
  15. Nice write up by Sickels. I like it that we might have a true, solid SP prospect available in 2012 (when Wolf, Greinke and Marcum are all FAs). While I imagine the Brewers will work to sign at least one or two of that group, it would be nice if Peralta continues to progress. I don't mind him at AAA next year, having him ready if there's an injury. But come 2012, it would be cool if he was ready to take spot at the back of the rotation - at least to start.
  16. i was thinking about this too. man, williams must cringe at giving up Hudson.
  17. For this year, I believe the Cards will use John Jay in CF. He was sitting behind Berkman and Holiday.
  18. Rameriz would be awesome. But I don't see ChiSox dealing him. They can build around him (after blowing up the other guys). He fields very well, hits well (not great OBP, but decent average and power for the position). He should put up a WAR of 4.0+ for the second straight year. That's a guy I'd take in a heartbeat. I doubt the Sox would be giving him away.
  19. If you are looking at long term SS help (beyond 2011), then it should be noted that Barmes, Furcal and Carrol are free agents after 2011. That would make a guy like Brendan Ryan ideal. None of the three free agents to be are Type A or Type B free agents. Carrol is the closest. Only a few players are ahead of him, and several are playing badly or not at all (Casey Blake, for example). The upside for Carrol would be if he qualified as a Type B free agent. The Brewers could offer arby, if he takes it, you have a great utility guy to replace Counsel. If he doesn't, you get the sandwich pick. I don't know how hard it is to shift rankings, but as I said, there are several players playing poorly or not at all ahead of him. Ryan would be great because even at his worst (2010), he still was productive (1.4 WAR). His defense is very good. Assuming we lose Prince, a new 1B (Gamel?) and a new 3B (Green? or does Casey rebound) would provide a much better longterm defense. In the end, no matter what is done, we still will need a SS for 2012. If we don't get one this year, there are some free agents, like Barmes, we could go after.
  20. I was thinking a Franklin Stubbs signing was in the works.
  21. Briggs, nice idea about milledge. I'd forgotten about him. My big concern would be his ability to play CF. If I remember correctly, he was pretty bad.
  22. I hope we don't lose Green in any trade. We need alternatives for 2012 at 3B, and there's no one in the minors that really fits that bill. Next season the Brewers should be installing Gamel at 1st base (I'm going on the assumption that Fielder is gone) and Green and McGehee would fight it out for 3rd base. We have to, at some point, give our young players a chance. There may be some struggles, but in the end, if we could get league-average play from both positions, we'd being doing great. And if we could fill those slots with lower paid guys, all the better so that we can spend money elsewhere. Perhaps the brewers believe Green is simply not an everyday player. Or even a platoon guy. I can understand that. It's their job to project a player's future and plan accordingly. But if you deal Green, what's the plan for 2012 if McGehee continues to stink? PS - one other positive to Green is that he's lefthanded. Adding him into the lineup in 2012, along with Gamel and Morgan, would give us, potentially, the most decent lefthanded bats in years. Of course, Morgan would need a platoon partner. Maybe even Green.
  23. Johnson isn't much of a CFer, probably a bit below average at this point, but he's far better than Kotsay. He would suffice as Gomez's stand in against lefties for the rest of the year - if healthy. I believe he's had some injuries.
  24. Barmes would be great. Just get him and stick him in there full time. Lose Yuni. I'd say you lose Counsel as well, but getting a guy like Barmes would be a solid move. I'd be happy enough with that.
